I have 2 teenagers at home. I'm not sure if that makes me crazy or invincible. One of the biggest lessons we are trying to teach our kids is about "respect." It seems like almost every situation we or they are involved with can be simplified with a quick lesson about "respect." My kids are so used to this discussion that they refer to it affectionately now as the "R" lecture. I often wish I could give the "R" lecture to friends, family, clients and colleagues.
• If you need information, please ask for it. Don't demand it.
• If you get asked for information, please deliver it when expected. Don't procrastinate.
• If you know a client it working with another lender or Realtor, please respect that. Don't pretend you don't know.
• If friends tell you something, please keep it confidential. Don't gossip about it.
• If you are reminding your kids to do their chores, please ask them (maybe a little more assertively, especially if it's for the 3rd time). Don't order them. I have to remind myself of their selective hearing.
- Our reminders can go on and on...
It seems to me that "Respect" and the Golden Rule go hand in hand, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." We can all use a little reminder!
