We're planning for September 6, 2008, so save the date! I'm working on getting the course USTAF certified. Also being held are a 5k walk/run and a Kid's Fun Run. The 10k is a loop and the 5k is an out and back. The 5k will be held immediately following the start of the 10k. I mapped the course using MapMyRun and ran it using my Garmin Forerunner. The distance and time of year are perfect for training for the upcoming fall marathons. Registration, time and registration fees are to be determined. I emphatically oppose the Chaney application for rezoning to Heavy Industrial from Agricultural Conservative and I implore our Planning Commission to deny the application. Every one of us in Hughesville continues to work hard for our investment. This is where we raise our kids, tend to our homes and produce our goods. It's so painfully obvious to me this location is inappropriate for a Heavy Industrial operation. I am most concerned with peripheral development around the Village of Hughesville. It's reasonable to surmise once one parcel goes Heavy Industrial, a precedent is set and other applications and approvals will soon follow.

The 17 acre development with Safeway as the anchor I blogged about a few months ago is about 4 months or so away from start of construction. It will be located in Charlotte Hall, MD between Golden Beach Road and the 7-11 and across the street from the McDonalds.
Apparently, Tidewater Veterinary Hospital will be relocated about 600 yards away in a new state of the art building. Access to Tidewater Vet will move from Route 5 to Charlotte Hall Road or Golden Beach Road.

Charles County planning officials agreed to postpone a public hearing on the proposed rezoning of 150 acres in Hughesville, MD when they learned that Chaney Enterprises Inc. did not have a traffic study or fiscal analysis done to support the proposal. I've been following an interesting subject that affects the quality of life for residents of Hughesville and Southern Maryland. The subject is the addition of Commuter rail cars on existing CSX rail lines. November saw several changes in the Hughesville market. Most notable was additional inventory through an increase of new construction. The newest subdivision is Ole Field Estate on Route 231 next to Old Field Chapel. It is a Marrick, Inc. community.
Average Days on Market increased two days from 92 to 94. We've seen some fairly stable conditions in Hughesville recently.
