I came into the office at the end of last week to see this note on my desk. Apparently we found this posted on our property by one of our residents. I really wish I knew who it was so I could shake their hand. I have a feeling we might be seeing more of these when the weather gets warmer in the spring...
I get so tired of turning on the news and hearing about all the shenanigans going on lately...useless trips to Asia, the impending doom that is the health "care" bill, Massachusetts sales tax increasing, our legislature adjouring for the rest of the year even though we have a $125 million deficit... (come on people, seriously?)
When I moved to Boston I decided the quickest way to meet people would be to get involved in some type of political group. Once I started listening to the news I knew I absolutely had to. My friends back home told me I was crazy to move to such a liberal state with my very conservative views... (after seeing the taxes taken out of my paycheck they might not be far off). I decided to help out with the July 4th Tea Party and met Brad Marston, the organizer of the event. It was refreshing to meet another common sense conservative up here!
I'm so glad we have people like Brad who will step up to the plate and tackle the mess that is Beacon Hill. Brad is running for State Representative in the Suffolk Eighth District, against incumbent Marty Walz. His campaign is based on common ground and common sense: fixing our "spending crisis" instead of continuing to raise taxes, changing the "behind closed door" culture Beacon Hill is so fond of, and helping to get the 20,000 at-risk youth into good school are just a few of the issues he's focused on. With over 25 years of experience in both finance and business management, Brad has the know-how to get the job done.
If you're in the Boston area, stop by Cafeteria (Newbury St) on December 9th from 6pm-8pm for a meet and greet with Brad!
I still have a few months to go before our season opener against Alabama on Sept 5th and it still seems like a lifetime away. It's pitiful- I'm religiously checking Twitter, HokieSports, ACC page and ESPN for any news concerning our football team. I've refrained from texting some of my friends on the team- they'd probably think I was crazy.
If you have a CharlieCard, you could be getting discounts! So I might be a bit behind the times on this, but just discovered all the places you can get a discount with your card. I found this at the official Boston city webpage and thought it was too nifty to not pass along. Aside from restaurants and museums, you can get discounts on different services, healthcare, gyms, shops and entertainment venues.
Hop on over to the MBTA CharlieCard Discount page to check out where you can get discounts! Cause everyone knows, discounts are big in this economy....
I just read this article, compliments of Fark. Basically, a 7-year old patron of a library outside of his district was told he could no longer come back to the library. He was "found out" after a reporter, scheduled to come in for an article about the library, posted a picture in the newspaper with the boy's hometown.
As a kid who was runner up to the person who read the most books in the library (yeah I know, geek), I can't believe that a librarian would go through the trouble of looking up that information and calling to say "No library for you!" I would've been devestated. Isn't the whole point that we want kids to be reading, not sitting on a couch playing video games all day?
I know the library revoked their previous statement and said he could use it until the end of 2009... but did they miss something when the paperwork was filled out? It's not like they didn't know. Let the kid read already- if his request for a library card was approved then let it stand.
I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this, but it's definitely being added to my list of things to do! Ships competing in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge will be porting here July 8-12. The types of ships range from the Topsail Schooner to the Tree-masted Schooner to the the Full-rigged Ship. There are public boarding times on each day- 5pm-10pm Thursday and Friday and 5pm-8pm Friday and Saturday. They'll be at the Charlestown Navy Yard, Seaport World Trade Center and Fishpier.
There's also a festival on Friday at Downtown Crossing around noon, among other events. It's all free- even better!
Below are two of the ships that came last year. Check out Sail Boston '09 for more info!
Sail Boston is happening within 5 minute walking distance of Harborview at the Navy Yard, Charlestown's premier waterfront living!
I suppose campaigning for fairer taxes is being a rebel now days. At least that's what Mom called me with a laugh when I told her I'd be volunteering for the MA-NH Independence Day Tea Party.
I was really bummed when I missed my local tea party back on tax day. I have three professors to thank for putting back to back to back exams on that day. Some friends threw in a few tea bags for me and I figured oh I'll just do it next year. When I found out there were tea parties on July 4th, the first thing I searched for was how to volunteer for this. I posted on the forum that I could help with their publication and media rep. Seeing that the last posts were back in May I wasn't sure I would hear anything about it.
Maybe two or three hours later I got an email saying they'd love me to help as a media rep and adding to their publications already going on. Woohoo! They had Fox News, the Herald, local stations, CNN and a few others at their last tea party, so here's to hoping we get as much coverage! +1 for grassroots movements, it's time for these ridiculous taxes to disappear. In the words of Bon Qui Qui- NEEDS TA GO!
This will probably be one of the more memorable July 4th's...
If only I had a yard to stick this in..... I've only gotten one paycheck in this state and already I feel Tea'd!
Also, they're still looking for volunteers, so anyone who will be in the Boston area that would like to volunteer, visit their website and post on the forum what you can help with. :)
Our office has been contemplating adding to our available services. It seems that a lot of the apartment communities around here have the same services- 24 hr concierge, dry cleaning, pet sitting, discounts on certain stores and restaurants.
The question is- if you could choose any service you wanted, which one would you ask of your apartment community?
What better place to spend July 4th than the city where the fight for Independence was the fiercest?
Grab your lawn chairs, a couple of cases of Sam Adams and your grill and bunker down in the Oval! Boston Pops concert begins at 8:30pm July 4th with a flyover from the 104th Fighter Wing.
