Oops- I missed something. Electrical Inspections-Wenatchee and Quincy Real Estate Inspections
One important item when a home is being wired is to properly space receptacles in a room. The reasoning for this is we do not want to see extension cord being used other than on a temporary basis.Extension cords are inherently more prone to failure that can cause fires or shock. This is especially true of the extension cords that look like speaker wire.
The standards state that receptacles need to … (6 comments)

Safety… well it has always been that way. - 08/30/12 06:32 AM
Safety… well it has always been that way. Wenatchee and Leavenworth Home InspectionsAs home inspectors one of the main issues is safety. As a former emergency response person I spent many years evaluating safety issues and planning. Looking for potential chinks in the armor as you may say, looking at probabilities of catastrophic failure and areas of risk.I have grown up and worked in earthquake country, the Pacific NW. This is part of the famous “Pacific Ring of Fire”. So we were always planning for “The Big One” as we would say.

Leavenworth and Wenatchee Real Estate Inspection ServicesWhen we are observing the world around us we will see patterns. Things tend to repeat themselves both in nature and in the human modified world.I am a puzzle guy, mostly Sudoku now but I try to keep doing some form of puzzles. This helps keep my mind sharper and I can actually get read on how well (or not so well ; ) my brain is seeing patterns.During home inspection patterns can lead you to clues and observations.Sometimes the pattern, or lack of there, … (5 comments)

Cracking up- Old Wiring in homes and businesses. Wenatchee and Quincy Home Inspection Services. When performing a home inspection or commercial inspection in older buildings and residences it is very important to thoroughly evaluate the condition of the wiring system whenever possible.I had written an article on tinned copper wires a while back (Tinned wires in the home). This article has a little history on why tinning was performed on copper wires. On a recent inspection I come across a not so uncommon issue with these older wiring systems.Rubber wire insulation dates bate to the later 1800’s and was a common insulator by … (8 comments)

Can’t get in… But Can I get out? Emergency Escape - 08/07/12 07:39 AM
Can’t get in… But Can I get out? Emergency Escape- Chelan and Leavenworth Home Inspection ServicesI have talked about emergency egress and ingress before on bedroom windows. But sometimes you have to reiterate a point. On a recent Wenatchee Home Inspection I observed a curious security feature. The owner must have had some worry about security. As a purposeful and resourceful soul he decided to repurpose some common household items, the bed headboard and footboard.

Now I love ingenuity and creativeness but … (7 comments)

Splish Splash- Swimming Pool Safety- Chelan and Wenatchee Home Inspection ServicesI was performing a recent home inspection that both the buyer and seller where present. During a walkthrough I made comment on the doors having direct access to the pool area should be alarmed. The owner said “is that code”? My immediate response was “Yes”. But it made me think (ouch).
Pool safety really should not be taken lightly. It can only take a few minutes and someone, especially young children, can drown. … (11 comments)
