reston: How I Know Spring Has Arrived to Reston, Virginia - 04/26/12 04:15 AM
When we bought our Reston, Virginia home, almost 11 years ago, we made a lot of changes, including moving and editing the landscaping. This one plant, however, was one of my favorites. As a single specimen, we had to find a place where it would get the right sun conditions, yet still look like it belonged. We found the perfect spot, and each Spring when it blooms, I know that Spring has finally arrived! Yesterday, I took this photo. I guess Spring has officially arrived to Reston, Virginia!

reston: Where Am I in Reston, Virginia? North Point Pavilion - 03/22/12 07:10 AM
This is the North Hills Picnic Pavilion. Located in the heart of North Point, in Reston Virginia, this pavilion is used by residents throughout Reston. I have attended birthday parties, graduation parties, end-of-year class parties and seen corporate events hosted there. It is a great place for a barbecue. There is a sunny field right next to it with a small tot-lot. It really lends itself to large groups, while providing shelter in the event that a little rain falls on your party. There are portable bathrooms, electricity and water available. It is available to Reston Association members for $150 and

reston: Naming the Silver Line Metro Stations in Northern Virginia - 02/21/12 10:53 AM
It has taken years, but the Washington D.C. Metro is finally being extended West from Rt. 66 through Tysons Corner, Reston and Herndon. The battles have been many, over funding, raised or buried tracks, station locations and more. The latest discussion is over naming the stations. If you have any interest in weighing in on the station names, this is your chance! The Metro Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors are at odds over the names of the new stations. Frankly, I would love to see the public weigh in and let these folks know what we would like

reston: December 2011 Market Report for Reston, VA 20190 - 01/20/12 11:33 AM
Here is the December 2011 market activity report for Reston, VA, 20190 zip code (North of the Toll Road, south of Baron Cameron Avenue, includes Lake Anne and the Reston Town Center). December is a notoriously slow month for real estate in the Northern Virginia area. This December did not behave any differently. In fact, this December was even slower than December of 2010 in the 20190 zip code--and in all of Reston (click here for the 20194 Market Report and for the 20191 Market Report). While consumer confidence is slowly regaining its foothold, buyers are still reluctant to move forward. Retail sales saw growth in November and December

reston: MotorCycle Santa Spreads Christmas Cheer in Reston & Herndon, VA - 12/15/11 12:26 PM
Last year, around this time, my daughter and I spotted Motorcycle Santa on the Fairfax County Parkway, in Reston, VA. She snapped this picture from my Blackberry, while I kept my eyes on the road: Last Saturday, I spotted him again, this time on Reston Parkway. He was blasting music from the speakers on his bike (All I want for Christmas is You). Two years in a row? Who is this guy and is he the same one from last year? Today, I saw an article in the Herndon Patch, Motorcycle-Riding Santa Claus Brings Holiday Fun to Local Schools. Now I am not

I grew up in Reston, VA, swore I would never come back (who wants to return to their hometown after college? Not me!), and, instead I came back almost immediately. Since then, I have married, raised my kids (mostly--the youngest is 15), owned 4 houses over 24 years and loved the time I have spent here. So what keeps me here? Here are 10 of the things I love about Reston, VA: The People: I have wonderful neighbors and fantastic friends who have all settled here in Reston. reston: Sellers: Price Your Home with Clear Intent - 10/06/11 07:50 AM
The Northern Virginia real estate market is not dead. Ask any Realtor who pays attention, and they will tell you that homes are being listed and homes are going under contract. It is not what it was, but it is 'alive.' There is, however, a segment of the market that has no pulse. These are the homes where the homeowners are unwilling, or unable, to take the advice of the professional Realtor and set a reasonable and realistic sales price. Buyers are looking for a deal. They may not be able to get the deal they hope for, since many homes

reston: When Mother Nature Interferes with ActiveRain Meetups! - 09/09/11 08:21 AM
Yesterday was the Northern Virginia, D.C., Maryland ActiveRain Meetup. Cindy Jones took on this one and organized a great event...so I am told; I could not make it due to the flooding in our area. I got back from an association meeting around 2:00 p.m. yesterday just as the buckets of rain began pouring down on our area. I watched as it continued (and continued and continued). Even on a good day, I was going to need to leave between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. to arrive in Shirlington (Arlington, VA) by 5:00 p.m.. Around 3:30 p.m., I made the call that

The United States Karate Center, located on Isaac Newton Square in Reston, will offer the second self-defense course of the summer on Saturday, August 13 from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.I was fortunate enough to participate in the first course organized by Master John Thomas. The first course was designed for college students to teach them how to be safe as they travel around campus. This course will have the same sort of emphasis with some additional information added. It is appropriate, however, for
