Over my 17 years in real estate I have sold a great many homes to first time home buyers. What I have discovered is that first time home buyers "don't know what they don't know".

They know they want a home to call their own, they know about how much they can afford, they may even have some idea of where they would like to live, but it's the "don't knows" that they really do need to know.

They need to know...

• Real estate terminology. Words like concessions, escrow, earnest money, and how these terms impact their home purchase and their finances.
• That timing is important. Waiting for home prices to "reach the bottom" may cause them to miss out on the perfect home or a great interest rate.
• How tax benefits and long term equity can impact their long term wealth.
• That home inspectors can save them thousands of dollars by pointing out flaws and possible defects which can impact the purchase price.
• That when they use the services of an experienced Realtor, to purchase a home, they will be given all of the tools needed to make an educated and informed decesion.

These are just a few of the "don't knows" that first time home buyers really do need to know.

It is my belief, and desire, that all first time home buyers should be given the opportunity to work with a real estate agent who is experienced, qualified and willing to give first time buyers the time and attention they need and deserve.
