Same river... three weeks different... - 04/30/11 12:28 PM
About three weeks (maybe two weeks) ago I took the top photo showcasing the "flooding" that happens in Minnesota in the spring. There is a good portion of the flooding that is expected so the top photo isn't anything spectacular except that I LOVE water. Yesterday I drove past the same river on my way past a house and was surprised at how quickly the water has receded. The zoom on the bottom is a bit different from the top so the tree line doesn't match up right, but it IS the same river... same side of the bridge. The

Spring cleanup goes beyond the barns... - 04/30/11 10:47 AM
No matter where you live (country or city) you have probably noticed that Minnesota can be pretty ugly in the spring. Dead foliage sticking out everywhere and branches fallen from the winter snow. Cleanup definitely goes beyond the barns this time of year. The gardens need turning, the sidewalks and driveways need sweeping and leftover salt removal. The windows need washing (at least at our house). The grass needs raking from all the leftover leaves falling through the winter and then a good cut to clean up the scraggly edges. Trees may need pruning if it wasn't done during the wintertime.

When, oh when, will the bank feel like giving us neighbors? - 04/29/11 07:38 PM
Okay, so I understand that it's a "good" thing when the bank gives a person a few extra months before foreclosing on a property. Unfortunately, I have seen the process move VERY quickly for some that were 'trying' to work with the system and very slow for some who would prefer the foreclosure be done and over with.It is very evident in my backyard. We moved in seven years ago. Jeesh that seems like a long time ago. Anyways, right at the top of the market starting to turn around we bought into our property. We have been generally happy here,

A little color on a wordless Wednesday! - 04/27/11 11:34 PM
If you've ever seen Finding Nemo you'll know why my boys were excited to see this tank today. These jellyfish did exactly as they were hired to do - they amazed us. There's nothing like a little site-seeing in Minnesota (one of the top ten summer vacation spots according to National Geographics)... This photo came directly from our day at Sea Life Aquarium in the Mall of America.

And, a HOPPY holiday to you.... - 04/23/11 09:23 AM
As we go into Easter weekend we take the time reflect where we came from... where we are... and where we are going. We have spent endless hours reading Easter books from hopping bunnies to frogs that wish they were the Easter bunny to the true Easter story. The kids struggle deeply with the idea of taking Jesus to the cross and being so cruel to any person so we mix the fun into the holiday to celebrate the beauty of the gift and legacy that He left behind. At some point today I need to pack the Easter eggs

Go ladybug Go.... (wordless wednesday!) - 04/12/11 11:20 PM
Spring has sprung in Minnesota and April is the best time to dig out the kites.... The kids love it... adults love it... and it's that season after winter and before summer that provides the greatest wind speed for catching some air. This year is no exception. With weather hitting the 70's today and parks nice and dry it's perfect for some fun! We like Lion's Park for flying kites because of the wide open spaces. It's great fun!

Are you hangin' by a thread? - 04/12/11 11:09 PM
Are you hanging on with all your might? Hoping that everything will 'suddenly' change so and become easier to manage? Are you wishing things were different? Holding out hope that you won't sink below the surface? Maybe gripping so hard that your fingers hurt, but fearful to fall because you don't know how far you'll fall? I can tell you that you are not alone. In the past year there were over 2 million properties in the United States that touched the foreclosure process in some frame or fashion. Minnesota came high on that list.... and 2011 may not look any

Raising your hand to the public libraries.... (a great way to pay it forward) - 04/09/11 12:13 PM
If you've visited the Elk River branch of the library system lately you'd know that they are taking a 'furlough' day on April 12th. The reason? Money is tight. Like every business and organization right now - the libraries are suffering too. Before the end of the year they will be taking two more.... that is three unpaid days off for all employees... That's why this year is especially important to support the organization through their high "5" program! For just $5 you can support your library and give them the resources to keep their doors open another year. I have done

Playing... in Elk River - 04/09/11 09:57 AM
It's an honest goal really. Playing. Elk River has more than 40 parks and recreation spots that they offer the citizens at no cost... and this year we aim to play in every one. It's for the adventure really. The boys love it and so do I...From picnics to quick stops on our way through a neighborhood we are journeying through the 'sweet' spots that Elk River has to offer. We love this time of year with the weather warming the earth and the sun shining so bright. It's hard to stay indoors and accomplish anything when the outside is beckoning
