If you travel just about an hour north of Olympia on Hwy 101, or about an hour south of Port Townsend on Hwy 101, you will encounter a microcosm something similar to the emerald rainforests of Brazil, combined with the lush mountaintops of the Swiss Alps and the salty sea air and the cry of the seagull as it rides the currents of air in Maine. Nowhere else in the Continental US can you find all these fabulous places rushing together between Mileposts 299 and 314. Such a short distance to contain all of Heaven on earth.
Brinnon is undergoing alot of change, and not all of it is being met with wide open arms. Many of it's residents wish to keep it the hidden gem it has been for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years. A group from Canada is trying to bring in a large resort that will include a golf course and other amenities and will increase land values around here by astronomical numbers. Certainly you can see why this group has it's supporters.
No matter which side of the fence, or canal, you happen to be on, you certainly should make Brinnon one of your stops this summer. It's beauty that has to be experienced to be appreciated and the locals can certainly use the stimulation of economy no matter what. Who knows? That 100ft waterfall that you can stand under and wash that man right outta your hair may not be there for too many years completely unpolluted, and the "Big One" is most likely waiting for you in that fishing hole I may just share with you if you buy me a cup of coffee down at the Geoduck. Well...maybe if you buy me a piece of pie with it too.
