Recycling has become a daily practice. Everyone is using their green and blue boxes to eliminate waste going to landfills. But saving our planet goes beyond this. In September 2007 a company opened in Whitby called envirosponsible. They provide the opportunity for individuals to dispose of items rather than taking them to the dump. These include building materials, windows, metals, kitchen cabinets, etc. Also for sale are rain barrels and composters. Durham Region has an excellent recycle program. In addition to a green bin, blue box and yard waste pickup schedule, they maintain a waste disposal facility. The drop-off faciality is located at 1640 Ritson Road North in Oshawa. Telephone 905.433.2050. Hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The facility accepts the following materials for disposal, recycling, composting or reuse: Residual waste Furniture and appliances Tires Scrap metal Househole hazardous wastes (including car & household batteries) Drywall Needles/syringes Propane tanks Blue box materials Yard waste Paint Electronics Disposal fees are $120 per tonne with a minimum
