I'm new to active rain and wanted to share some helpful moving tips that have worked well with clients of mine. This is a nice Moving check list that I will break up in three parts, Before you Move, Moving Day, and Delivery Day. Today I will share with you ‘Before you Move'. This information tends to apply to a long distance moves, but can also apply to local or storage moves as well.
Before you Move
- Obtain the brochure Ready To Move? And the booklet Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move from the mover.
- Ask for recommendations from your realtor, neighbors, friends, and relatives about movers they have used or heard about. Realtor's will more than likely be the best resource. They know who's good and who's not!
- Check with the Better Business Bureau.
- Find out what the movers responsibilities are for damages that may occur to your household goods.
- Ask if the mover has a dispute settlement programs.
- Obtain estimates from at least three movers, and compare cost and all other services to be provided by the mover.
- Check to determine whether the interstate mover is registered with FMCSA and has a USDOT number. For Intrastate (within a state), check to see if your mover is registered with that state.
- Find out how and when pickup and delivery of your household good will occur.
- Ask the mover how they can be contacted before the move, during the move, and after the move.
- Adequately insure your household goods.
