The day after Thanksgiving (Friday, November 29, 2013) kicks off the Holiday Celebration at Reston Town Center in Reston, Virginia.    The festivities begin at 8 a.m. with the opening of the stores. Get over there early and let your kids compete in the Gingerbread Man Mile (how many times did I read the words 'Run,run as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man,' to my kids?). The Reston Town Center Ice Rink opened at the Reston Town Center Pavilion this weekend (11/9/13).  This kicks off the skating season at RTC.
If you haven't gone skating at the Town Center, you should put it on your calendar.  The hours of the rink are (from the website):

Tomorrow is the annual Reston Home Tour!  This once-a-year event is the major fund raiser for the Reston Historic Trust.  The tour runs from 10 am to 5 pm.
If you buy a ticket to the tour, you will have the opportunity to view 5 private homes and  stop at Bow Tie Cinemas for a viewing and discussion with the filmmakers of a new film about Reston that is soon to be released (viewings at 11 and 2).

Many federal employees got a special gift from President Obama last week when he gave them an extra holiday by closing the Federal Government on Christmas Eve.
If you are left looking for something fun to do today, December 24, 2012, why not head to National Harbor and greet Santa as he water-skis on the Potomac River? This year he will be joined by his reindeer, as well as the Grinch, Frosty the Snowman and, of course, Santa's Elves.

Saturday, Decmeber 1, 2012 (tomorrow!) is the Wolf Trap Family Sing-A-Long! This event is a great way to get your family in the spirit of the holidays.
Featuring the United States Marine Corp band and choir and vocal groups from the metropolitan Washington area, the Sing-A-Long features Christmas, seasonal and Hanukkah songs.
The Sing-A-Long begins  at 4:00 p.m. , at the  Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, 1551 Trap Road, Vienna, Va. Best of all, it is free!

The day after Thanksgiving, November 23 this year, is the official kick-off to the holiday season at Reston Town Center in Reston, Virginia.

The fun begins with Black Friday shopping at 8 a.m.  There is a Gingerbread Man Mile, for the kids, that begins at 8:00 a.m., too (what better way to work off some of that food and energy leftover from Thanksgiving?).
Santa, who appears in the 11:00 a.m. parade,  will begin doing visits and photos at 12:30.
At 6:00 p.m., the Christmas Tree will be lit and there will be a Sing Along.

Since it's opening, Reston Town Center Ice Rink has been a community favorite! I took my children there for Girls Scout events, Boy Scout events, club outings, sporting team outings and just to meet friends and get some exercise.   Located in the Pavilion at Reston Town Center, the ice rink opened for the season on November 1, 2012. It will remain open, weather permitting, until the second week in March, 2013.    There are rental skates, and other skating supplies, available in the Skate Shop.
