One of my most popular blogs ever was about texting, A Very Sad Last Tweet.
Since I wrote this blog, texting has become even more prevalent. Distracted driving, of which texting is a major contributor, is a huge safety problem. Car manufacturers have come up with a system to help minimized distracted driving from texting, according to the article in today's Washington Post, Automakers embrace hands-free text-messaging technology. The question becomes, however, does this simply endorse a bad habit and make it easier to drive while distracted, or does it serve the public by making it less likely that drivers will text while driving? Have you heard of 'ST&D?' And no, it is not some sort of unmentionable condtion... I read today that New York has passed a new anti-texting law called 'ST&D' (Stop Texting and Drive). It is now considered a primary offense to be texting and driving, and if an officer suspects you doing it, you will be stopped and ticketed. No other violation has to occur; suspicion of texting and driving can get you pulled over and ticketed. Texting used to be for teenagers. Slowly, parents of teenagers got into the mix. Eventually, even the grandparents of teengers realized the difference in response to a text versus a voice message (most teenagers never answer phones or check voicemail).
Today, text messaging is a legitimate communications tool and an important business tool. If you aren't using text messaging in your business, it is time to reeavaluate.

texting: Why You Should Never Text and Drive--a Reminder - 03/23/11 05:10 PM
Every once in awhile, I think there is value in reminding ourselves how small things can have big consequences. This documentary, by AT&T, is well worth watching and sharing. It is a grim reminder of why texting while driving should NEVER happen.
I will be sharing it with my teenagers...and keeping these images in my own head. There is nothing so important that it can't wait until you are at a safe place.
Please drive safely and put the phone away.

If you are a news scanner, like I am, you probably saw that Dr. Frank Ryan (Plastic Surgeon to the stars) was killed on Monday, August 16, 2010 when his car drove over a cliff near his home in Los Angeles. At the time of the first report, the article I read said that Dr. Ryan did not drink or use drugs. It turns out now, however, that he was Tweeting about his dog at the time of the crash (Heidi Montag Plastic Surgeon Frank Ryan Texting Before Fatal Crash).
