wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: By the Fire - 08/22/12 01:36 PM

This is me.  I must be about three years old, and I'm guessing that my father took this in a house we lived in Williamsburg, Kentucky - a picturesque little town on the Cumberland River just above the Tennessee boarder.
What I can't figure out is how the color got there. The other family photos from this period are in black and white.  There are a few that my artist mom colorized, but I dunno.  And don't you love the footware?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Summer Daisies - 08/08/12 12:52 PM

I found these is a wild little garden while I was out previewing houses.  Each one was just perfect.  I was waiting for a big old bumble bee to sit down for a little rest on one of them, but it didn't happen. Luckily I had my I-phone with it's handy little camera in my purse, right next to my Sentrilock card.

wordless wednesday: The Week of Irises - 05/02/12 12:05 PM

Every week this spring, another type of flower has just shown up.  This week it was the irises.  I found this one across the street from my house at my Crestwood neighbor, jean's.  I loved the combination of the reds and yellows.  I'm wondering what it will be next week!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Two Trees - 04/25/12 11:50 AM

Last week, I was out showing houses and came across this unusual tree in the back yard of one of the homes we visited.  The big tree looked a bit forelorn.  While spring is well under way, its branches had no leaves at all.  Then in the crease of the trunk, there was a little dogwood peeping out.  What will Mother Nature think of next?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Flirtworthy Guy! - 12/07/11 04:18 PM

This fellow keeps watch on people who come to visit the National Botanical Gardens.  It's basically the National Greenhouse, with some amazing collections of houseplants on steroids.
I dunno.  He looks l little bit like the cello player in my chamber group!
The Botanical Gardens are just one of the many wonderful buildings along Independence Avenue, jut before you reach the Capitol Building.  It deserves a real blog post of its very own.  Maybe later in the week!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: My Aunt Joan - 07/20/11 03:11 PM

This is my Aunt, Joan Noon Kirkwood.  She was about 14 when I was born.  She totally spoied me - I was her first neice.  She doted/  She gae me my first doll, my first favorite dress, and she was my Godmother.  And we had a big birthday party for her last weekend.
There were a bunch of wonderful photos on display, and I especially loved this one.  It was taken when she was 16, a junior at Seaton High School in Baltimore.  She was wearing one of the white uniforms that she had to starch and iron every day.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Pacific Sunset - 07/13/11 05:00 PM

Today was hot and rainy and I was feeling a little bit down.  Then I sat down and went throught some photos that I took in Maui last year.  Every night during the trip, we found someplace to watch the sun go down.  This was one of my favorite sunset shots.  Time to get out of town for a few days!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Pasta - 06/29/11 05:07 PM

Many people have a sweet tooth.  I have a pasta tooth.  So I'm trying to eat only really, really great pasta in small quantitites.  This is real pasta.  It is very fresh and hand mae.  And in reasonable quantities, it probably is not too many weight watcher points.  And I can remember taking the photo and making a purchase, but cannot remember where.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Inspired by Roy Kelley - 06/23/11 02:21 AM

Roy Kelley does flowers.  He takes amazing photos and uses them both in his blog posts and even in comments on other bloggers posts.  And the way he captures the color and the light inspires me to take more of my own, not just with a sloppy click of my I-Phone, but to get a little more careful about it.
So now, when I'm out looking at houses or walking Willie, I bring my real camera and figure out the best settings.  I pay attention to what the light and wind are doing.  This bloom was outside of a townhouse … (21 comments)

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Dog Days - 06/15/11 02:28 PM

These fellas made me a little bit jealous as they waded into the Potomac River on a very warm afternoon near White's Ferry.  Silly me, I forgot to bring a bathing suit!   And I forgot to bring Willie the Labradoodle.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Tall Ship - 12/01/10 01:25 AM

It was a gray day in Philadelphia yesterday, and probably today as well!  But on a walk during lunch break at Rain Camp, I found this wonderful photo opp on a walk along the river.  Of course, I had my camera with me.  We all had our cameras in hand the enitre time!  And I'm glad I did.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Blue Skies - 11/03/10 03:46 AM

I took this one walking down 16th Street last Saturday.  I was with Barbara-Jo Berberi, and we had just finished a fun breakfast and were headed for my car.  And both of us had cameras in hand!
It seems like I always have my camera in my hand (well, not right this minute!) and sometimes I feel like it may annoy the people I'm with when I see one of those photo ops that screams "Stop!"  But walking with a blog buddyis different, because we were both stopping every few steps to capture something on our little digital discs!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Late Bloomer - 10/27/10 07:47 AM
Yesterday, while I was walking through Old Town in Alexandria, VA, I came across this amazing coral colored rose, the very last one in a garden that was fading fast.
Ah!  Mother Nature is so full of surprises, isn't she?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Bluebird - 09/29/10 06:37 AM

Yesterday, a colleague and I were checking out a favorite neighborhood in Prince George's County and met this fellow sitting in front of University Park Elementary School.  I brought the car to a screeching halt and pulled out my camers.
"Well, Pat," she said.  "You never know when a crazy starred blue bird will come in handy for your blog!"
She was right!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Llate Bloomer - 09/22/10 04:18 PM

I found this today in the side yard of a house I'm in he process of listing.  I've been walking past this rosebush for months with nothing happening.  Suddenly today I noticed four large, pink roses in full bloom.
In spring, I sort of take rose bushes for granted, but as fall gets closer, they somehow become more speciall.

wordless wednesday: Never Know Who You'll Meet at a Home Inspection! - 08/19/10 03:36 PM

You never know who you'll meet at a home inspection, especially if the property has a pond.  This fellow was on a deck near a pile of leaves, and it was sort of hard to tell them apart!  And I had my camera handy, and he posed for just long enough for me to get this.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: This one is for Kerrie Greenhalgh! - 08/11/10 09:52 AM

If you ever want to bribe Active Rain's Kerrie Greenhalgh for any reason at all (she may be able to do gold stars), here is a hint.  She loves Chanel!
I thought of her when I was going through some of the photos I took on last year's trip to Paris.  This is a vintage (that's French for "gently used") Chanel shop in the famous flea market.  There are beautiful old scarves, handbags, gold belts, earrings and a few wonderful dresses.  And I think this one would even fit out Kerrie perfectly!

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday: Ribbit. Ribbit. - 07/28/10 03:39 AM

Let's call this one "Lipstick on a Frog".
This fellow is amazing.  He lives along the side of a road on Bainbridge Island - it's the other Washington!   Some neighbors did this, creating a frog out of a couple of rocks stacked one on the other.  You might also notice the little creature in back of the frog.  Not sure exactly what he is.  But he sure is cute.
