real estate the rome way: Personal and Unique The Rome Way - 02/26/22 12:12 AM
This month's challenge is to tell how our unique experiences have influenced our life and work perspectives.
* Where were you born?
I was born in Danville, Virginia, attended George Washington High School, and moved to Baltimore to pursue my nursing career.
* What was your upbringing?
My parents owned a restaurant and delicatessen open seven days a week. My father was a diabetic, and I gave him insulin shots. He died of his first heart attack at forty-nine. At eight years old, I knew that I wanted to be a nurse!
Mother ran the business opening from six in the morning until nine … (23 comments)

real estate the rome way: This Is Not Real Estate 101 - 11/17/19 07:47 AM
Looking for a Baltimore Home?
My homes come at all prices, from under two million to under a hundred thousand, but it is not about price.

It is about having the most interesting, the most one of a kind, unique properties and matching them up with the buyers.

My practice is not about getting a lot of houses on the market and selling them fast.
And it's NOT about doing the following:
Making a lot of pretty brochures to impress the sellers.
Price the homes lower than everything else.
Price it for a fast sale and multiple offers.
Neutralize so everyone will like it.
Put a lockbox on with … (5 comments)

real estate the rome way: Art And Books And Real Estate - 03/12/19 06:22 PM

March Active Rain Challenge - Book Smart because Books and art often go hand-in-hand.
Our friend Endre Barath, Jr. has suggested we take the photo above and write about it.
Seems pretty simple to me.
Just a few weeks ago, I went to one of my favorite places... The ACC show held each year right in Baltimore. Each year that I been on AR, I have not only gone to the show but have written a blog along with a video of what I thought were some of the highlights.
The spotlight was on the artists whose work I admired and also the most interesting people. Those that were … (13 comments)

real estate the rome way: Take A Page Out Of My Book...Be A Mentor - 01/20/18 07:52 PM

Take a page or two out of my book Real Estate The Rome Way and find a newer agent to help.
Give someone a hand and be a mentor.
As I say in the book, mentoring is one of the most rewarding parts of this business.
You don't have to  mentor in person.

real estate the rome way: Finding Time To Blog Each Day - 08/03/16 10:52 AM

When speaking with other professionals, I amquestioned about finding time to blog.

Here are a few of my responses:
'That's a nice looking outfit. When did you go shopping?''Love your new hair style, when did you go to the stylist?''You went out to lunch today. Where did you find time?'                           'Shiny car. When did you get it detailed?'

After a few of these questions, and a grin, my point is made.
You make time for what's important!
As mentioned on page 15 of my book  Real Estate the Rome Way  WIN is an  important acronym that works to focus my concentration. It stands for What's Important Now. The more you use these three words, the more you understand … (16 comments)

real estate the rome way: Winning Over Naysayers The Rome Way - 02/16/16 10:39 AM

Winning Over Naysayers The Rome Way

 Check out the ActiveRain Contest.
Just today I had an agent tell me I "better" take his offer because this property will"never" sell at the listing price. His " non written offer'' was  an email for a low price and a rent to own. I suggested he put in a formal offer if he wanted it presented.

When someone says it can't be done...please get out of my way.

This reminded me of examples others said I could or should not do.
Here are a few:

You can't drive a two door car and be a success in real estate.
You can't have a waiting list for sellers.
Print advertising … (13 comments)

real estate the rome way: Does It Always Have To Be About Real Estate? - 02/12/16 12:52 AM
Does It Always Have To Be About Real Estate?

Speaking with AR member Marco Giancola this morning, I discovered we have similarities. We have both  been REALTORS ®  for the past 26 years, we both enjoy learning and  we both enjoy connecting with other agents of all ages. Marco is interested in the recent course CNE that I took with another member .

And then I found out about Marco's  love of architechture and painting.
When asked if he shared this passion on ActiveRain,  his response...No, he feels he should keep the conversation to real estate.

To say I disagree would be an understatement. People want to … (25 comments)

real estate the rome way: How Did Your Radio Begin? - 06/18/15 12:49 AM
How Did Your Radio Show Begin?

Many years ago, 25 but who's counting , I met Terry Stafford at a WCR meeting. Terry  was president of Women's Council of Realtors ® and hosting a live radio show. That show was ALL ABOUT REAL ESTATE.

I used to listen and when I had something to say.. would call the show. Before long I was invited as an occasional guest. I offered to be on call 12-1 every Sunday should Terry need a backup host or coverage for holidays or personal time. Sometimes that call would come in after 11 am and I would be at the studio … (15 comments)

real estate the rome way: Where Do You Get Your Custom Stamps in Baltimore? - 06/09/12 02:08 PM
Where Do You Get Your Custom Stamps in Baltimore?

A few weeks ago we went to lunch at Tio Pepes in Baltimore to celebrate our anniversary. When leaving, I noticed AMS -Wm. Baumgarten across the street at 7 East Franklin St. What could I use in rubber stamp form? I would like to have a stamp with my logo, email, phone number and address for use when sending out my book  Real Estate the Rome Way. No problem...if you can think it, they can ink it. Now that would be a good slogan for … (7 comments)

real estate the rome way: Kick Butt Listing the Rome Way works! - 03/12/12 03:15 PM

Kick Butt Listing the Rome Way works for me! Being a solo broker and listing agent,  THE MOST AMAZING KICK BUTT LISTING PRESENTATION CONTEST was right up my alley. Since most  listings are from past clients and referrals, I have a steady stream of sellers to choose from and the luxury of interviewing the potential listings to make sure I want to take them on. I love what I do and give so much to each transaction, I need to make sure it is a good partnership. … (14 comments)

This is my favorite gift from a Best Friend.   What is my favorite gift? It is the one that arrived in the mail yesterday.
A very special book with twenty photos that chronicles a friendship over the past couple of decades. The front was done in my very special color..chocolate brown, and the opening photo was of Peg and me taken a few years ago.  Slowly flipping through the book, good times and memories flooded in. Within moments I was on the … (20 comments)

This is a perfect example of Agent to Agent Admiration and Appreciation.
In today's 'snail' mail I received a custom card made by Terri Camp. She took a copy of a magazine, that featured me, and made it the cover. Please take time to read her 'thank you' note and notice we both drive the same make car with branded license plates.
