Today someone asked me how many homes are on the market in Winnetka.  Being a stats junkie, (try not to snore) I usually have a pretty good idea of the number of single family homes for sale in Winnetka.  Then she mentioned that it seem as though 20% of the existing single family homes are for sale.  We talked about the large number of “For Sale” signs peppering every block, but knowing that typically, 5% of homes turn over in any community in a year, 20% seemed over the top.  I turned to the 2000 Census data to … (3 comments)

This is being written in response to a featured blog about discussions regarding the possible elimination of the mortgage interest tax deduction.                                   This got us thinking about the anti-tax movement  and the impact they're having on the upcoming election.
First, I want to emphasize that we personally feel that the "mortgage interest tax deduction" is a critical tool in encouraging home ownership and absolutely does provide, both directly and indirectly, a huge financial benefit to our overall economy.  However, it sounds as though there is some convoluted thinking in regard to many people's perception of what this actually is.
