fairfax: July 4,2009: Fireworks Displays in Northern Virginia - 07/01/09 12:19 PM
With July upon us, it is time to start figuring out your plans to celebrate Independence Day.  One of my favorite places to watch fireworks on the 4th is from a boat on the Potomac River. The Potomac provides an exceptional place from which to view the Fireworks from the National Mall in Washington D.C. The local PBS radio station plays classical music to accompany the display and you can hear it coming from all of the boats anchored on the river. If you haven't had the opportunity to do that, it really is a great experience.
If you are looking … (1 comments)

fairfax: An Important Way to Give Thanks This Year - 11/20/08 07:18 AM
At this time of year, we all get caught up with our own lives--family, shopping, work, etc. There is an easy way that you can give back to your community and it will only take about an hour of your time.
The Red Cross always needs blood donations, and during the holidays, it is often difficult for them to keep up their supplies.
In the Northern Virginia area, they are offering  Thanksgiving Day appointments.  Why not put in your Turkey and give an hour of your time to help someone in need? It is a great way to demonstrate how thankful … (2 comments)

fairfax: Another Delightful Evening at Wolf Trap! - 07/17/08 10:56 AM
For anyone lucky enough to live in Northern Virginia and within a reasonable distance of the Wolf Trap Foundation  for the Performing Arts, please make it a priority to pick a concert or a show to attend this summer and GO!
We went to see Earth, Wind & Fire last night with some good friends.  The show was spectacular, the park was beautiful and the location cannot be beat if you live in Northern Virginia--or even metropolitan Maryland or DC!
Many concert-goers opt to purchase the more affordable lawn tickets and have a picnic while enjoying the music. If you go … (0 comments)

fairfax: Fresh Produce and More...every day of the Week in Northern Virgnina! - 06/17/08 10:55 AM
Saturday Morning I made my almost-12 year old run errands with me. Our last stop was at the Lake Anne Village local farmers market in Reston. I could tell by his gait as we left the car that he was less than eager.  He had a blast!  Fresh food, snacks, plants and more...what's not to like? He now told me he wants to go every week. I told him that in our area (Fairfax County, Eastern Loudoun areas of Northern Virgnina) we are fortunate to have one of these markets almost every day.
Here is a list of local markets you might … (2 comments)

fairfax: Fun Things to Do in Fairfax County, Virginia in June! - 06/03/08 04:38 PM
This is a great time of year to attend local festivals and there are a couple of good ones coming up in June.
The weekend of June 8th and 9th, plan to attend the Celebrate Fairfax! at the Fairfax Government Center.  This festival is always well attended and has great headliner bands.  Some of the bands appearing this year include: OK Go, Bowling for Soup, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Emerson Drive. More information about this event can be found at: http://www.celebratefairfax.org/index.asp?sid=1.

fairfax: New Cap for FHA Backed Loans - 03/07/08 12:51 PM
The Federal Government raised the ceiling amount on government insured loans in high-cost areas, effective March 6, 2008. This was wonderful news for the Washington Metropolitan Area and folks interested in buying, or selling, a home.
Since I am licensed in Virginia, and that is where the bulk of my clients live, I checked to make sure that all of the counties in which I work were covered. These new limits cover all of the ‘inside the beltway areas' and extend out to Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford and Fauquier (as well as other areas not specifically mentioned). This new loan limit, … (0 comments)
