paul chaney: The Digital Handshake - a Social Media MUST - 09/09/09 09:58 PM
If you follow me at all anywhere on the Interwebs, you have heard me mention The Digital Handshake - book by Paul Chaney that's available for pre-order and about to come out any day now. Some people have asked me how I can endorse a book without even reading it and the answer is simple: Paul Chaney has personally helped my business and has opened my eyes to the power of social media. It first started with his book Realty Blogging (which he co-authored with Richard Natch), and then was my coach and mentor during the Inman News sponsored "Project Blogger"

paul chaney: Taking your Online efforts Offline - Part ii - 01/20/09 09:27 PM
Here’s part 2 of taking your online efforts offline - I’m still getting a lot of feedback from my presentation at Inman Real Estate Connect in New York - it’s great to see that I have sparked creativity and people are seeing ROI in a whole different light. It's great to see the feedback and reactions here on Active Rain - I have to admit that I missed the interaction. I can’t stress enough the need to be GENUINE and not sales pitchy….remember that with everything I tell you. I already mentioned an official launch and complementing your on-line and

paul chaney: Whose voice is it anyway? - 05/19/07 12:08 AM
When blogging we hear so much about "finding your voice". The good ladies of the rain, TLW, Mariana Wagner, Ann Cummings, Monika McGillicuddy, and Carole Cohen, all wrote about it when we reviewed books here in Active Rain like Realty Blogging, by Richard Nacht and Paul Chaney and also The Weblog Handbook by Rebecca Blood. We hear about "finding your voice" from Project Blogger Judges, from other bloggers....it seems that the VOICE subject is everywhere. So I decided to do a little investigating to see what's the big deal about THE VOICE, and here's what I have to say. Your voice can

paul chaney: Miamism - our new site - 05/17/07 09:50 AM
As many of you know, we will be launching our new site Miamism.com very soon. It is looking SWEEeeeT....if I may say so myself. Just some minor technical aspects need to be worked out and a couple of tweaks here and there....but judge for yourself - I always like constructive criticism. Now I need to figure out which cool widgets and plug-ins we need to add - Paul Chaney has great suggestions and I need to get busy and start filling it with information (like listings).....and that grey bar at teh top will have a cool scrolling thingy......I am sooo technical....can't

paul chaney: Marketing that persuades, sways, induces or influences? - 05/09/07 08:43 AM
Paul Chaney and I had a great coaching session yesterday about Internet Marketing where he shared an acronym from a book he is reading called Secrets of Online Persuasion by John-Paul and Deborah Micek. Some of you will have done a lot of these things, and some of us need to work on a couple of these points - but they are true, they are simple and they are a MUST for successful Internet Marketing. F- Focus of Niche O- Optimize Key words O- Organize Content D- Dig into your results Paul called these the 4 keys to "spider bait" - I thought that was genius! FOCUS ON NICHE- for

paul chaney: Marketing your blog - Google Juice part II - 05/06/07 12:53 AM
Paul Chaney and I continued looking at the post by Lee Odden called 25 Tips for Marketing your Blog, but before I continue I wanted to point out an interesting question that came up in Marketing your blog - Google Juice part I. With regards to the the differing opinions about the use of blogrolls, Paul answered with the following crystal clear explanation: "I don't buy the argument that blogrolls are bad. I think they're beneficial for a number of reasons. 1) They turn your blog into a mini-directory built around the theme of your blog. You include other thematically-relevant blogs in your blogroll. 2)Having

paul chaney: Marketing your blog - Google Juice part I - 05/03/07 12:49 AM
This is the part I was waiting for....Blog Marketing. Since Project Blogger started, Paul Chaney has been telling me for a couple of weeks now....we'll get to marketing..... marketing is coming...... next week we'll start marketing....FINALLY!!! We looked at a post called 25 Tips for Marketing your Blog by Lee Odden. I have to tell you that I had never seen all this information together in one single post and found it extremely helpful. We went point by point all the way to number 12 and when I was done, my head felt like it was about to explode because of all the information

paul chaney: Blog Formats - Part II - 04/24/07 09:39 PM
Part I of this series listed the diferent blog formats as identified by Amy Gahran in Paul Chaney's book, Realty Blogging. As an exercise for Project Blogger, Paul asked me to write a post with each format with the idea that I would feel comfortable with each and identify my weakness (I'm not sure if that was the goal, maybe Paul should answer that). I will now go into detail about each format and explain the benefits as well as how I feel about each. LINK-ONLY - (my examples: Historic Home Niche and Outside Active Rain drops) - the idea with this format is just writing a

paul chaney: Blog formats - PART I - 04/21/07 01:28 PM
As many of you know, one of my assignments for Project Blogger, from coach extraordinaire, Paul Chaney, was to write one or 2 posts using the different formats outlined in his book, Realty Blogging. At the beginning of the assignment, Paul wrote about each format in detail and gave credit to Amy Gahran, for identifying these. I have to confess that when reading about the formats, I found the information very helpful, but actually forcing myself to write in each particular format taught me a lesson, (actually a couple). The first lesson is that there are some formats that may not come to you easily, but they

paul chaney: Project Blogger in my wildest dreams - 04/16/07 09:35 PM
When I first saw Jonathan's announcement about Project Blogger I was so intrigued and thought it was such an incredible and innovative idea. Then shock hit me when Paul Chaney, THE PAUL CHANEY, whose book, Realty Blogging, we (TLW, Ann, Monika, Mariana and Carole), had reviewed a couple of weeks prior here on Active Rain, invited me to be his apprentice. But in my wildest dreams, would I have ever imagined what this competition would turn to....the camaraderie, the friendship, the help and the sharing that has transpired on only the first week of the competition leave me speechless. (well, not really). Everyone is going out of their way to

paul chaney: Miami's Romero Britto - 04/14/07 11:58 PM
Today I started thinking about art in Miami and the first name that came to mind was Romero Britto. It's very difficult to drive around Miami without seeing one of his works. So who is this guy anyway? Romero Britto is an extremely talented pop artist born in Brazil in 1963 who now lives in Miami. One of the best articles I found is by Alex Williams of the New York Times, who describes how Britto's work is found everywhere, including Gloria Estefan's home in Star Island, Fort Lauderdale Buses, Miami Children's Museum, housing complexes, parks, and Metro-Rail stations, to name a few. (I even have a signed

paul chaney: Outside Active Rain drops - 04/12/07 05:30 PM
At any given time, you can log on to Active Rain and find your favorite "rainers" - but if AR went "POOF" like our favorite Codgers' stories, would you know where to go? Would you be able to find your friends? Here's what I found.... TLW and Broker Bryant do ramble and can even hear a "BAM" once in a while. Jeff Turner is usually at work with the latest gadgets here, but can also be found in deep thought; you can also find him scanning his wife Rocky's blog (although a mother he is not), or getting ideas for Rain for Change. paul chaney: Rick & Ines - kicking off Project Blogger - 04/11/07 03:46 PM
I will kick off Project Blogger week doing something we are not supposed to do. I hope Paul Chaney doesn't come knocking on my door screaming "ARE YOU NUTS....HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED ANYTHING???" (For those of you that don't know him....he is truly a Southern Gentleman and would never do that). Your posts should never be about YOU, YOU, YOU! They should engage the reader. Because a lot of people don't know us, I thought it would be appropriate to introduce ourselves in order to make this trip down Project Blogger a little easier to comprehend and digest. Truth be told, Rick does

paul chaney: RSS explanation from a non-geek - Project Blogger session 3 - 04/06/07 12:27 PM
Ok guys, some of you may read this and totally crack up and know how clueless I am when it comes to this stuff. But Paul Chaney, my super Project Blogger coach, was gracious enough to try to explain the concept of RSS to basic principles. All I want to know is...... Is there an "RSS for idiots" in the bookstores yet? because if there isn't, that may be a good money maker. I do encourage everyone to jump in and correct me or explain further if you feel the need. Also, keep in mind that this is my interpretation of Paul's lesson,

paul chaney: First Project Blogger Coaching Session - my homework - 04/04/07 02:56 AM
My whole goal with this competition is not only to start my new blog with a kick, but to share with you everything I learn in the process with the hope that it will inspire some of you into establishing real goals and direction for your own blog. We're all here to learn, so let's get to it. In our first Coaching session, this is what Paul asked me to do: "Our jumping off place was what I refer to as 10 Things to Consider Before You Blog. (It's Appendix A in the book btw). The blog in question is a new one she's

paul chaney: Bring it on Project Blogger - 04/02/07 08:14 PM
I have to tell you guys that not only Am I honored and flattered and all of those other cool things associated with feeling up on a pedestal but I am also a little shocked!! I have been chosen to be none other than Paul Chaney's apprentice for Project Blogger. At first I thought "COOL!!" then I thought "Oh NO...this means work", but then....after I digested the idea I said "BRING IT ON!!" For those of you that don't know or don't remember, the good ladies of Active Rain lead by non other than TLW - wrote reviews of Realty Blogging, written by Richard
