real estate marketing: New Advertising Opportunity for the Real Estate & Christian Communities - 07/01/08 06:48 PM
The Christian Real Estate Network has been around for over 6 1/2 years now… But during that time we never opened up our websites or customer base for Christian advertising. That is now changing with our release of a new advertising product for businesses looking to market to an extremely niche group of people: Christian consumers, and real estate professionals.
We will have many traditional ad methods to advertise on the site including banner ads and text link ads, but will also include some unique opportunities like advertisements on our member website, special article advertisements to our large email list and … (7 comments)

real estate marketing: How to Build Solid Incoming Links to a Real Estate Website/Blog - 05/19/08 05:19 PM
It seems like there has been alot of talk about link building lately… maybe it’s just me, but most SEO’s know that quality link building is a pretty important part of offsite optimization.
So, I thought I’d share something that has helped me quite a bit. There is a great seo link building tool put out by SoloSEO (of which I’m a happy customer). It was built a while back based on a post by my hero: Rand Fishkin.
I highly suggest you try it out if you are looking for some link building help. I’ll also post some of the … (65 comments)

real estate marketing: Long Tail Keywords vs. Short Tail Keywords on Your Real Estate Blog - 04/22/08 05:19 PM
Mary McKnight wrote an interesting post on why she believes that the long tail does not work well for real estate bloggers. I found it to be an interesting read… but like so many of the “how to” real estate marketing blogs out there, I found it to be too one sided and unbalanced. It reminds me of the argument that has become classic in the real estate blogosphere: should you write for the search engines or write for readers? The answer is BOTH!!
By the way, Mary: you know I love ya, and I’m not trying to start an argument … (44 comments)

real estate marketing: Crazy Myth: Posting listings to a blog is too hard, time consuming & pointless - 11/27/07 05:34 PM
Here is an excerpt from my blog on how to post listings on your blog effectively...

============
Crazy Myth #4: Posting listings on my blog will water down the rest of my content This myth actually isn’t so crazy. It’s a real concern that many real estate bloggers have, and I don’t recommend that anyone write a post about an individual listing and include it with their regular blog content.
So, here is how you get around that… The solution I’m sharing can be done on any platform, but I’m going to show you how with wordpress.
The best solution … (39 comments)

real estate marketing: The Real Estate Blog Balancing Act - 10/26/07 03:43 PM

This post was stirred on by a post from Joel Burslem over at RealEstateMarketingSecrets.com. He was writing about the death of the multi author blog, and it really got me thinking about local real estate blogs.
Joel pointed out that he is often overwhelmed by the multi author blogs simply because of the large amount of content. And to some extent I agree with him. One of the reasons I’m not a frequent visitor to the RainCityGuide and the BloodHoundBlog is because there is simply too much to read… it’s information overload.  Sure it’s fun to visit every once in … (36 comments)

real estate marketing: How to Spice up Your Email Signature by Using Your Blog Feed - 10/16/07 03:44 PM
Syndicating your content is pretty important these days. My students often get overwhelmed when I tell them all the places they need to submit their blog to including social bookmarking sites, activerain, carnivals… the list goes on and on.
Things can get more complicated when you try to market your blog on and offline, and you can quickly get burned out with manually adding your blog to hundreds of different places.
Well, here’s an easy way to get your blog out to everyone that you converse with on a day to day basis through email. A banner in your email signature … (39 comments)

real estate marketing: How to Avoid Suffering From Blogging & Social Media Overload - 10/05/07 11:07 AM
As we enter into the golden age of blogging, and the maturity of social media websites like Facebook, Linkedin, ActiveRain, and others.  I’ve begun to see a trend emerging among real estate professionals.  Many of them simply don’t care about social networking, reading other blogs, participating in a community, or contributing in any way.  Does anyone else see that?
In some respects I even see that happening in my own online experience.  The hundreds of feeds in my Bloglines reader just don’t do it for me like they used to.  I broke my addiction to points on ActiveRain, and I’m totally … (16 comments)

real estate marketing: Is Your Market Over Saturated With Other Bloggers? - 10/04/07 03:07 PM
I’ve heard some talk lately from discouraged real estate bloggers that can’t seem to rank well in the search engines. They try blogging for a few weeks and then give up often times assuming that there are simply too many competing blogs and websites in their market area. In most markets, this is simply not the case!
Yes, it is true that there are a few places around the country that have fierce competition. Those would be in places like: Seattle, Phoenix, San Francisco, Florida, and a few others…
But for the most part, there are very few markets that are … (22 comments)

real estate marketing: Congrats to AR's Jon Washburn & Matt Heaton for Making Inman's Top 100 List - 09/20/07 11:21 AM
Yesterday afternoon, Inman news posted their annual list:
100 Most Influential Real Estate Leaders: 2007
The list this year included many of the people you'd expect to see, but also had a few new faces from the online RE world including: Lockhart Steele from Curbed, Glenn Kellman from Redfin, and Pete Flint from Trulia.
I was pleasantly surprised at the bottom of the list when I noticed that Jonathan Washburn & Matt Heaton (the founders of Active Rain) made the notables list.  I was a little disappointed that they didn't make the technology and online real estate category, because they have arguably had more … (25 comments)

real estate marketing: Stop Complaining About ActiveRain, and Start Using the Greatest Referral Network of all time! - 09/14/07 01:44 PM
Ok, I’m getting kind of sick of the critics of ActiveRain that complain that it doesn’t provide enough buyer/seller leads for the amount of time invested in blogging on the site. I know I just wrote about this, but I still have some frustration to get out.
First of all, according to the results of my questions to ActiveRain members in the last post, nearly all of them had received a direct buyer/seller lead from ActiveRain… but I want to point out something else. I personally feel that the members of AR that aren’t getting any leads are either extremely new, … (76 comments)

real estate marketing: 1 Year Anniversary With ActiveRain - Reflections, Observations & Questions - 09/11/07 05:16 PM
Today is my 1 year anniversary on ActiveRain… and I have some observations I’d like to share, and questions I’d like to ask the ActiveRain community. It has been an interesting ride.  I remember my first week vividly... I wrote like a mad man.  In the first 4 days, I wrote 3 posts per day, and hit 10,000 points in that first week.  I was addicted to the points, but most of all I was addicted to the community.  Name one other place on the internet for the real estate community where you can come on as a beginner, post something, and … (36 comments)

real estate marketing: Denver Area Bloggers Unite with Blog Tour USA! - 07/18/07 04:45 PM
It was a pleasure to be able to attend the Rembex Blog Fiesta earlier today in Denver, CO! There is something special about being able to see people face to face after building purely online relationships.  This was my very first large scale blogger meet-up, and it was just exciting to see all the bloggers come together.
It was a fantastic turnout with around 30-40 people attending, and according to Joe from Sellsius, it was probably the largest turn out for any stop they’ve had on the Blog Tour.
We were able to hear a few people speak including Todd, Kristal, … (6 comments)

real estate marketing: The Art of Puking Your Business Identity Onto the Internet - 07/18/07 01:03 PM
Normally, I’d place an appropriate picture relating to the title here, but decided that this time it wouldn’t be prudent.
This post was spawned off of an article I read by Brian Brady on the new real estate weblogging 101 website. Although I didn’t completely agree with his perspective on SEO, I understand where he is coming from. Basically, his method is… “puke” out your picture and sales pitch to every imaginable website or online space that lets you have a free profile and see what sticks.
Brian does a heck of alot of writing. You can find his work regularly … (94 comments)

real estate marketing: Driving Traffic to Your Blog Through SEO - #9 How to Start a Local Real Estate Blog - 06/15/07 12:44 PM
Sorry for the short hiatus… my wife and I were busy having a baby last Thursday!
_____________________
Many of you have probably heard the terms: SEO & SEM (Search Engine Optimization, and Search Engine Marketing). There is such a vast amount of information on both topics out there, and it may be confusing. It’s hard to know who to trust, and who the experts are with all of the controversial topics surrounding the subject. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the cofusion about page rank, Google Sandboxing, duplicate content, link exchanging, keyword density, the list goes on and on…
But … (59 comments)

There were some great posts submitted, and here are my top 4 picks:
It’s an honor to be able to judge this, the 45th week of the Carnival of Project Blogger, and choose who I feel to be the best super hero bloggers with the most super powers.
So, in no particular order, here are my 4 favorite carnival submissions:

I hope this 8th part of our series on how to start a local real estate blog finds you being inundated with new customers from your blog. If not, don’t worry. If you have been following along in this series, your blog in only about 1 month old. Our example blog: The Rock is doing fairly well. I’ve been trying to network with some of the other bloggers in my area as best I can. I had breakfast with Larry Russell from the Parker Real Estate Agent blog a few weeks ago. And I have been thinking seriously about organizing a … (29 comments)

real estate marketing: Google Launches the "Street View" - Can it be used for Real Estate??? - 05/30/07 08:36 AM

Today Google announced and launched a pretty amazing new feature to Google maps. The Street view.
You may be asking yourself, how do they take a satellite picture from that angle… uhhh yeah… it’s not a satellite photo. Google has broken out of the mold and has hit the streets apparently with the help of a company called Immersive. As you can see from the video and pics it is a pretty amazing tool. They currently only have 5 cities available, but I’m sure there are more to come. So far it’s:Miami, San Francisco, Denver, New York City, and … (15 comments)

real estate marketing: 5 Reasons to Start a Real Estate Blog Today - 05/29/07 11:56 AM
I get asked all the time… what is the best way to market a real estate business online? My answer is always the same: Blogs

Search engines love blogs, and don’t like traditional websites. That’s because there is fresh content on blogs, and traditional websites just sit around and grow stale. Blogs rank better in the search engines, and if done right, they can rank extremely well for local real estate searches with minimal effort. They are also link magnets, and will help to grow your online presence very quickly.People love fresh content. Be honest with yourself. Do you really … (9 comments)

real estate marketing: Blogging Ideas — How to Start a Local Real Estate Blog #7 - 05/23/07 04:14 PM
<!-- sphereit start --> So, you’ve begun your blog, and it has been online for a few weeks… now what? Where do you go from here?
Onwards and upwards. That initial excitement may be gone, and you may be wondering when your first lead will come, but don’t worry. Remember, blogging is a commitment. There are very few bloggers that become successful in the first few weeks. You have to build a strong reader base, and grow your content.
The interesting thing about blogging is that it really exercises your mind. You may have found that it takes alot longer than … (35 comments)
