During Atlanta Home Inspections a common find for us, is overgrown or untended shrubbery. In these instances, the unruliness of the shrub can cause a host of issues.
When shrubbery grows too close to your home's siding, moisture collects and can cause deterioration. Algae, mildew and mold growth can also occur. Of course, there is also the possibility that you are providing a smorgasboard for wood destroying organisms, such as termites.
It is also a good idea, to keep shrubbery from growing into your gutters or downspout systems. The overgrown limbs can impede the process of proper drainage.

We spotted this lovely lady dangling not so very far away from her
web during a Canton home inspection. The red dots indicate that she is
indeed a Black Widow. Also, due to the grape shape that her belly has,
we would say she is full of eggs.
Don’t let her beauty fool you- she is venomous! Even though she is shy , she prefers the night life. Don’t take her by surprise, you might get bitten.

Safety tags are affixed to products for a reason. Even though they seem common sense. For instance, we were inspecting a home recently, that had an issue with the garage door sensor. We noted the issue and in our report language we explain the danger to children and animals, and reveal the fact that injury or death can occur. The agent called asking why we would say such a terrible thing. The agent warned us that this type of language is alarming. All I know is that YES. It is alarming, and should be alarming. The air smells like barbequed goodness as you, with beverage of your choice and assorted side dishes on plate, ready to sit down on the last patio chair. The one that just seems to be sad and lonely without you. As you make your way across the crowded deck, the anticipation of good food and good times comes to a crashing halt as you crash to the deck floor. Someone should have hammered in those nails and sanded those splinters!

It isn't everyday that you hear a compliment like, "Nice flashing", and your mind doesn't travel somewhere it shouldn't... you know what I'm saying. However, in this instance the compliment is totally innocent and positively directed at an innovative roofer. This rare find deserves accolades because it helps water shed and protects the integrity of the chimney.

Ok, so I guess most of us have heard that old adage that "duct tape fixes everything". However, most of us don't take that legend as truth. Surprisingly, somebody must have lived by these words! I guess they did take special care to match the tape to the already present shingles. I do have to scratch my head and wonder what made this a "good idea".
This patchwork would never have been detected from the ground. Surprisingly, there was more than one "shingle" on the roof that was found.
