real estate: Hubba Bubba…And the case of the Curb UN-Appeal. - 11/13/06 05:02 AM
When I first passed this neighbour’s house, I nearly went off the road. My first thought was “Yikes, what are they thinking?”. Then thinking better of the situation, I realized that no one would choose to paint their home this colour – would they?Recalling when I once painted a room a deep wine colour, the recommended primer was a Pepto Bismol pink. I couldn’t get the real colour up fast enough. It must be just that, a tinted primer for a rich red (mmm…maybe…Benjamin Moore’s Lyons Red CC-68) or burgundy (the Radicchio CC-32 would work well) these would look sharp against the … (17 comments)

real estate: The cost of Home Staging - 10/25/06 02:27 AM
On behalf of all home stagers, I'm conducting an informal poll on what real estate agents believe our services cost.
We would love to hear from all agents on Active Rain.
A 2 hour consultation would consist of:
- Room by room review
- Specific recommendations provided in writing giving the homeowner an Action Plan to implement our recommendation
- Hands on help to arrange mantles, de-clutter shelves and reposition furniture.
- Recommendation for paint colors and flooring if required.
- Supply resource contacts for painters, handymen, storage companies, pet sitting, etc.

Also be sure to let us know what area you are from because that … (12 comments)

real estate: "Propping" Up Your Business... - 09/13/06 02:58 AM
I have started building a “prop” library but I’m starting off smaller with a more cost-effective solution. I decided to begin with purchasing accessories to help add personality to rooms without homeowners incurring additional costs.Smaller items such as dinnerware, glasses and placemats are great for creating an inviting kitchen. Mirrors, simple printed artwork, accent pillows, candles, colourful towels and luxurious bathroom products are also great items to have on hand.Being the frugal shopper that I am, I look for items that are on sale. Great places to look include Pier 1, Linens n’ Things, IKEA and Home Sense.I store these items … (5 comments)

real estate: A master bedroom should feel like a master bedroom. - 09/12/06 02:30 AM
When selling a home, remember that a master bedroom should convey the feeling of relaxation, peace and a get-away for prospective buyers.Simple steps such as removing children’s artwork and toys, finding a new home for laundry and ironing, and giving it a fresh coat of paint, can go a long way for creating that retreat feeling that is often sought after. You can see in the first photograph that the children’s artwork and plain walls do nothing to invite a buyer to linger in the room. But after giving the walls a coat of paint, and changing the artwork (using prints that were … (11 comments)
