So what are you doing this Saturday? Did you know that this Saturday, October 27th is Make a Difference Day? What is Make a Difference Day? USA Weekend Magazine named October 27th as a national community service day. It is a day that you can do whatever you want to help others. You never know how you can Make a Difference in someone's life. Our local Kiwanis clubs are sponsoring a Kiwanis' Kids Safety Fair at the local Wal Mart stores this Saturday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. I just recieved this email below from Senator Don Gaetz as an updated on where we are with the current legislative specail session. I really hope we can get some sort of agreement by the Senate to approve some of what the house is proposing. We only have until October 29th to put something together to put on the ballot in January. KIWANIS CLUB OF ORMOND BEACH AWARDS $5,000 TO FUTURES/TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN Kiwanis Clubs throughout the world are known for their efforts to help build strong communities with considerable focus on the development of youth. The Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach, in an effort to get the most out of their community service contributions, has awarded $5,000 to the scholarship fund of FUTURES/Take Stock in Children. This generous donation qualifies for a special statewide Take Stock In Children initiative called TURBO-Charged. I truly can't take it anymore. Can our legislatures figure out a reasonable and meaningful resolution to our property taxes? I don't think they can. The proposed "Super Exemption" that was to be on the ballot in January wasn't perfect but it was progress. As you are probably aware a judge filed to have the amendment removed from the ballot because it was unconstitutional and confusing for the average voter. Here is an outline of the super exemption and how the property taxes would be calculated: increase the homestead exemption from $25,000 to 75 percent of the just value of the property (2 comments)
