- 05/22/14 07:31 AM
This is a big year for my family. My second daughter graduated from college and my youngest, a son, will graduate from high school and move on to college. As a result of these milestones, I am currently going through a lot of 'lasts' (the 'firsts' will come soon enough, I know). Last night was my son's final Guitar Ensemble concert. After 4 years in the program, he is a pretty accomplished guitarist thanks to the commitement and efforts of his amazing guitar teacher at Herndon High School, Mr. Chris Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham has created an award winning program and created (0 comments)
fairfax county public schools: How Do School Boundaries Affect Your Fairfax County Home Purchase/Sale?

How Do School Boundaries Affect Your Fairfax County Home Purchase/Sale? When I am working with buyers who have school-aged children, our search usually begins with one, or several, school boundaries. The reasons are obvious; if you believe a school would be well suited for your child, you will seek a home that will allow them to attend that school. Buyers who don't have children are usually blissfully unaware of the school boundaries, but it should be an important consideration for them, too. At some point, every buyer becomes a seller. fairfax county public schools: Fairfax County Public Schools 2012-13 School Year Calendars
- 08/14/12 12:43 AM
It is almost that time again...time to send the kiddies back to school for the 2012-13 school year in Fairfax County, Virginia! I find that it is always helpful to get our family calendar set up with all of the school holidays, early closings and other important events that happen during the year (back-to-school night, etc.) before school begins. In order to do that, I access the Fairfax County School Calendar. The Back-to-School-Night calendar is also available on the County Website. After I have entered in all of those dates, I go to the school website (those can be found at this link:http://commweb.fcps.edu/directory/ ) (1 comments)
fairfax county public schools: Fairfax County Public Schools Changes Last Day of School, 2012
- 04/12/12 09:40 PM
It has been a very mild winter in Fairfax County, Virginia. As a result, the Fairfax County School Board has modified the 2011-12 schedule to make the last day of school Friday, June 15, 2012. The school year has been modified by reducing the number of days in the school year by 2 to allow this earlier closing date. For more information about this calendar change, or other actions of the school board, visit the Fairfax County Public Schools website. If your plans include the purchase or sale of property in Northern Virginia, I would love to help you with Moving Your Dreams Forward! (0 comments)
fairfax county public schools: An Alternative for Fairfax County Teens

There is always a lot of discussion about whether it is fair to push all graduating Seniors towards college. We are all familiar with the arguments in favor of college, but we don't always hear as much discussion about postponing college. In Europe, it is common for students to take a 'Gap Year,' before attending University. Today, I got an email about a Gap Year Program Fair in Fairfax County for our students to provide them with information about taking a Gap Year. If you know a FCPS high school student who might benefit from some extra time before heading off to college (1 comments)
fairfax county public schools: Full Day Kindergarten for all Fairfax County Schools
- 02/05/11 01:24 AM
Full Day Kindergarten for all Fairfax County Schools The Fairfax County School board voted this week to implement Full Day Kindergarten in all Fairfax County Schools. This has been a long time coming. The county had begun rolling out this program, and had implemented it in a number of elementary schools, and then was forced to halt it when budget issues arose. Finally, after community pressure, the county has agreed that their world class school system should provide an equal opportunity to all of its students. The argument against Full Day Kindergarten is that not all children are ready to attend (1 comments)
