Friends of the Atlanta Home Inspector - Dr. Scott Featherstone

As a gift I received two detox foot baths from my husband who is a friend of Dr. Scott Featherstone. He bought these foot baths thinking just how relaxing they would be, not really considering the full health benefits of them. Needless to say I was amazed, Dr. Featherstone showed me around the office and then went on to explain how the detox foot bath works, because we have larger pores (not to mention - our feet are easily accessible) in our feet, when you the perform the foot bath it pulls toxins out of your body. I was amazed when I looked down and started noticing these flakes of black (looking at the paper - these we're heavy metals) and then the water turning an orange brown color - once again toxins.

After that I had what is called dry Hydro-massage therapy, (translates into old fashion back massage done with water jets, but you don't get wet, this was wonderful, after only ten minutes of this I was so relaxed that I could barely get up. I spent the weekend working in my flower beds and was so sore in my back I couldn't hardly stand to move, after this dry Hydro-massage therapy, I noticed that most of the pain in my back was totally GONE! So for all you agents around Roswell and Alpharetta, this is a must stop by place for a quick pick me upper. It will relieve all that stress that you have built up in your back.

There is not a lot of information on his website about the detox foot baths, but feel free to give him a call at 770-587-2900 and ask him how it can benefit you. Dr. Featherstone is located n Roswell, GA on Grimes Bridge Rd and is very conveniently located near 400. One of the things that I noticed was how good my feet felt and I'm looking forward to my next trip.

Tornadoes, wind damage and hail storms, Oh My! You may have to worry about your contractors to.

Here over the last few months Cherokee County was hit by a few storms including tornadoes, and a lot of hail damage. According to the following article the storms in Cherokee County caused about 13 million dollars in damage with more expected to come in. Our house was included in the hit and being the Atlanta Home Inspector, I knew what to look for and what needed fixing. As I have been doing inspections I have been watching out for the sellers and buyers here in Cherokee because a lot of them don't realize they have storm damage.

Recently I had two different clients come out of different groups that I meet with. What did they want? They wanted to make sure that the contractors that they hired to repair their home did the job that was up to standards and in both instances, neither contractor did a 100% satisfaction job. The one contractor had a few issues that needed addressed, but the other one took full advantage and did a less than satisfactory job, to the point that the contractor had to tear the roof off and redo parts of it.

If you recently know of someone who had storm damage and had a contractor come out and do repairs, have them find a good inspector to go over the work, a nominal fee can save you thousands.

Oh, and I also had to call my contractors back out to the job, for a couple of spots and a side wall that was shifted in. That one isn't going to be an easy fix and when we go to sell, if it isn't fixed, it will end up on the report costing us in the long run.

How do you help create customer loyalty?

As an Atlanta Home Inspector we have several different occasions when we try and say

Several of these come into play in the real estate field also. How about when your colleague closes that deal that they have been working on for months, or a realtor friend joins with a new brokerage company. We try and send them a card. What about when they got stuck with phone duty and got that killer listing that went just like clock work and sold instantly. Or how about that new baby boy or girl, you can easily send that congratulations card with a gift card and never leave your office.

I personally started trying to send cards on the closing date that has a picture of their new home on the card and the cards says "Welcome Home"

Or on the personal note you have a friend from work or maybe even a client and their son just got accepted to the college of their choice, how much would it meant to the friend or the client if their son received a real live greeting card from you in the mail. Would this not cause you to stand out in their mind and the next time they hear of someone mentioning buying or selling would they think of you first? I would think so, "WHY" because you thought of them first. People want to be recognized for their accomplishments and if you notice their children's accomplishments "Then You really are the Bomb".

My sister-in-law had an insurance agent from a small town that would watch the newspaper for anything about her family (he did this for several clients) and then send her a card that Congratulated her on what ever it was that he read. She personally told me that it didn't matter if her rates ever went up, she would not change because he cared about her family. This is what You want as a Realtor or as a business owner of any type, "LOYALTY" no matter what.

Atlanta Home Inspector ran across this local batting cage in Cherokee County.

I was on my way into Canton, Georgia and took a back way that I had not traveled very often. Imagine my surprise when I ran across this local horse barn that has been turned into a batting cage. Now seeing how fall all is about to start up in Cherokee county again, I thought there might be others out there that would like this information to.

The "Farm Club" is a 4,000 sq ft indoor batting cage center located at 3045 Univeter Rd. Canton, GA 30115 This is located 1 mile on the right from Hwy 140 and about 2 1/2 miles from hwy 5. You can sign up for indiviual seesions or team sessions. Check out the Farm Club Batting Cages website to get hours and more information. This is a great place to get your kids ready for that fall ball season that is coming up.

What to expect from the Atlanta Home Inspector on inspection day.

When I arrive at your home for your home inspection, I'll begin by carefully taking a look at the exterior of the property. All exterior features of the property will be inspected including driveways, drainage systems, and grading. The entire roof will be inspected along with chimneys, skylights, vent pipes and gutters. You would be amazed at how many inspectors don't walk the roof anymore.

Next is the interior. I'll usually work through the home in a logical sequence, one room at a time and one floor at a time. All general wall and floor finish conditions will be noted throughout the home. Appliances and bath fixtures will all be tested as will all electrical outlets, windows and doors. If you requested a Septic System test, sufficient water will be run through the plumbing system to place a load on the septic tank and a dye will be added to the water. This will be done while the interior inspection is taking place.

Once the detailed interior and exterior checks are completed, I'll perform an thorough evaluation of the plumbing, electrical, and heating/cooling systems of the property along with checking all components of your home.

Finally, I'll perform any additional inspections and tests, Radon, you may have ordered. I actually preform a 48 hour Radon test where the monitor is set up and checks for radon continuously for a 48 hour period. I will discuss the report with you and answer any questions you may have (and it doesn't matter how young or old you are) and address any concerns I have, or anything that is of a safety concern. The entire inspection should take no longer than five hours (depending on the size of the house). Most are less than four. However, situations vary with each property. After that your report will be completed within 48 hours and you will be able to download it right off of the internet complete with your full color pictures.

I Encourage You to Participate in the Inspection Process. It's a great opportunity to learn about your property and its important features. During the inspection, I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. You'll be surprised at what you'll learn and being present for the inspection will help you visualize all the items in the report.

Atlanta's home inspectors customers can't believe we take video testimonies!

David has been getting his clients to do video testimonies right there on the spot with no cue cards or anything and some of them can't believe that they go over the main items of the report right then and there and then David pulls out his little flip video to do the testimony. I'm checking out the video blog to see if I have actually got this set up so that the ads rotate in this post. This should be interesting to see what happens. I went to mixpo and uploaded several of our client testimonies and then saved it into an ad rotation. Let me know what you think.

I did notice that when I uploaded the videos there is a scratchy noise when the people are talking that was not there in the orignal, so if any one has any ideas why this happened , please feel me in. I used mixpo to edit and make the video.

Well this Atlanta home inspector and his wife have been in a major writing slump for about the last two weeks and niether one of sees the light at the end of the tunnel for coming out of this. We had written a couple of tutorials and not even gotten one comment. Then we send out funnies and get all kinds of comments, I for one am confused.

So here we are summer is upon us and I have been busy, the kids are out of school so Bonnie has been busy with them and she has already informed me that she is headed to Ellijay in the near future and she is not taking the computer with her. Atlanta Home Inspector's wife & daughter shares "The Beautiful Ellijay Mountains"

Breana and I went up to the Ellijay mountains to visit with my parents and ran across this beautiful subdivision called Black Bear Ridge Mountain sitting well off the beaten path. Ever since we purchased the flip video we try and take it every where we go. We have such a great time with it. I took several videos while visiting with my parents. I tried to locate the Black Bear Ridge Mountain community again on the map and couldn't so I did the next best thing, I have inclued some great real estate agents from the area to help you.

One of them is Donna Yates she's all about getting you the lifestyle you desire and deserve, then you also have Kim Southern who sells with Southern Hospitality, that in itself says a lot, and last but not least, Patty Ledford who spends a great deal of time working with her clients, going above and beyond, if you wish to know exactly where this magnificent place is. The veiws from the whole community were spectacular. The cabin in the video is my favorite.

Atlanta Home Inspector's wife shares "How to do an ActiveRain Video with mixpo"

After spending quite amount of time on the phone with Brad Andersoh I decided to try and do "How to video on ActiveRain Video/Mixpo" I decided that if I could do a video that answered some of the questions that I thought was dumb, and that Brad gladly answered, that maybe it would help everyone out. This took a while, but I think the next one will go much quicker. I hope to do several of these featuring each different step. I did one from start to finish and it took a month of Sunday's to load, so I decided it would be best to do it in steps. So here is the first try at it. It is still a little long, almost 4 minutes, so be patient.

Atlanta Home Inspector series on "what we inspect" Part 1

Did you know that as an Atlanta Home Inspector I check around 2000 items on each and every home inspection. So many times we are asked to cut our prices, give discounts and other things. The average home inspection takes me 3 to 4 hours to do the job properly, without being rushed. This does not include the time that I spent going over the report with the client or answering any questions they might have. So I thought I would give you an example in a series of some of the things that I check.

When I first arrive I stand back from the house or cross the street and look at the entire home. One of the things I look for is sloping sagging or anything that does not look just right. I also check the other homes in the subdivision to get an idea of age and if the one I am inspecting has been well maintained.

The next thing I begin to look at is the grading and drainage checking to make sure that all drainage is appropriate and not draining towards the house.

I also do a through check of the exterior walls, siding, openings (windows and doors) steps, decks and balconies.

Check out the Atlanta home inspector's first home inspections video done with ActiveRain Video. This took a little bit of a learning curve and two complete deletions before getting it done. I think the next one will go a lot quicker and smoother. I'm beginning to think I could really put together a great "What NOT to do video" on this.

Well there it is, let us know what you think of our first effort. Also I can't decide wheather to keep the same format and enter the videos or should I try different back grounds and music for the lead and back pages..

I have been listening to a cd series on my way to and from home inspections and with traffic sometimes that alone can take a while. but the other day when I was listening to Financial Revolution, the guy was talking about the story of Jesus where he feeds the multitudes.

Matthew 14:15-21
: 15 When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food." 16 But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat." 17 And they said to Him, "We have here only five loaves and two fish." 18 He said, "Bring them here to Me." 19 Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. 21 Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Most of you know the story, but this is the point that he made, when He meaning Jesus was presented with something (to take care of the need) Jesus didn't just start passing it out. First he lifted it up to His Father and blessed it. He didn't just tell the disciples to go and start passing it out. He had to lift it up and bless it for it to multiply. We are suppose to do the things Jesus did.

He asked on the cd "How many times do you get something, gas, paycheck, extra money, anything that will meet a need and just turn around and use it without ever blessing it or without asking the Father to bless it. If you notice after it was blessed is when it multiplied, not before. What would happen if every time we received something that we asked for the Father to bless it. What would happen if we lifted up one of our most valuable assets - TIME - and always ask the Father to bless it.

I don't know about you but this guy really got me to thinking and I have been lifting a whole lot more things up to the Father for His blessing.

He also shared knowledge on several other stories, one was the widow that was going to eat her last cake and lay down and die, so stay tuned for the rest of that stories perspective.

Atlanta's Home Inspector shares a little laughter along with inspiration.

I've seen this before and loved it only because of the life lesson that it teaches. So many times when stuff happens we get so discouraged that we just want to lie down and take what ever is coming our way. This is a great reminded to not do that. To take what is handed to you in life and use it to the best of your ability.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;

it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone.. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Atlanta Home Inspector says "You can increase your business by doing this simple thing"

So often I hear the word "blessed" and automatically my mind travels to the financial aspect of it. But I really have been thinking about this lately and I let my mind go on a whole different avenue. You see, David and I have so many things in our life right now that causes us to think that we are very blessed, right now one of those things is a fifteen year old son, whom David and I trust completely, because he has proved himself time and time again to be responsible and trust worthy, but not only that, even at the age of 15 he is not ashamed of our relationship that we have. You see I also drive a school bus for his high school so when the bell rings everyday instead of standing around and talking to his friends, he heads directly for my bus to see how my day went and to tell me about his. More often than not he hugs me and kisses me on the cheek and this is in front of all his friends. Then the last thing before he leaves I have the privilege of hearing " Love ya Mom!"

Daniel is in JROTC and we went to his Military Awards ceremony and ball this past week. We could not have been more proud as he received several awards that evening. But to top it off, we got together to have pictures made and in front of the whole lunch room full of people, mainly his peers, these are the pictures that we had the opportunity to take.

All this makes me, as a mom, realize that when everyone starts talking about those awful teenagers and how they are pulling their hair out because of their teenagers actions, that I am truly blessed to be the mother of a teenager. Now some of you may have read another post that I have written

I personally think it's just a waste of time, but that's just my opinion! that talks about the words you speak. David and I both have always spoke blessings over our children, we speak the way that we want them to be, even if at the moment their actions may not be lining up. I truly believe this is why we have the children that we do today.

And this doesn't just pertain to your children?

It could pertain to anything you chose. What are you speaking regarding your marketing efforts, your cliental, your listings, your closings, your husbands and personal relationships?

I can think of one major thing that I constantly spoke negatively over and that was my weight, the more I said I was gaining weight, and that I just couldn't help it that I was hungry all the time, the more I ate and the more weight I gained. Now I haven't spoken it all back off yet, but I am definitely talking to it in a more positive way.

So what have you been speaking blessings over and seen it come to pass and what have you been speaking negative over and seen that come to pass also.

What would you change? You can increase your business by simply watching what you are saying on a regular basis.

Here's one last picture of Daniel and his beautiful date, Jordan. Both of the kids are firmly rooted in Christ and it shows in their everyday actions and attitudes.

Atlanta Home Inspectors tips for helping with allergy season

I don't know about you but after reading the info below I think I'm definately going to have to get out the feather duster. I have this really great feather duster from Flylady.net and it does a fantastic job when I've got it in my hand instead of typing here at this computer.

“House dust is one of the most prevalent – and unavoidable – allergy triggers in any home,” says Dr. Berger. “Since you can’t control the allergens outside your home, dusting is just one of the several easy steps you can take to allergy-proof the inside.”

Don’t Sleep on It

You are not the only one who loves your bed; so do dust mites. In fact, an average bed contains 2 million dust mites, which means it’s possible to breathe in significant amounts of allergens while sleeping. However, a few simple steps can be taken to ensure those mites are not sleeping in your bed.

* Cover all mattresses and pillows with zippered, dust-proof covers. Choose a material, like plastic, vinyl or fabrics, with pores too small to allow dust mites through. I've done this one all my life, don't know why, I guess I'm just strange like that.

* Wash bed sheets and blankets every week in hot water – at least 130 degrees F – to kill dust mites. Well there goes saving that hot water, I usually wash in cold water, now that will be changing.

Don’t Sit on It

Dusting furniture alone will not eliminate dust and pet dander. Some products, such as feather dusters or dusting cloths, simply stir up dust in the air instead of eliminating the allergens within dust and pet dander.

* Use a product that contains allergen trappers. Pledge Furniture Polish removes up to 84 percent of allergens from dust mites and pet dander found in dust.

* If you have severe allergies, avoid furniture made from upholstery. Instead choose wood, plastic, vinyl or leather furniture; these materials are easier to clean than fabric.

Don’t Touch it

Certain places in the home can be a breeding ground for dust mites and pet dander. Making smart choices when picking furniture and household accessories can make a difference for allergy sufferers.

* Pet dander is more easily collected in carpeting and thick rugs. To help make allergy-proofing easier, choose bare floors over carpeting where you can use cleaning products to pick up and remove allergens from pet dander. Using a vacuum with a HEPA filter at least once a week is an alternative option.

* Allergy sufferers should avoid curtains and instead opt for shades or blinds that are easy to clean.

All I can say is wow, I'm going to really have to change some stuff or just deal with it.

What a great week of Revival at World Harvest Church in Ball Ground

If it seems like we were missing in action, It is because we have been. We have been busy during the day with home inspections and Sunday night started revival at World Harvest Church in Ball Ground. With everything that went on we have had very little time to post. On Monday night, Bishop Lance Johnson preached on a topic called false dependencies. This really got me to thinking about, what are we dependent on? Are we dependent on ourselves, our economy and our abilities to help us make it in life, or are we dependent on the one that created us to begin with. I have to laugh when I think about all the times that I tried to do things on my own, in my own ability and completely messed it up. And yet life just seems to run so much smoother when I surrender things over to the Lord and let HIM guide the way.

Bishop also talked about using alcohol, prescription drugs and drugs to cope with life in general, and how people tend to use those things as their false dependencies. In other words, they think it'll make things better. Right now, if you look across this nation, you constantly hear about the meth epidemic, and how it is destroying the lives of families. But I have had the privilege of seeing several completely delivered from this drug that they say, you can never get away from and that you will always want it, by the power of Jesus! Almost every family in America has been affected in some way or another by addictions and I know that there is an answer and help, and as Christians, we can help.
