While Arlene makes itself comfortable in the Gulf, I thought I'd bring back a blog from Ike!

Fry Road, Pick a Speed Limit, Any Speed Limit.....Please ! - 06/28/11 08:29 PM
Take South Fry Road from I-10 to Westheimer 35 MPI
Take South Fry Road from Westheimer it's 40MPI  (but only for a hundred yards or so)
Take South Fry Road after that hundred yards or so and it's 30 MPI
Take South Fry past that, and oops you've hit a school zone but it may have gone back to 35MPI, and during school it's 15MPI, and then maybe it's back to 40-ish around Grand Lakes......oh no, it's a day with "S" in it so you multiply the speed limit by 3 and divide by Pi......

THE GOOD NEWS:
We're seeing definite trends for this year!   Some of what is selling is surprising, and some of what isn't selling is also surprising.  Is there a trend?
Yes, there is a trend.   The year began with a great January & February.   The first three day weekends of the new year, always bring out the buyers, and frankly (at that time of year) it's the staged homes that always sell quickly.   I suspect that with the new listings, we're bringing freshness to the market, and with old listings that have been re-staged (or staged for the first time) we're rejuvenating … (3 comments)

The concept of home staging seemed slow-in-coming to Houston.   However, the basic principles of home staging have quickly been embraced by Sellers and Realtors alike!  A quick peek through the HAR.com listings will reveal a community that understands the concepts of decluttering.  Clean countertops and nearly vacant bookcases are the standard and not the exception.
But, like most things, the pendulum seems to have swung a little to far, and we're seeing the best of intentions resulting in 'looks' that are 'stark not staged'!

Bedroom furniture......
 
Bedrooms are by far, the most labor intensive, time consuming, and costly rooms for us to stage.   We've always kept a few bedrooms in our inventory, but when faced with the costs of staging a decent bedroom, most of our clients have opted to spend their staging budget elsewhere.  
I've never been a fan of air mattresses, and loathed delivering a Queen sized pillow top mattress and box spring across hardwood floors (potential scraping), down narrow, freshly painted hallways (potential scraping … (2 comments)

Supra keys never seem to work properly, and so excited guests/potential buyers are left on the stoop to assess the potential of this, their (hopefully) new home!   First, they'll glance through the sidelights to see the inside of the property, ohhhhhh, nice!   Now we'll notice the freshly painted front door.  Hopefully the carriage lights have been upgraded or at least cleaned and are now turned on....

Anyway, wassup in Vancouver?  The city by the sea, that is so scenic, and serenic (I liked the alliteration), has hoodlums breaking into the Hudson Bay Company's main windows!  Apparently, real men don't eat quiche, but will ransack the Estee Lauder counter at their local version of Macy's (a real department store) at the drop of a mink hat!
I would expect this type of behavior in Philadelphia (my home town).   But the Flyer's are actually capable of winning the Stanley Cup.   The Philadelphia Flyers appeared in the Stanley Cup series 8 times actually. (winning twice in … (4 comments)
