When it comes to summer, thoughts turn to pools, cookouts, and fun in the sun. With the season quickly approaching, we thought you may be able to use a few quick tips on keeping your summer safe, sunny, and healthy.

If you're fortunate enough to own a swimming pool, there comes with your fortune a lot of responsibility - especially if you plan on hosting parties or allowing your children to. You may consider removing your diving board. If you don't, be sure every bolt is tightened and the base is secure. The same applies for pool slides. Remember to remove pool covers completely when anyone is swimming, and do not allow anyone to play with it. The depth of the water should be clearly marked around the pool. Instruct all swimmers to stay away from pool suction outlets, as they can be extremely dangerous, and make sure all electronic devices are kept away from the pool at all times.

Many kids (and some adults too) love jumping on a trampoline during the sunny summer days. Again, if you're fortunate enough to own a trampoline, understand that they are only to be used with great responsibility. If children are jumping, there should always be adult supervision. Use common sense when placing the trampoline by making sure it's clear of any cars, swing sets, or anything else which could cause injury. Remember that somersaults are the leading cause of quadriplegic injuries and should not be permitted. You may also want to consider adding a trampoline safety net.

Cookouts, cookouts!  One of the best things about the summer is gathering around the grill, relaxing, and spending time with your loved ones. Before hosting a cookout, make sure that your deck or patio is well maintained. Check for weak areas or holes in the flooring, and look for exposed wood surfaces. If you find any, stain or paint them.

If you have lots of summer guests and a dog, make sure your dog is ready for visitors. Make sure he or she is "socialized" enough to be good around strangers. One of the leading causes of neighbor lawsuits is dog bites.

We hope these tips help keep your summer bright. If you have a pool, a trampoline, or a dog with a "history,"  you may want to talk to us about umbrella coverage. For more information on home insurance and liability, contact us today! We're HO Insurance, based in Altamonte Springs, Florida!
