loudoun county: What does YOUR Loudoun County, Virginia Look Like? - 11/14/16 08:48 PM
I  had the opportunity, last night, to attend one of the Envision Loudoun meetings . If you have not heard about this effort, these meetings are being held around Loudoun County in November and December to get public input about the Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan.
If you are a Loudoun County resident, or even if you work there, like I do, this is a great opportunity to have your priorities heard.
When you arrive, they will ask you to use a sticker to identify where you live and where you work on the map. This is an effort to ensure that they are … (0 comments)

loudoun county: Exploring Leesburg, Virgina - 12/02/11 12:20 AM
If I did not live in Reston, Virginia, there is a pretty good chance I would live in Leesburg, Virginia.
For years, my children attended school in Leesburg, VA and I got a pretty good sense of the wonderful community of Leesburg. It has a great downtown area and some of the most beautiful old homes in the area (I have always wanted one of those great old homes!).
If you work in the District, living in Leesburg is not for the feint of heart. The commutes can be long, but there is bus service, the Dulles Greenway, and, if all … (2 comments)

loudoun county: Relocating? Give the Virginia Suburbs a Look - 03/08/10 09:04 AM
Forbes Magazine has come out with its list of the 25 Richest Counties. Loudoun County in Virginia tops the list. Fairfax County is 2nd. You are probably wondering why this would be a good thing--after all, don't higher incomes result in higher housing prices? Yes, undoubtedly they do, but they also result in a more stable economy, more services and better public schools.  Our real estate bubble was later than many other areas and our recovery is reported to have begun sooner. Our unemployment rate has consistently been lower than that of many other major metropolitan areas. The Bureau of Labor … (4 comments)

loudoun county: A Warm ActiveRain Welcome Back to Carol A. Kearney!!!! - 07/03/09 02:20 AM
Carol A. Kearney is back...and we are all thrilled to have her. Now let me be clear, she never went anywhere physically, but for the past year and half, she has been working with New York Life learning the insurance industry.  Sometimes you need to step away to realize what you have, and Carol is thrilled to be back working full time in Real Estate for Momentum Realty. Other than this brief break, Carol has been an active Realtor for nearly 25 years.
When I went back to work after staying home for 8 years with my children, I was lucky … (0 comments)

loudoun county: July 4,2009: Fireworks Displays in Northern Virginia - 07/01/09 05:19 AM
With July upon us, it is time to start figuring out your plans to celebrate Independence Day.  One of my favorite places to watch fireworks on the 4th is from a boat on the Potomac River. The Potomac provides an exceptional place from which to view the Fireworks from the National Mall in Washington D.C. The local PBS radio station plays classical music to accompany the display and you can hear it coming from all of the boats anchored on the river. If you haven't had the opportunity to do that, it really is a great experience.
If you are looking … (1 comments)

loudoun county: Welcome to the DC Golf Scene, Mr. Trump! - 05/04/09 02:00 AM

Last Thursday Lowes Island Club became  the newest Country Club in the Donald Trump repertoire of golf clubs: Trump National Washington D.C.
The former Lowes Island Club,  was previously owned by Chevy Chase bank. It is located in Loudoun County and sits on the banks of the Potomac River in Potomac Falls (still called Sterling by some), Virginia. What makes this club unique is that it has 2 full sized golf courses. Both run along the banks of the Potomac River, although the courses have never taken advantage of the spectacular location.
Chevy Chase determined that with all of the … (0 comments)

loudoun county: Dulles Area Association of Realtors (DAAR) Recognized for Generosity - 01/26/09 07:44 AM
This weekend I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the D.C. Examiner and saw that in their 1/25/09 column called, "Brightest Lights of the Week," the Dulles Area Association of Realtors (DAAR) was recognized for their continued generosity  in giving money to local shelter-based charities. This tradition, which has been in place for 16 years, was continued despite the drastic slowdown in the local real estate market.  The money was raised at the DAAR annual auction. Congratulations DAAR Members and Staff for your continued support of the members of our community who most need a little extra help right now!

loudoun county: Understanding Local Roads: The Dulles Toll Road/Access Road/Greenway - 01/22/09 03:58 AM
There are a lot of wonderful things about living on the Virginia side of the D.C. Metro area; navigating and understanding the road system is not always one of them. I thought I would begin a short series explaining some of the more complicated roads. Where possible, I will also provide a brief history of how we got to this point of confusion!Last night I was on the way to my son's basketball practice when I drove by a sign for the Dulles Toll Road. Underneath that sign was another sign for the Dulles Access Road. The distinction to me is … (1 comments)

loudoun county: What Are Your Favorite House Features? - 01/03/09 05:42 AM
This morning in the Washington Post Real Estate section, there was an article by Katherine Salant entitled, Staying Power, We revisit two inventive '90s subdivisions. Have their design Innovations held up?  (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2009/01/02/ST2009010201510.html)
Besides my interest in all local real estate stories, I was particularly interested in this one, since both of the neighborhoods are in my local business market.
It got me thinking about the many, many houses I have see over the years and what some of the best--and worst--features have been.
One of the best I have seen is one of the reasons I bought my own house; the … (0 comments)

loudoun county: Really Important if you Live in Loudoun County, Virginia - 09/25/08 08:49 AM
If you are a Realtor® or  homeowner in Loudoun County, you should know about a proposal before the Board of Supervisors related to non-conventional septic systems.  It could affect your land values. The following Call to Action  was prepared by Christine Windle of the Dulles Area Association of Realtors®. I think this is an important issue and offered to post it on my ActiveRain blog for additional exposure.
BACKGROUND On Tuesday, October 7th, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will vote on a proposed ordinance to restrict the use of new non-conventional septic systems for five years, with few exceptions. Rural … (0 comments)

loudoun county: Fairfax County is a Great Place for a Self-Proclaimed Book Worm! - 08/27/08 03:50 AM
Back in middle and high school, I tried to hide my tendency to turn to books as friends.  Once in college, it became 'cool' to love to read and I was able to embrace my true love of reading.
As a young girl I spent hours and hours at small branch of the Fairfax Country library at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston. That branch has since closed--to be replaced by the Reston Museum--but I can still remember the thrill of the hunt when I would leave the heat of a warm summer day to enter the cool quiet of the library.

loudoun county: Leesburg Canine Country Club - 06/25/08 08:42 AM
Thanks to Lauren Shifflet, Owner of Leesburg Canine Country Club, for getting in touch with me about my recent Reston Blog, http://activerain.com/blogsview/560718/What-are-my-Favorite. Lauren commented that she had many great memories of living in Reston.
She also mentioned that she left Reston, fairly recently, to start a new venture, The Leesburg Canine Country Club.  I am always happy to pass on information about different recreational activities in the area.  TLCCC is an off-leash social club that meets at Falcon Ridge Recreation Center. This one sounds like great entertainment for both you and your 4-pawed pals!
