atlanta home inspector: A Light Bulb Moment With The Atlanta Home Inspector - 02/24/12 08:34 AM
The Atlanta Home Inspector likes to conserve energy. One way the inspector in Atlanta, Ga conserves is with Energy Star products. Energy Star has become a common term within our everyday language. What exactly does Energy Star mean and how does it apply to not only the Atlanta Home Inspector, but also to each of us? Bear in mind, this is not a picture of an Energy Efficient Light Bulb!! The Environmental Protection Agency has spent research time and money to determine what products will conserve energy and reduce climate change emissions. When a product passes all of the requirements

atlanta home inspector: Behold the Radiant Beauty- Literally, it's Radiant! - 12/28/11 11:06 AM
Picture it - Douglasville, Georgia, December 2011 - The inspectors are providing there usual detailed and friendly service to a wonderful couple and their well established agent. For the most part, this inspection has been busines as usual. The appliances have all been noted, models and serials recorded for RecallChek, the roof has been walked, the outlets tested... the list here can go on and on. For the stories sake and the sake of losing an audience, we will now descend the well crafted steps into the lower regions of the home to examine the underbelly, because this is where the

atlanta home inspector: Sharing Recipes with The Atlanta Home Inspector ~ Mulligatawny Stew - 12/05/11 11:02 AM
I have to admit the kitchen isn’t always my favorite room. Some days preparing a meal seems like such a treacherous or impossible feat. Especially when a hectic schedule doesn’t permit much preparation time for a hearty meal. Then, there are the days when I get adventurous and can’t wait to try a new recipe, hoping that it will become a new favorite. I have only fixed this delicious stew once, but it was quite yummy on an Autumn evening. If you are a fan of curry, you will like this one. We didn’t add the cream, you can always substitute with sour cream, if you wish!

atlanta home inspector: The Fire of Zeus and What That Means to a Small Indiana Town - 11/16/11 01:43 PM
Spawning from a tree, whose name means "the fire of Zeus", the persimmon, a yellow-orange to red-orange fruit, is so revered in Mitchell Indiana that an annual festival occurs in its' honor. High in glucose and balanced proteins, persimmons are best when eaten baked. However, pies, cakes, syrups, and jams have all been made and exhibited in the annual festival. The secret to the flavor is finding the perfect ripeness. The perfect ripeness does not come from the fruits hanging on the tree, rather from the ones that have fallen to the ground. Before moving South, my husband and

atlanta home inspector: Mortgage Underwriters are bad guys~ right? - 11/11/11 12:19 PM
In the high noon showdown of mortgage lending, the last draw is reserved for the Underwriter. He/She stands at the ready, rules and regulations holstered, but under thumb. They get the last shot, the fatal denial or honorable acceptance. Villains, they may seem , to agents and consumers, but if you ever meet one face to face, they don't seem so bad. I got the chance to listen to a panel of Mortgage experts, a few of which, were Mortgage Underwriters. Their job is a dastardly one, after all. They have to determine if you are worthy or not, and that

atlanta home inspector: Accidental Indeed! - 11/02/11 10:23 AM
Accidental inventions can change our lives! For instance, if Ruth, a Toll House Inn owner had not decided to break bits of sweetened chocolate and mix them into her cookie dough when her supply of bakers chocolate ran out, then the chocolate chip cookie would not have been invented. She thought the chipped chocolate would melt, making Chocolate Cookies… which was one of her most popular baked goods at the Toll House Inn. Arguably, this was a pleasant accidental invention. Sometimes, great scientific minds are so focused on a specific study, that they almost miss an important break through. Consider John

atlanta home inspector: A Story Etched in Stone - 10/25/11 10:48 AM
Atlanta Home Inspector Standing for 84 years, the house had been home to different families from different walks of life. Writers, Historians, Moms and Pops had tread the hardwoods and shared many of life’s lessons within the cottage walls. The charm and character of the place remained in tact, in fact, the new owners fell in love at first sight. One could say that the walls even spoke to them in tones that beckoned a new life and the promise of new adventure in a once upon a time railroad town. Underneath the paint, behind the built-in bookshelves, and beyond

atlanta home inspector: Unruly Shrubbery Woes Unearthed by The Atlanta Home Inspector - 09/20/11 12:17 PM
During Atlanta Home Inspections a common find for us, is overgrown or untended shrubbery. In these instances, the unruliness of the shrub can cause a host of issues. When shrubbery grows too close to your home's siding, moisture collects and can cause deterioration. Algae, mildew and mold growth can also occur. Of course, there is also the possibility that you are providing a smorgasboard for wood destroying organisms, such as termites. It is also a good idea, to keep shrubbery from growing into your gutters or downspout systems. The overgrown limbs can impede the process of proper drainage. It is true

atlanta home inspector: Invincibility Clothing Worn by Atlanta Home Inspectors! - 09/12/11 01:23 PM
Wielding their moisture meters and extending mirrors, the Tyvek® clad Atlanta home inspectors plunge into the recesses of your home. Rodents, chemicals, asbestos beware! The polyethylene fibers and random pattern bonding of the material make home inspectors invincible... sort of. When suited up, the inspectors are resistant to water, chemicals, UV rays, and depending on the grade of suit, fire. The most common place the inspectors wear the suits are in crawlspaces. A DuPont researcher named Jim white, invented Tyvek® in 1955. However, it wasn't until 10 years later that DuPont officially trademarked the product as Tyvek®. DuPont still manufactures the

atlanta home inspector: A Lovely Lady Catches the Eye of The Atlanta Home Inspector - 09/02/11 12:10 PM
We spotted this lovely lady dangling not so very far away from her web during a Canton home inspection. The red dots indicate that she is indeed a Black Widow. Also, due to the grape shape that her belly has, we would say she is full of eggs. Don’t let her beauty fool you- she is venomous! Even though she is shy , she prefers the night life. Don’t take her by surprise, you might get bitten. Some symptoms of Black Widow Bite include, but are not limited to: excessive sweating, swollen eyelids, abdominal pains, and sore muscles.

atlanta home inspector: Up on a Pedestal (Sink) With the Atlanta Home Inspector - 09/01/11 11:44 AM
Pedestal sinks have become a popular and space saving item in homes. They are also pleasing to the eye, as far as bathroom equipage goes. Recently, we have encountered several such sinks during our home inspections. Now, encountering them may not seem that strange, what we are finding, however, that is strange, is the manner in which they are installed. When installing a pedestal sink, if the back of the pedestal is enclosed, chances are likely that the wall will have to be opened up in order to move up the

atlanta home inspector: Storytime with The Atlanta Home Inspector - 08/18/11 12:11 PM
Atlanta home inspector . Every Attic tells a story. What story will your attic tell? Will it be a drama full of supporting characters that fail, like broken trusses or rafters, with the general theme relying on a special code? Maybe it will be action packed with a burning past, complete with smoke, soot, and mismatched rafter color. That would be firey , indeed. Perhaps it is a horrific tale, with lurking monsters, who gnash their teeth, whip their tales, or hiss as you advance in their direction. An ensemble cast is always a good adventure, the water works ensue, especially when one character leaks
