South Bay schools do it again with outstanding API scores for 2012. Many of the area schools that have seen impressive test scores the past few years continued that trend with some other local schools improving significantly. Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Palos Verdes schools continued their award winning performances. Redondo Beach Unified saw every elementary school exceed 900 scores for the first time with big improvements at Beryl Heights, Birney and Madison. Only Jefferson dropped slightly but had been the top performer for several years.

Although there are a few oceanfront "Strand" homes for sale, the primary reason for the recent rise in median prices is the number of homes and townhomes on the highly sought after "walkstreet" locations. As a short sale listing expert, I've tracked the number of foreclosures, meaning both short sales and bank owned homes (REOs) in the South Bay for the past few years. It wasn't long ago that each month there would be consistently over 100 short sale homes listed in Torrance alone. That certainly isn't the case any longer. One of the many reasons I live and work in Hermosa Beach is that I just love the beach.  Hermosa Beach offers a wonderful smaller town feel in the middle of the big city with plenty of parks, beautiful weather and a beach that's wide enough to accomodate everyone....even on the busiest days.
