The holiday season atOatlands Plantation, Leesburg, Virginia begins November 22, 2010. This special annual event, which runs through December 30th,  runs  Mon.-Sat. 10am to 5pm, Sun. 1pm to 5pm. One of my favorite local events is the annual Greater Reston Arts Center Collector's Choice Exhitbition and Raffle. This is a really exciting event for art lovers and collectors of all levels and experience. This year the event will take place on Sunday, September 19, 2010.Each participant purchases a ticket for $150. Monday the weather is supposed to be great, so make plans to get out and enjoy good music and good wine (and some beer, too) at the Herndon, Virginia Labor Day Jazz and Wine Festival.
A sampling of the wineries that will be present include: Peaks of Otter Winery, North Gate Vineyards, Cooper Vineyards, and  Barboursville Vineyards.
The festival will be held on the town green. There is an admission fee of $15  which includes samples of wine and beer or $8 for admission only. Age 12 and younger are free.

Pre-season football continues tonight with a match-up between two local favorites: The Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens . Kick off is at 7:00 p.m. at FedEx Field.  If you are planning to go, make plans to leave early...the traffic to FedEx Field is often nightmarish, but will hopefully be better since there is no rush-hour or early morning beach traffic to contend with! Last night was the kick-off of the annual Herndon Festival in Herndon, Virginia. Although the evening started out with a thunderstorm, all was not lost as the clouds, thunder and lightning made it through by about 6:00 pm.
 
It is a great way to reconnect with your community through a good, old fashioned family festival. Rides, games, prizes, vendors, food, entertainment...what more could you want? There are three stages with entertainment, Fireworks on Thursday night (if you heard banging last night, now you know what it was) and Saturday night, 10K and 5K races and much, much more!
