Maybe it's just me and my "older" eyes. Recently, I've noticed more and more of the websites I go to for news and information and other stuff have their text in a medium gray color on a white background. What's up with this? What has happened to the nice crisp black text on a white background that someone can actually read easily?
I have, over the years built quite a few websites for myself. One of the things that I learned early on was about making them "User Friendly". This includes making the text large enough and with good enough contrast for easy reading and making the navigation of the site as simple as possible so that people can find what they went there to find. Has this all gone out the window now? It appears so!
I for one find it very difficult to read this light gray text. In some cases it annoys me enough to actually click away from the site and not go there any longer. This reaction is death to the website if enough people find the site difficult to use and will stop using it.
So...... Word to the wise! Take a look at your site or your blog and look at it from the perspective of user friendliness and ease of reading. There are many resources that cover this area of font selection, text color, line spacing and "voicing" of your writing style.
Another pet peeve of mine is poor grammar. Nothing obscures your message more than having the reader's attention grabbed by misusing a word when you are writing. You may call me a "grammar Nazi" but I'll stick to my guns on this. If you are trying to be professional, BE professional in your writing.
End of Rant! <grin>
