Local Senior Center Planned for Oceanside, Ca. - 02/28/11 11:00 AM
San Diego, Ca based developer Pacifica Cos. LLC has purchased 6.71 acres of land in Oceanside for a planned senior residence community. Pacific paid $1.6 million for the site near route 76 west of Melrose Dr.
The senior community for which plan have been approved will include five residence buildings accommodating 332 beds within 180 living units. The project also includes a clubhouse, pool and spa meeting area, pedestrian walkway and an underground parking garage.

Local Oceanside Mission plans food distribution, which will be held on Thursday, 2/24/2011. Bread of Life Mission plans on a its monthly food distribution @ Bread of Life Mission in Oceanside, .
Pastor Steve Bassett director of the mission---said that they will be able to help 350 families. The mission is receiving the food from the San Diego Food Bank which is buying the supplies with a one year grant from the Oceanside Foundation. The mission receives about 12 to 15 pallets each containing about 1,000 pounds of food each month from the Food Bank.

92173, San Ysidro zip code saw the biggest year over year increase in home price. The median rose 112% in January to $209,000 on 14 sales. For zip codes with combined sales of 10 or more, downstown San Diego had the highest number of sales in January at 67 but that number was down from 86 a year ago in 2010.
Tierrasanta saw the largest median price drop falling from $610,000 in January 2010, to $375,000 this year 2011. a 38.5% decrease. The median price for all San Diego County homes fell to $304,000 from $333,000 in December or 8.7%.

Three flower like sculptures made mostly of metal tubing now line the lawn outside Carlsbad's Georgina cole Library.
The artwork,createdby Carlsbad artist Fritzie Urquhart, was moved from a nearby scupture garden and placed in front o fthe library more than a week ago.

Civic Center Library In Oceanside, Ca. Re-Opening March 2, 2011. - 02/17/11 07:05 AM
Work on the Oceanside Public Library Civic Center Branch's extensive renovation is scheduled to be completed March 2, library officials said.
The $533,000 renovation calls for new carpeting and furniture, a coffee area with new seating and a more open layout. Crews are finishing the lobby, including installing a new sliding glass door, and carpeting the children's room and reinstalling the shelving that was removed during the carpeting. Crews will also lay new floor tiles in the atrium.

A recent survey sanctioned by the city of Carlsbad found that most Carlsbad residents enjoy living in the city of Carlsbad and more than three fourths were confident in the city's government.
This survey was conducted by BW Research Partnership, Inc. They called 1,000 residents - including councilman Mark Packard who said he identified himself as a member of the City council.

San Diego Zoo proudly announced the arrive of the newest member of the San Diego Zoo family a "baby hippo". 
Two of the San Diego Zoo's hippos welcomed a baby hippopotamus around 11:30 a.m. Mother and father Funani and Otis have lived together in the Zoo's hippo habitat for two years.
The baby arrived after two hours of labor, which is generally common for hippos. Birthday is January 26th, 2011.
The baby hippo has been on display since its birth, visitors can sneak a peek at it in the exhibit with its mother.

International Regatta To Sail On San Diego Bay March 2011. - 02/10/11 08:55 AM
San Diego Bay will be the site of an international sailing competition called the RC 44 regattas that will run March 2-6, 2011.

The event is drawing 14 identical 44-foot-long boats, each with its own crew of eight people. It is part of an overall series of six regattas held in cities around the world.
This year's RC 44 regattas were held in such places:

Venice, Italy:

This coming fall's freshman class at San Marcos High will be attending no less four different campuses during there four years in high school. The 50 year old San Marcos High School will demolished and rebuilt as the first project funded by Proposition K the $287 million bond measure passed in November. Students would begin the fall 2011 semester on the current campus on West San Marcos Boulevard, move next winter to a temporary campus a few miles away and return two years after that when the new high school is complete,. Moving students off campus during construction meets three goals:

Sea World San Diego plans to introudce a new Shamu show during Memorial Day weekend that will highlight education & conservation in a bid to inspire guests to help keep the planet healthy, the parks officials s recently disclosed.
