One of the most beautiful times of the year in Washington D.C. is the emergence of the Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin. So beautiful, in fact, that the city hosts an entire festival around the event. Tourists come from all over the world to see these gorgeous trees and to enjoy the parade of events that take place in and around the Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Post Weekend section has created a wonderful map of clusters of Cherry Trees in and around the metro area. parade: Reston Holiday Parade and Events: Friday, November 27 - 11/23/09 02:47 PM
If you happen to be sticking around this weekend, what better way to spend Black Friday (we all know the alternative, and that is not for me) than at the Reston Towncenter Holiday Parade? This will be the 19th annual parade, and based on the fact that my oldest will turn 20 soon, I am fairly sure we have been to most of them! parade: Herndon HS Homecoming Brings out the Community in all of Us - 10/20/08 10:03 AM
This weekend was the annual Herndon High School Homecoming.
 
For as long as I can remember, this has been a community event.  I am a graduate of Herndon High and now I have a daughter there (the High School draws kids from both Herndon and Reston).The formula has not changed in the 30 years that I have watched this weekend take place. It is a combination of tradition, school spirit and a celebration of the community.
 
The whole week was Spirit Week at the high school, replete with daily dress-up assignments and a pre-game Pep Rally.
