Finding the right real estate office to hang your license requires lots of consideration. One should never rush to join an office. I advise you to think about your own strengths and weaknesses and choose an office whose strengths match your weaknesses, while also allowing you to maximize your strengths. Research the companies and interview their agents. Many agents will not say anything negative about their office, but you can ask them specific questions. Put together a list of 10 questions you want to ask the agent or the managing broker prior to making the phone call. Remember to use open-ended questions. Your questions should help you determine if the office you are interviewing is in the business of employing real estate agents, selling real estate, or both. Below are examples of some questions you might want to consider prior to making your decision:
1. If you could change one thing about your office, what would it be?
2. What do you like most about your office? What makes you the most proud?
3. When you heard about people leaving your office, what do you believe were the contributing reasons?
4. If I were to join your company, what are its expectations of me?
5. If the company is not meeting my expectations, and I choose leave, what is the procedure to leave? (If the Managing Broker is uncomfortable with this question this is probably not a good fit for you)
Remember; when you move to a new company expect to lose about 30% of your business that you will need to recover. I will cover in another Blog the reasons you lose this business. So, when you choose your office, you should plan to be there at least two years.
