An Open Letter to the Charles County Planning Commission - 04/30/08 10:13 PM
I emphatically oppose the Chaney application for rezoning to Heavy Industrial from Agricultural Conservative and I implore our Planning Commission to deny the application. Every one of us in Hughesville continues to work hard for our investment. This is where we raise our kids, tend to our homes and produce our goods. It's so painfully obvious to me this location is inappropriate for a Heavy Industrial operation. I am most concerned with peripheral development around the Village of Hughesville. It's reasonable to surmise once one parcel goes Heavy Industrial, a precedent is set and other applications and approvals will soon follow. (5 comments)
Oak Ridge park is located in Hughesville, MD on Oaks Road. This eastern area park offers a combination of active and passive recreational activities.Athletic fields for official league use, by permit only, include little league and full size baseball fields. Also a field is available for community pick-up play. A playground and picnic pavilion area are included at this facility. Saturday April 26 was opening day for Hughesville Baseball, most of the games were played at Oak Ridge Park in Hughesville. The day started early with individual and team pictures. The weather was perfect. The afternoon high reached the low 80's with bright sunshine and (4 comments)
A lot of communities have old railroad right-of-of ways converted to walk, run, bike trails for public use. We really don't have that in Hughesville, MD, so I thought I'd share where I run as I train for my marathons. I live in Carriage Crossing which is off of Route 381. It's a two lane road with wide shoulders in some places. All of the roads I run on in the area are two lane roads and most of them have enough of a shoulder to run. Of course these roads were built in the 1920's and aren't designed to handle the traffic (2 comments)

The 17 acre development with Safeway as the anchor I blogged about a few months ago is about 4 months or so away from start of construction. It will be located in Charlotte Hall, MD between Golden Beach Road and the 7-11 and across the street from the McDonalds. Apparently, Tidewater Veterinary Hospital will be relocated about 600 yards away in a new state of the art building. Access to Tidewater Vet will move from Route 5 to Charlotte Hall Road or Golden Beach Road. I spoke to the developer this morning, Ray Mertz, about the project. Other tenants are expected to (2 comments)

March 2008 Hughesville Real Estate Market Report - 04/09/08 08:48 PM
March saw nine new resale listings and one new construction listing. Generally, March, April and May are the months we see increased sales, contracts and activity. The resale market increased under contracts and volume appears to be steady. I think prices have come down to a point that has generated buyer interest. Market absorption has changed little and look for additional listings to come online. I know of one new subdivision that will be releasing lots in April. I'll let you know when they are released. We should see additional solds in April as the homes that went under contract in February (1 comments)
