virginia: How I Know Spring Has Arrived to Reston, Virginia - 04/26/12 04:15 AM
When we bought our Reston, Virginia home, almost 11 years ago, we made a lot of changes, including moving and editing the landscaping.  This one plant, however, was one of my favorites. As a single specimen, we had to find a place where it would get the right sun conditions, yet still look like it belonged.
We found the perfect spot, and each Spring when it blooms, I know that Spring has finally arrived! Yesterday, I took this photo. 
I guess Spring has officially arrived to Reston, Virginia!

This is the North Hills Picnic Pavilion. Located in the heart of North Point, in Reston Virginia, this pavilion is used by residents throughout Reston. I have attended birthday parties, graduation parties, end-of-year class parties and seen corporate events hosted there.
It is a great place for a barbecue. There is a sunny field right next to it with a small tot-lot. It really lends itself to large groups, while providing shelter in the event that a little rain falls on your party. There are portable bathrooms, electricity and water available.

There are a couple of changes in the law for 2012 that Virginians need to know about, or may be interested in.
An important one for Northern Virginia residents is the increased toll at the main plaza of the Dulles Toll Road. The new rate is $1.50, up from $1.25. The other on/off-ramps will remain at $.75.   Other laws include stricter rules for Abortion Clinics and a prison reform law that will require that 10% of money earned by inmates be put into an account so that there is  money available to them when they leave prison.   Another new law allows new mothers the option to receive a … (2 comments)

If I did not live in Reston, Virginia, there is a pretty good chance I would live in Leesburg, Virginia.
For years, my children attended school in Leesburg, VA and I got a pretty good sense of the wonderful community of Leesburg. It has a great downtown area and some of the most beautiful old homes in the area (I have always wanted one of those great old homes!).

It is that time of year again...pack the chairs and head out for a Friday night of music under the stars in Herndon, Virginia.
The Friday Night Live Concert Series takes place each Friday night on the Town Green in Downtown Herndon. My home has been under contract for the past month. Yesterday, my purchaser told me they will be transferred in the next two years and wants to get out of the contract. I can't believe this! Later this morning, I have an appointment to donate blood. The blood drive is being held at the Reston, Virginia YMCA and is sponsored by the American Red Cross. Giving blood is an easy and, relatively painless, way to make a very big difference. There is always a great need for all blood types. I try to give every 12 weeks. As an added benefit, I get a check of my blood pressure each time I donate and it is recorded on my donor card. There is a wonderful neighborhood in Reston, Virginia located North of the Dulles Toll Road in North Point. It is tree lined street with a wide road, cul-de-sacs, sidewalks and gracious colonials.
