Florida's Red Shouldered Hawk...... .....is a fairly common sight in Florida's wetland areas where small prey abounds.  I've been witness to this bird munching on a..........well.....a snake, which I shared in this post DinnerTime in Florida's Wetlands  The dribble you see is snake guts........what can I say, it is what it is.  A very photographic bird with a keen eye and razor sharp beak, content to just sit, watch, wait...........then pounce.  Not here though, this is just a nice pic with no gore!!!

Images from the Hubble Telescope at the Kennedy Space Center Titusville FL Last week I re-visited the Kennedy Space Center located right here in Titusville Florida NASA...Shuttles...Rockets...Astronauts....Kennedy Space Center....all reasons we are known as Florida's Space Coast.  It had been 5 or 6 years since my last visit and I must say it's pretty impressive.  Security was tight but not oppressive, and...several new features have been added.  There are 2 IMAX theaters.  One featuring Man's Moon Missions, the other a close encounter with the Space Station.........both excellent productions lasting 40-45 minutes.  I don't know why I found it odd, but the … (36 comments)

Meet my 2 trusting, loving, gorgeous (albeit) high-maintenance Himalayans.  They weren't exactly rescued but the breeder was very happy to give them to a good home.  I had one of her Himmies before, for over 17 years so she knew who was getting her kittens.  These cats are now so over-bred that their little faces are EX-tremely smooshed which causes them horrendous sinus & drainage problems.  But since they don't know any better they just act like any other normal cat.  I have to wash their faces all the time but that's OK, we all know the drill.  They're both 9 years old now.  They love us as much as we … (43 comments)

If you see this on your property    It means this is living there!!!   THIS is a Gopher Tortoise and in Florida it is a protected, endangered species.  A friend of mine found out just how serious Florida takes it's job in protecting this turtle.  I won't mention the vendetta taking place, but when a clean-up of the area was attempted by the owner it took less than 5 minutes for the Florida Fish and Wildlife people to arrive on the scene.  My friend, a veteran of 2 tours in Iraq and currently going through the police academy was stunned at the uncompromising … (15 comments)

With so many baby boomers retiring in Florida. the request for 55+ communities comes up frequently.  I wanted to provide a comprehensive list, but found such a list very illusive.  I came across a government site which indeed provides a list of these communities.  The link below is specifically for Brevard County, but if you use the search field you can research any county in Florida.
