just for fun: Dog-Friendly Realtor...How Can You Tell? - 05/11/12 04:12 AM
I am a Realtor, a wife, a mother and the owner of 2 four-legged babies, Emmy and Gigi.  There are times when these two dogs drive me crazy, but I love them both and they keep me grounded. This morning, as I prepared for a private showing of one of my upcoming listings, it occured to me that I probably wear my love for pets on my sleeve--or pants, as the case may be. So how can you tell I am a dog-owning Realtor? Here are some of the ways: All my slacks and skirts have tell-tale slime at dog height. I try to … (4 comments)

just for fun: The Caped Crusader Fights Childhood Cancer - 03/29/12 04:28 AM
Every once in a while, you read a news story that just makes you feel good about mankind.
This morning in the Washington Post, I read just such a story.
There is a gentleman in the D.C. area who has made it his quest in life to bring joy and excitement to kids suffering from cancer and with cancer treatments. Driving his black Lamborghini, and dressed as one our favorite superheroes, Batman, this caped crusader visits local hospitals and gives his time--and gifts--to the young patients.
He has been fortunate enough in his career to be able to afford to bring … (0 comments)

just for fun: Farewell, Whitney Houston...I will always love you! - 02/14/12 04:53 PM
Since I heard of the untimely death of Whitney Houston on Saturday night, I have been walking around with a single soundtrack running through my head. I hear it when I lay down at night, at the gym, at the computer. You get the idea.
I have to say that I love this song. I hope that by watching the video and really enjoying it, I can put the song back to bed in the recesses of my mind.
Funny, last night, my husband told me this song had been a contstant running through his mind, too. When it came on … (1 comments)

just for fun: Are You Ready for Commitment? - 02/14/12 07:01 AM
I hope that you are, I am just not entirely sure. It just seems  that you still have some things to work through.  I know you like to travel and that you love trips that are both long and expensive. That kind of travel might not be as easy for you to do. In fact, it might become very difficult.  I know that you like to go out regularly with your friends. That is also an expensive and time consuming habit and I worry that you won't  always have time for me.  Are you willing to sometimes put my needs above yours? Are you willing to deal … (7 comments)

just for fun: Book Review: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson - 01/04/12 07:04 AM
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson Let me just say, I loved this book!   It is a long one, so I brought it on our vacation to Cancun (on my Kindle, not my iPad...sorry, Steve).  I dreaded starting it, thinking I would feel like I was reading a business case study or an onerous biography. Finally, the thought of not having it done in time for my end-of-January Book Club meeting got me to start the book (it is 571 pages, which seemed long for a beach read!). I surprised that I could not put it down. I am a half-hearted Apple Fan. … (4 comments)

just for fun: MotorCycle Santa Spreads Christmas Cheer in Reston & Herndon, VA - 12/15/11 12:26 PM
Last year, around this time, my daughter and I spotted Motorcycle Santa on the Fairfax County Parkway, in Reston, VA. She snapped this picture from my Blackberry, while I kept my eyes on the road: Last Saturday, I spotted him again, this time on Reston Parkway. He was blasting music from the speakers on his bike (All I want for Christmas is You).  Two years in a row? Who is this guy and is he the same one from last year? Today, I saw an article in the Herndon Patch, Motorcycle-Riding Santa Claus Brings Holiday Fun to Local Schools. Now I am not … (1 comments)

just for fun: 10 Tips for Successful On-line Shopping - 12/13/11 07:08 AM
I was an early adapter to on-line shopping. I know it is not for everyone, and there are certainly security risks, but if you find yourself taking advantage of what is offered on the Internet  here are a couple of tips I have learned through the years to make a better, and more affordable, option. Create an email address that is dedicated to shopping.  This will keep your in-box from being cluttered with offers and promotions. You will also know where all your purchase and shipping confirmations are. Don't lose the password, especially if you don't shop often on-line. Check to see that the … (8 comments)

just for fun: My Personal Thoughts on the U.S. Postal Service - 12/09/11 07:47 AM

Since no one ever seems to ask me what I think of the crisis at the Postal Service, I decided that today, I would use my blog to provide my opinion.
First off, I am a fan of the USPS. I remember as a little kid sending postcards and letters to pen pals around the country and the world. I use the postal service regularly for marketing and I still send Thank You notes. That said, I have some comments about the service.   I don't care about Saturday service. There are many services and vendors that I don't have access to … (51 comments)

just for fun: I Finally Made It To The Dance! - 11/06/11 12:01 PM
We all remember that feeling from middle school: everyone knows something that we don't. Either that or, 'everyone is allowed to do something that I am not.' It is an uncomfortable feeling when you think are missing out on something that everyone else isn't. You feel a little bit alone and isolated. But, no more...I finally have an iPhone (4S)!  Never one to worry too much about peer pressure, I have to say, I am enjoying the attention from my earlier-to-the-dance iPhone friends. Since I went live with my iPhone (and innocently, forgot to change the signature that says, 'sent from … (3 comments)

just for fun: Daylight Savings Time Ends 11/6/11! - 11/05/11 08:12 AM
Sunday morning, November 6 at 2:00 a.m. most parts of the United States will gain an extra hour of sleep as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end.
It makes the most sense to correct your clocks before you go to bed on Saturday night--that way you wake up with the correct time on Sunday morning. It is also a great time to replace the batteries in any battery operated smoke or carbon monoxide detectors. We will return to Daylight Savings Time the 2nd Sunday in March, 2012. … (5 comments)

just for fun: What would I do with an extra three hours of time? - 11/04/11 05:32 PM
Once upon a time I was a harried mother of three young children. My husband traveled all the time. At times, the children were all in different schools and so I spent a lot of time driving around. They played soccer and baseball, did scouting and dance, I volunteered at the school and spent hours at the playground.  I stayed home with them and relished my alone time.
Over time, they started to grow up. Eventually, the oldest became a licensed driver and my burden was lightened. Then she went off to college and my second got her drivers license. Now there are … (10 comments)

just for fun: Happy Halloween! - 10/31/11 05:19 PM
I just finished carving the pumpkins with my youngest son, now 15.  His is the one with the Nike Swoosh and mine is the one that I was trying to make look sarcastic. (Okay, so I am not going to win any pumpkin carving awards). We have a number of family traditions that we do each year. We carve the pumpkins late on Halloween afternoon, we save the seeds and bake them (see recipe below), we have hot dogs, baked beans and salad for dinner (from back when we had to feed the little ones quickly and easily) , we place luminaries up … (8 comments)

just for fun: Speechless Sunday: Fall Flowers, Pumpkins and Snow - 10/30/11 02:37 PM
I know we did not even begin to get the amount of snow seen in other places on the East Coast.  It is odd, however, to seen snow and (live) flowers at the same time, so I thougtht I would share this photo.
In the upper left hand corner, you can see the last of my summer flowers, too!

just for fun: Fall Season of Miracles: Watching My Children Grow and Succeed - 10/21/11 07:29 AM
This summer,  my friend's son suffered a terrible tragedy: he was paralyzed after diving into the James River in Richmond. I wrote a post about it last month, Life Can Change in an Instant... Despite the fact that I did not know him personally, and haven't been in touch with his father since college, my husband and I were profoundly shaken by this tragedy. Here was a 16 year old, athletic, teenage boy who was taking advantage of a bright sunny day on a summer afternoon and,  by the time the afternoon ended, his life was left forever changed. There is not a day … (9 comments)

just for fun: Blog Action Day 2011: FOOD Is the Topic - 10/04/11 09:36 AM
As I have gotten more comfortable with posting, I have switched from the mentality of blogging simply for marketing to that of being a blogger. The difference is subtle, since my primary reason for blogging is still to enlarge my marketing sphere.

One of the annual events that I participate in is Blog Action Day. This is an international event where bloggers from all over the world join forces and blog on a single topic. Anyone who blogs can tell you that one of the ongoing challenges is finding new topics. Here is one day out of the year where someone … (8 comments)

just for fun: How Kindergarten Shaped Me... - 08/17/11 09:43 AM
Fuzzy images of cubbies and long tables with cute little chairs is what I think of when I think of Kindergarten. That and the fact that my mom brought in Chocolate Covered Cherries to celebrate George Washington's Birthday (remember the cherry tree?). I remember thinking how smart my mom was to think of that for our celebration. Of course, I have no recollection of how many 5 year olds ate the Chocolate Covered Cherries (I don't think most people like them much...lollipops might have been a cheaper and more impressive choice, given the audience). You would think I would have retained … (5 comments)

just for fun: Having a Bad Day? Belt This One Out! - 08/16/11 05:18 PM
Every once in a while, I will have one of those days where things seem to go from bad to worse. One of the things that always cheers me up is to get in my car (alone) and blast some of my favorite songs (maybe they think I am talking on my bluetooth?). This one is JUST PERFECT, whether or not you are a Taylor Swift fan, I guarantee that it will make you smile.

just for fun: Why I Chose Real Estate--Or Did I? - 08/13/11 11:44 AM
When I was a child, a typical Saturday afternoon might mean accompanying Mom to get a signature on a listing or to drop off a contract. This was back in the day before fax machines, cell phones and computers. Her job as a Realtor® meant many hours in the car and lots of time away from home. Frankly, I hated it. Although I loved the chance to see all the really pretty homes, I decided early on that real estate was not for me! I went to college, graduated, found a really great consulting job, got married, left the crazy demands … (5 comments)

just for fun: LOL Friday--Two Really Funny Videos out of Virginia Universities - 08/12/11 06:56 AM
My oldest goes to school at the University of Virginia (UVA) and I am a James Madison University (JMU) alumni with another daughter following in my JMU footsteps, as a rising sophomore.

Each of these schools has a number of extremely talented acapella singing groups.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did and that they make you laugh out loud!
The first one if from AVP at UVA:

The next one is by The MadisonProject at JMU. It references the beloved Quad at JMU (keep an ear out for reference to Kissing Rock, … (1 comments)
