Sometimes you can't go it alone... - 04/29/12 08:16 PM
If you've ever climbed a hill that is taller than you are you know that having a boost is a really good thing. Why climbing this particular hill was so important I'm not sure, but it seemed to be. The boys really just wanted to see what was on the other side - so why would I argue, right? Buying a house can be much like this. It sure seems like the process should be easy, but having someone 'have your back' just makes it so much easier. That's what we are here for. We are here to walk you through

Nature's Fort - 04/29/12 06:41 AM
We were hiking through the woods the other day, and like oftentimes, we came to one of nature's great forts. It's one of those spots that you want to take and explore and enjoy. In this case it was a few fallen trees leaning against one another... making a perfect play spot. In other cases it could be fallen logs, weeping willows, a giant pine with crawl space qualities. Recently in our house we've been talking, dreaming, planning and on the lookout for great tree house ideas. The kiddos have figured out that climbing is loads of fun and want a

Don't forget to take a minute... and breathe. - 04/24/12 08:43 PM
If you live in Minnesota, you know that today was absolutely gorgeous! Nearly 80 degrees and full of sunshine. It's one of those spring days that causes wiggles in the schoolroom and ansy pants at the work place. We decided this afternoon to head out to the park and for good reason. Toting our journals, camera and bag full of picnic fun... we took off on the trails. The kids full of squiggles and giggles certainly made for an entertaining trip. We have photos of supermen on fallen logs, teeny tiny forest floor flowers, and drawn pictures of the raging river

Chick is 24.... hours old that is.... - 04/19/12 05:20 PM
Today we celebrated Chick's birth with a celebratory move from the incubator to his new bedroom in "the box".... Empowered with a 60watt light bulb, a jar lid full of food and a half inch of water little Chick will likely double his size in about two days. It's hard to NOT sit and watch the growth because it's so fascinating to see what he is discovering in his own little space. Because Little Chick fits perfectly in the size of an adult hand (though he makes enough noise for the size of an elephant) it's really fun for hands big

12 hours old... Country Living at it's best... - 04/18/12 05:48 PM
If you've missed my first two posts on my chicky... you might want to back up for a few minutes. This is my hatchling at around 12 hours old. Just a little tyke yet, but stretched out enough that I wonder how he/she ever fit in the shell in the first place. A master of his/her domain in the incubator this little one is trying desperately to explore the 'big beyond.' Full of personality my little chick comes right up the the window when I pass by. It's everything in me to keep my hands out of the incubator and

Country Living is the best followup... - 04/18/12 07:12 AM
If you read my post yesterday you know that I'm over the moon excited about our newest endeavor. Twenty-one days into the process and the pipping started. Personally, I cannot imagine living in a shell for near a month and then having to crack my own way out, but..... this is about nature and it is what chicks do. Starting sometime yesterday afternoon little cracks appeared on his shell (not sure it's a boy) and the peeping began. Yes, I did say peeping. All night we watched and waited and waited and watched, but nothing truly happened before bedtime. It was

Country living is the best... - 04/17/12 09:50 PM
Okay, so I know I'm really really biased. But I DO love country living... minus the snakes. We are as close to having a farm as you can get without having a farm in so many ways and I wouldn't change it for the world. Little duckies went to live in their new pen outside tonight (so I'm hoping that they don't get toooooo cold). And, we are ready to embark on our next adventure.Seven hens, one rooster, a bunny, Kitty Kat, two ducklings and now an egg that is ready to hatch! I incubated seven but I hear one singing.

Just Ducky... - 04/15/12 07:24 AM
I have a serious post coming about these little ducklings, but for now, it's reality. We brought these baby ducklings home last Monday.... six days ago..... and I swear they've grown three inches and the biggest vocal chords since coming to our home!Okay, so maybe it's only an inch, but they are growing like weeds. I can hear them drinking and eating from the other end of the house and they chow! It's like my boys in so many ways. Last night was no exception... except that they 'usually' sleep through the night like we do. Apparently their tummies were keeping

Just another sign of spring... - 04/14/12 08:19 AM
For the last many years I have been able to benchmark spring with the billowing days of smoke clouds in the north. This year the smoke has billowed twice. With the lack of rain and the high 'chance' of forest fire I'm a bit surprised that they are burning off the refuge this year.... but they are. Driving down the road and watching the clouds billow from the north to the west is quite amazing. It always makes me wanna drive up thatta way and take a closer look-see. Chances are good that if you live in Sherburne County or are

Be there or be square... a Minnesota meetup! - 04/11/12 06:41 PM
Okay, so maybe it isn't gonna be exotic... or even truly R&R... but this Active Rain meetup will certainly include some laughs, some good times and a lot of encouragement. Our north metro area of Minnesota has attracted a few great bloggers on the "Rain" and we have decided it's time to round up for a couple of hours and hang out.Soooooooooooo..... on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 we are having a party Active Rain style at Rockwoods in Otsego from 6-8pm (or later if the chats are running long). Thanks so much to Michael Bolten for initiating the event!!!! If

Going on a limb here.... - 04/11/12 06:39 PM
We live in this great little town called Elk River, Minnesota. The home of Lake Orono (swimmable or not) and some smaller ponds like Twin Lakes (in neighboring Nowthen). The home of 44 parks with a great system and activity roster that satisfies the needs of seniors and children.... but not much in between. So, the question asked? What's there to do for the middle people. Those guys that go to work all day and come home and want to enjoy a little close to home entertainment. Hmmmmmm...... If you don't like parks and you don't like fast food and the

When things go awry... - 04/06/12 08:53 PM
The last couple of days have been a LOnnngggg couple of days. Why? Because sometimes in this business things go quite awry... and when they do? It's the Realtor that is left to clean up the mess. Kind of. I have spent the better part of two days coordinating between the bank, potential buyers, and cleanup companies to fix a mess that probably shouldn't have happened, but did. There are reasons why the banks winterize properties... and there are more reasons why they keep them winterized until the buyer takes over even when the weather passes the danger of freezing. I

Got the itch... - 04/04/12 11:29 PM
Up and down and up and down... there is only one thing that you can say about Minnesota this time of year and that is that it's full of teasers. Every time we have a 70 degree day it's all a girl (and her boys) can do to avoid dreaming of camping and outdoor fun!If we were diehards we could head out for the wild blue yonder now, but it just doesn't work that way. For now we enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and play out as much as we can during the day. It's enough to keep us from

A little work is all relative... - 04/03/12 10:52 PM
When you start looking at houses on the MLS you will see comments once in awhile stating the condition of the home. Generally speaking these statements are pretty ambiguous and unless you read some sort of code you will never figure out what it means. As a Realtor I'd like to say that I've got it all figured out, but the truth is I don't...Unless there are photos I can't promise anything on condition until we've actually taken a look at the home. Even with photos.... it really can be difficult to know what "Some TLC required" means. In

Hangin' Around Waiting for What? - 04/02/12 09:40 PM
If you are hanging around waiting for the best deal on the best house in the best neighborhood you might just find it... but if you don't act soon you might have to hang around just awhile longer than you first thought. You see, from my vantage point things appear to be changing. The wind has shifted and the rope is starting to swing the other direction. For sellers the last few years hanging on to that rope swing might have gotten a bit uncomfortable. The resolve and strength to sit out the market slumps may have left burns in

Every Superhero Needs a Landing Station - 04/01/12 10:31 PM
If you have ever mothered little boys you know that there is great truth to the need for every superhero to have a landing station. The thing is? The superhero has to define his(her) own spot to land. The superheros in my house need and have many landing stations. Currently mimicking the Batman and Spiderman books they've been reading they are finding places to "hide'' their gear between missions. I will rest well tonight knowing that their secret station is underneath my bed.... and if I need my superheroes they are quite nearby. I often wonder how mothers in apartment buildings
