family time: The Day Has Finally Arrived - 08/22/08 08:30 AM
Tomorrow I join the legions of parents who have driven up to a university and dropped off their child.  I know it won't be that easy (if I don't make her bed, who will?).  She is a great kid and I am so excited for her opportunity.  But as anyone who has been through it (or will have to go through it), it is bittersweet.

family time: National Obsession...And it is a Marathon! - 08/17/08 05:35 PM
Last week I wrote about the Olympics and the way it brings our family--and our nation--together (http://activerain.com/blogsview/638157/Ode-to-the-Olympics). 
It has been 9 days since we watched that amazing opening ceremony. So much has happened: we learned that the little girl singing in the ceremony was not actually the little girl singing, Michael Phelps has proven himself to be the most elite of elite athletes, Dara Torres has given the 'over 40' crowd a little extra inspiration and countless athletes have proven that all of their hard work was worth it! We celebrate them all...but I am exhausted!

family time: Ode to the Olympics and Family Time every 4 Years - 08/12/08 03:39 PM
My family loves the Olympics!  They don't care about the politics, they only care about injuries that might keep their favorite athletes from competing.  Not politically correct, but the truth!

Once every four years you can find us all cheerfully scattered around the family room rooting for the 'home team.' There are no complaints of boredom, or 'forced' family time.  The kids talk about the upcoming events for weeks. They scour the paper and watch endless re-runs of competition footage.
They can remember every Summer Olympics since about the age of 5--and they talk about them.  I find this astounding!  … (5 comments)
