real estate: Is Your Website Mobile Web Compatible? - 03/26/07 03:07 PM
Have you been to your local cell phone shop lately? It’s hard to find a phone that doesn’t offer access to the internet. There is definitely some room for growth, but many experts seem to think that it will become a very competitive marketplace.
So what does that have to do with the real estate industry? Alot I think. There are 2 vital tools that real estate agents already use effectively, that adapt perfectly to a mobile environment: Maps & listings
Maps are already wide spread on mobile phones on many different levels. You have the stand alone mapping apps, the … (3 comments)

real estate: Marketing a Listing With Google Sketchup? - 02/11/07 11:05 PM

In case you weren’t aware, Google has a neat little tool (that it bought in 3/06) called Sketchup.com  It is basically a 3D modeling tool that lets you design just about anything.
I wanted to do a quick followup post after seeing Katey’s write up on a couple of floor plan websites that may be helpful to use when marketing a listing.  The new sketchup tool looked like it might be able to be used in a similar way.
I came accross a post by Joel Burslem that took me to a Google link about all the different real estate … (1 comments)

real estate: Using Content from PLR Articles on your Blog or Site - 01/23/07 09:18 PM
Many of you know that I subscribe to Michael Campbell’s Internet Marketing Secrets newsletter. Yes, I know that the newsletter is full of affiliate ads, and sometimes reads like an advertisement… but there is some really good stuff in there.
Last year we posted an article on marketing on youtube that was sparked by one of Michael’s newsletters.
In his most recent article, he talked about the “200 page challenge” . It was just a personal challenge, and didn’t really have any real significance, but his method intrigued me. He takes PLR (Private Label Rights) articles, and re-writes them with his … (7 comments)

real estate: Second Life - Is it a Viable Real Estate Economy? - 12/04/06 09:20 AM
I've been meaning to write about this for a long time... Have you heard of Second Life yet?  Here is a link that will help: wikipedia.
It is basically a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), with a few differences.  2L(second life) gives you ultimate creativity to do and create almost anything you want.  The primary difference with 2L is the ability to own the items you create.  This includes real estate.  Once you purchase property on 2L and build on it, you own the structure, and the design.
From their site:
"Land in Second Life is … (6 comments)

real estate: R.I.P. - Reciprocal Linking - Deceased 1999-2006 - 11/30/06 01:24 PM

Is anyone as sick as I am of receiving reciprocal linking requests in the form of spam emails?  I read a fantastic article by Mike Banks Valentine of SearchEngineOptimism.com.  Yes the article is a bit controversial, but that's what makes it a fun read!  The title is: "Reciprocal Linking is Dead"
Here are some excerpts that I thought were excellent:
"I will link, but I will not "swap links" with anyone now. I require content in the form of articles, press releases and news, quotes, testimonials or some form of content."
"What was it that ruined strict reciprocal links for … (9 comments)

real estate: Is Mobile Technology a Useful tool in the Hands of a Successful Agent... Or is it Overkill? - 11/29/06 09:59 AM
Via PRweb I read an interesting press release about Casey Margenau Re/Max's #1 agent worldwide for 5 years straight.  It caught my eye because it's always helpful to look at the best agents to get marketing ideas and inspiration.
Casey just recently started using a service called mobilepricecheck.com.  Here's how it claims to work:
Stick a sign in your yard with a toll free 800 number. The "drive by" customer can call this number and enter a special code that is specific to each listing. Then they receive a text message telling them more about the listing. The agent receives an email report giving … (20 comments)

real estate: vFlyer.com Co-Founder Aaron Sperling Responds - 11/27/06 01:20 PM
One more update... Here are some comments made by Aaron after this was posted:
------------------
When you are editing a vflyer, there is a link to the Photo Editor. On that screen, you can upload one main photo and up to 24 gallery photos. As you browse, select an image and upload from the lower entry area, it will continue to add photos.
By the way, from the “Advanced Contact Settings” link, you can upload an Agent photo, logo, and reference the Realtor association logo.

Update post on vFlyer:   vFlyer.com Co-Founder Aaron Sperling Responds
-----------------------------------------------------------
There has been quite alot of talk about VFlyer lately with their new release of services specifically tailored to real estate.
I thought it would be useful for the AR community to do a full rundown and comparison of the two different free services and let you decide which one to use.  One thing is for certain, if you aren't using one of these services already to promote you're listings... you're missing out big time.
Here is a comparison Chart:

real estate: Review of Pubcon and some Predictions by Randfish of SEOmoz.org - 11/21/06 11:07 AM
One of my favorite SEO/Webmaster blogs is SEOMoz.org.  The content these guys put out is outstanding.
The founder: Randfish recently posted on the pubcon 2006, and based on some of the things he learned, he made some predictions for the next 6 months.  (You'll even notice a mention of Zillow, which shows me the reach and impact it has made in the seo/webmaster world)
Here are the ones I thought were most interesting with my comments below:
Google's Webmaster Central will offer full link information about your site (like the old link command before they broke it)  *I'm curious to see … (10 comments)

real estate: Recent NAR Report Shows Turn Around in Market... Not Imminent, But Already Here! - 11/20/06 04:21 PM
New report from the NAR shows a definite change in the market.  Falling home prices, rising inventory, and slowing sales are just a few of the statistics discussed in the article.
We covered it in our other blog.  Here is the link:

real estate: Marketing on YouTube? - 11/16/06 03:49 PM

I just read a really interesting piece through a newsletter subscription that I have through Internet Marketing Secrets.  It's SEO buff Michael Cambell's weekly newsletter.
He's always been big on affiliate marketing, and adsense revenue strategies through solid SEO techniques.  I used to be a big time SEO geek that would read anything I could get my hands on, but lately I've been so busy, my affiliate marketing side business has been at a stand still.
But something about Michael's newsletter hit me... maybe it was the title: "1,200 New Visitors in 7 days, all treat, no tricks"

real estate: We Have a Winner!!! Teri Isner Hits 100k Points! - 10/30/06 08:51 PM

It took a little longer than expected because of the changes made by the AR guys over to the new point system the night after I posted my 100k point update. Previously, 3 blogs per day could be awarded with points giving each member a possible 600 base points per day just from blog posts. Now, only 10 posts per week are awarded points. So, my original projections were a little off, and it has taken a few extra days... but we finally have a winner!!! Teri Isner! Congratulations!!!
Little surprise really. She has been on track to be the … (7 comments)

real estate: Hittail.com: a Revolution in SEO - 10/16/06 07:17 PM
I found a great site recently... forgive me if you already knew of it's existence.  I was absolutely thrilled when I found it.  There are many services out there that can assist you with finding niche keywords.  The purpose in finding niche keywords is to weed out the competition from the more popular keywords, and rank high for very specific targeted keywords because of lack of competition.  For example: you may commonly target your website for the keyword: Dallas real estate.  Well, you may discover that your site ranks very poorly for this keyword because of the extreme amount of competition.  … (13 comments)

real estate: More Useful Tools Recently Released by Google - 10/05/06 04:56 PM
Since I'm on a Google kick today... I thought I'd mention a couple more tools that Google recently came out with:
1.  Add widgets to your website. (or as Google calls them: "gadgets")  This is my favorite, and is especially useful for the person that wants to add all kinds of cool tools onto their website with minimal effort.  There are over 1,200 of them, and they range from stock tickers, to news aggregators, to mini games.  With a simple cut and paste, you could be playing a mini game of pacman on your homepage.  There are so many options with this … (1 comments)

real estate: Google Launches New Blogger Friendly Search Service - 10/05/06 11:20 AM

Google has just launched a specialized Blog only search portal.  http://blogsearch.google.com  From what I can see it looks like a very cool way to search for blog content.  So often blog content can get watered down and not rank well in the standard serps.  It seems like Google is trying to change that.  All of the search results come directly from blogs all over the internet.
There were some people that speculated that Google would only include results from it's Blogger.com blogs, but Google seems to be clear that they will include content from any Blog that has an … (5 comments)

real estate: The REAL Haunted Mansion is up for Sale - 09/28/06 10:24 AM

The original mansion that inspired Disney World's "Haunted Mansion" is officially up for sale for 1.75 mil.  This famous mansion named the "Harry Packer Mansion" is located in Jim Thorpe, PA.
Supposedly, according to their website this mansion was used as a model for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, FL.  Personally, I think it looks very similar to the original haunted mansion at Disney Land in California (I grew up 10 minutes away)...
In recent years, the mansion has been host to weekend murder mystery weekends:
"The Murder Mystery at the Harry Packer Mansion is based on factual events with a … (22 comments)

real estate: Review: Sex Offender Database Search & Informational Websites - 09/26/06 10:56 AM
A few months ago, someone sent me a link for a local Douglas county, CO website that allowed you to search for your address to see if there were any registered sex offenders near your home.  I was shocked to see that there was one only a block away!  This really scared me since my wife and I just had our first baby, a girl.
Over the last couple of years it seems like the gov't has finally been cracking down on their sex offender registries and requiring past offenders to register a new address when they move.  But it's still scary … (9 comments)
