Home ownership remains a big part of the American dream for most people and families in the U.S. and here in California.
However, during this challenging economy time and past decade, those renting vs. owning a home has grown in numbers here at Orange County, CA.

I like the Paul Scheper article "FHA Loans becoming popular in Orange County" in this month's Orange County REALTOR® magazine, which was published by the Orange County Association of REALTORs®.  
 Paul says in his article that FHA loans have emerged as loan of choice for many Orange County buyers, as much as 38% of market, and there are reasons why:
Reason 1:  Ease of Qualifying (no Fannie Mae loan delivery adjustments, credit score of 740 not required)
Reason 2:  Higher Loan Limit extended through 2011 ($729,750 in Orange County)

Irvine, CA, had 830 homes listed for sale as of May 31, 2011 (according to Southern California MLS system), with average asking price of $844,018.
Since the government's first time homebuyer tax credits came to an end June 30, 2010, the Irvine home resale market has been adjusting to its new normal.
174 Irvine CA homes were sold last month during May 2011, with average sold price of $696,612 (a 20% decline in number sold as compared with May 2010).
With prior government tax credit incentives, 220 Irvine homes were sold during May 2010 (same time last year) with average sold price of $699,681.
