A phone call from my advertisement (even though we all know print media does not work) asking when I could take a look at the property, evaluate what needs to be done and possibly getting it listed.
I liked the caller, and I liked the neighborhood....a quaint historic area. We worked it out for that same evening so I could see the house and meet with them. Right away, I found the small but charming brick home absolutely adorable. From the (8 comments)
Some years ago, I took a listing that was very much like one described by Alan May minus the baby diapers. In addition to stray animals, they had stray people. It was a referral from a friend and they needed my help! Stuff was piled high and you could not walk through the rooms. Dirty would have been a compliment and these were bright educated people with professional degrees. Now this was a real challenge. How do I sell this dirty messy house? First, I told them to paint the dining room. It was packed floor to ceiling (71 comments)

Anyone who knows me has read about my friend, mentor, publisher and confidant...Peg Silloway.
We have known each other for well over 20 years. We met at NAWBO -National Association of Women's Business Owners- back when I was a porcelain artist and she was a CPA. We liked each other from the beginning. Over time we changed places...career wise. Peg went back into the arts, doing stained glass and then writing and you all know I went into real estate...HomeRome Realty. I don't think we have missed getting (29 comments)
When Life Gives You Lemons.... - 06/25/11 01:42 PM
In Baltimore Ice cream and Snowballs are a couple of ways to keep cool in our warm humid weather. We've found another...an indoor lemonade stand. When Life gives you Lemons ...Squeeze 'em. That's what Phillippe, Morgan and Claudia do. These entrepreneur kids have set up a stand in their family's owned business. They came up with the slogan.
Do you recognize that puffer above in the Fish Tank ? Here is Claudia and Phillippe at One World Lemonade. When you enter Poulet, these youngsters offer you a free sample of their homemade refreshing (19 comments)
There are different types of Snowballs ...especially in the Baltimore area. There are the winter ones like these that most people would like to forget. There are the summer ones that are native to Baltimore. In fact many have never seen or heard of them. This is what a Baltimore snowball looks like. You can add marshmallow cream or soft serve ice cream in layers in this cup. I like them plain.
Do you have snowballs in your area? =============================================

It's Ninety Degrees ...But There Are Snowballs in Baltimore. - 06/23/11 10:52 PM
It's ninety degrees...but there are snowballs in Baltimore..not this kind of snowball from last winter. These snowballs grow on trees and bushes and produce some beautiful flowers with colors ranging from white, to pink, to blue, to purple. I have heard of red but have not seen them. These bluish, purple or pink flowers add a color you don't normally see in the flower garden. Another name for hydrangeas are snowballs, and we have some beauties in the Baltimore area. I snapped these photos at my Gardenview property that is now under contract.
Received this email from a former client: ''You sold a home for us about 19 years ago in Randallstown. I just became a Realtor® in W.V. and I have a client ..in the Navy... looking to rent ....she will be working at John Hopkins for the next 2 years. Could I refer her to you?'' I picked up the phone and called. In no time we were caught up. I was pretty new back then but I remembered Angie and I remembered the house.
I remember the homes sold for her brother in law, her mother (30 comments)
Erica Brought Roses for Daddy ...and He Loved Them! - 06/21/11 10:18 PM
Usually TLH, The Lovely Husband brings home the flowers, but not this time. It was Father's day and our daughter, Erica, knowing how much her dad likes roses... brought over two dozen long stemmed roses. I arranged them both in short vases. Lee loved them! The red ones are on the coffee table right in front of his favorite TV watching spot.
The red roses look pretty all alone.
The white roses look great with my porcelain bowl made many years ago.
Quite a few posts have been written with reasons your listings won't sell. Alan May has blogged this subject several times. I am here to say... There is Another Reason Your House Has Not Sold! The Right Buyer has not seen it! When asked why the house has not sold or why it's been on the market so long...most people will say "It has to be the price". Everything will sell at the right price. List em right and they will sell. Many times this is true, especially if you have, cookie cutter homes, in the same neighborhood with comps (59 comments)

Have you ever been to a client's home who was overwhelmed with the paperwork, with the bills, with their taxes? They are embarrassed to tell anyone because.. who would understand?..who could help? It can be stressful to someone who has always been meticulous with their filing and banking with no help from anyone. This disarray of filing might be due to an illness, dementia, getting older, loss of interest or the passing of a spouse who took care of these necessities. How can you help? How can someone who does not know you come in and figure out the hoards of paperwork?
I was in an all day session at our board yesterday. Time was limited...calls and messages were only taken at breaks. One call came in that was very convincing. To make the best use of this time..I took a break while on this call. This telemarketer would not stop with his canned speech...even when I asked him for the bottom line. "What will all your promises cost me?" He replied with ''only $300 a month and you will be better than..... yada yada yada.'' Then I said, "Please listen. (29 comments)

A Calming Experience...Watching a Fish Tank - 06/15/11 09:48 PM
Recently wrote about Signs of Summer in Baltimore. These photos were taken on that same evening. No we did not go downtown to our wonderful National Aquarium. These aquatic beauties were in the fish tank at Poulet in Green Spring Station near Tarks, also in the same shopping area. I probably was a bit rude to our dear friends...I could not help but snap away at these fascinating sea creatures while everyone was enjoying the delicious hand dipped ice cream. Watching fish can lower blood pressure and be a calming experience..like these fish at 14 Timber Way.
Buyers Need a Home! Are You Selling? - 06/14/11 10:01 PM
This young family needs a home! Their home went under contract and will be closing next month. With all the media talk about it being a buyer's market and how hard it is to sell a home....they listed their home with me and voila it sold! Now we are trying to move them into the Summit Chase neighborhood. No problem...it's a buyer's market. Well not so fast. There are no homes on the market that meet their needs. They really want an end of group with a garage. We have been out looking at lots of other areas and lots of (30 comments)

Signs of Summer in Baltimore - 06/12/11 09:43 PM
This is what the signs of Summer look like...hand dipped ice cream. Anyone care to guess where this photo was taken? Bet someone in Baltimore knows. I will come back with more photos and more hints a bit later. A special way to enjoy an evening with friends...try one of the many ice cream places. It is fun and conversation flows easily over a dip or cone of ice cream.
This is not the first time I have written about Ice Cream in the Baltimore area!

My friend Karen Bernetti wrote a post recently about the stress of selling. When you couple the sale of a home with another life altering change such as divorce, you increase that stress even more. I do a counseling session with all my sellers giving them a heads up of this potential emotional roller coaster.
In the past these are a few articles about this same subject. There is Stress Selling a Home...How Do You Handle This Stress? Moving with Children Triumphant Survivors In most cases the situation goes well. Only once did we have to separate (11 comments)
Original owners have taken such good care and pride of ownership shows in this four bedroom 3.5 Bath Center Hall Colonial. I have tried to capture this well maintained Willow Glen North home located off Old Court Rd in Pikesville, MD. Inside and out, this home is beautiful. Manicured landscaping and terraced fenced back yard showcases the heated in ground pool with hot tub.

A Car Wash the Rome Way! - 06/08/11 01:22 AM
A car wash the Rome way! My car is not new but I love everything about it. It's been a few years since you heard about this special car! Thanks to one of my favorite little guys, Stephen Tann, who named The Chocolate Car!
I have found a better way to keep the chocolate car clean, other than backing it out of the garage when it rains. Let's call it a Type E thing as explained in my book Real Estate the Rome Way. That better way is a young man named Scott Hankin who comes to (27 comments)
My newest listing, located at 14 Timber Way Ct. Reisterstown, MD 21136, is nestled on a wooded 3 1/2 acre lot at the end of a cul de sac. This is another special home and one of my favorites. It is a large contemporary ranch with lots of light, high ceilings and shows pride of ownership. This home has been beautifully maintained by the original owners and is a pleasure to show. Arriving at the private driveway, enter through the double door garage where there is room to park FOUR cars inside. Lots of space for guest parking. The front is a nature lover's dream..lots (16 comments)
Living at 14 Timber Way Could Be Good For Your Health! - 06/07/11 12:48 AM
If you lived at 14 Timber Way you could enjoy the sights of 3 1/2 wooded landscaped acres and and enjoy the sounds of a lovely waterfall. They say watching a fish tank can lower your blood pressure. I think watching these fish and all the surrounding beauty would do an even better job.
There are various studies showing that those who have spent a little time each day watching fish, have greatly reduced stress and blood pressure levels. If that is the case, then living at 14 Timber Way would be good for your health.
Here is one of my favorite areas in Baltimore, also known as Pill Hill and part of the Mount Washington area of the city. Easy access to downtown via I 83 Jones Falls Expressway. This certainly does not look like a city location with all its lush wooded greenery.

Tarks was so close... Bridget, Kathleen and myself decided to stop by and celebrate Kathleen's new home. Tarks, located at Greenspring Station right at the belway and I-83, is friendly, elegant and we were immediately welcomed by all the staff. On this 100 degree Baltimore day, it was pleasantly cool in this elegant restaurant. We could have eaten outside but chose the chill of the refreshing air conditioning.

Today we had the inspections on my new listing at 3506 Gardenview Rd. in Stevenson, MD. I say inspections..plural because there was more than one. The main inspection was done by AAA and included a termite and swimming pool inspection. The buyers chose this company because they had experience, were full service, take major credit cards and do a computer generated report on site. They are also available 7 days a week...not very common these days.
Another company came in to do the septic inspection. They have a (13 comments)
Glad you asked. All four of us met because of ActiveRain. Some time ago I wrote a post...Who Says Baltimore, Maryland Condos are Only For the Old Folks? ...a post read by Kathleen who was considering a condo purchase. Her Google search kept coming up with me and my condo listings. Kathleen said at the settlement table today "...every time I Googled a condo..Margaret Rome came up." So she figured I knew something about these properties and (26 comments)
This is one of our favorite restaurants located in the "Pink Shopping Center" in Owings Mills. We go during the week, we go at off hours, we go for lunch or we go for dinner. Whenever we go, we are always treated with the the same warm welcome. Right away we are seated and brought a fresh cabbage salad to start and, of course, the fried won-tons with sweet sauce and hot mustard. I would hope we make our clients feel as welcome!
