Last evening we did something unusual for us - went to see a play. We're more a symphony concert couple, but Phil saw a write-up and it sounded interesting, so we decided to check it out.

Short review: Fantastic! If you are in the Baltimore area, make it a point to see Wittenberg at Rep Stage in Columbia at Howard Community College. Four characters - one a real historical figure, the other three strictly fictional but known to us all. Martin Luther, Dr. Faustus, Hamlet, and the Eternal Feminine all at the University of Wittenberg in Germany, 1517. Sounds kind … (0 comments)

When I first moved to the Kings Contrivance village of Columbia, there was a grocery store in the village center that was convenient but old and fairly depressing. It was replaced in short order by a Safeway that was better, but not much. I always found their store arrangement puzzling; aisles marked "Breakfast" and "Dinner" didn't actually tell me what I would find there. And what was plastic wrap doing in the "Dinner" aisle anyway? The worst part was that it never seemed quite as clean as it might be, and some genius had ordained that there should be music … (4 comments)

For the second time in three years, Columbia, MD placed in the top 10 on the CNN/Money list of Best Places to Live. Now 41 years old, this planned community came in as the 8th Best Place to Live for 2008, after placing 4th in 2006.
Though the CNN/Money list links Columbia to Ellicott City, people in both cities will tell you there's a big difference between them. Ellicott City's history reaches back more than 200 years to 1772 when the three Ellicott brother established a flour mill on the Patapsco River.
