fredericksburg area information: Belvedere Plantation - A Traditional Pumpkin Patch Outing - 10/20/08 11:20 AM
Last weekend my oldest daughter, Adrienne, took my youngest son, Matt, to Belvedere Plantation, a beautiful 645-acre working farm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. They had a great time and came back with some wonderful pictures. I thought I'd share it all here! Belvedere Plantation offers so many different outdoor attractions that children (and adults) of every age can find something they'll enjoy! They have a corn maze, a barnyard where kids can see different farm animals, pig races, a giant 100-foot slide for people over 5 years old, zip lines for kids of every height, a barn filled with hay and rope swings,

fredericksburg area information: Benefit for Al Sharp at Brock's in Fredericksburg - 12/12/07 08:22 PM
When tragedy touches our lives, none of us knows exactly how we will handle it. We certainly never think a tragic accident will leave us unable to do what we take for granted everyday - giving our children a hug, tying our shoes, bathing, eating a bowl of cereal or driving to the grocery store or to work. For those of you who have been selling real estate for any length of time here in the Fredericksburg area, you may know a very good family friend (and I am proud to say, my neighbor), Al Sharp. Al deals primarily in commercial real

fredericksburg area information: A Day of Shopping with My Stager - 11/19/07 10:31 AM
I'm not a big shopper...in fact, I pretty much hate it. I don't mind window shopping but the idea of having to actually buy anything makes me cringe. I do it reluctantly, at best. But last Friday, I called my friend (and Stager, Margie Keller) to come out with me for lunch and a day of window shopping in Fredericksburg. One of Margie's favorite little shops is Moore Unique Designs on Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg. The store is going to be moving to a new location down on William Street in February and have much of their merchandise discounted. If

fredericksburg area information: An Afternoon Stroll Down Caroline Street - 11/08/07 01:02 PM
One of my favorite things to do on a sunny day or warm evening is take a stroll down Caroline Street in Fredericksburg. Lined with antique shops, historic buildings, museums, quaint dining, and quirky shops, you'll be amused for hours at the wonderful assortment of things to browse. After a quick stop at Ullman's and Crown Jeweler's (two of my favorite "stop-in-before-the-holidays-with-the-husband" stores), we were trying to decide on a place to eat. Something quick, tasty, and no-nonsense was in order. Today led us to a great little restaurant owned by a young chef raised and bred in F'burg, Daniel Battista. The

fredericksburg area information: The University of Mary Washington - 09/19/07 08:40 AM
One of the reasons I was compelled to move to the Fredericksburg area of Stafford was its close proximity to the historic city of Old Town Fredericksburg. The museums, antiques, abundant little shops, cobblestoned sidewalks, and incredible charm were enough to win me over. But there was another reason...the University of Mary Washington - or as it was formerly known prior to July 2004, Mary Washington College. Having come from the college town of Towson, Maryland - home of the Towson Tigers - I had found a sense of comfort coming to this area over 20 years ago. The large oak trees,

fredericksburg area information: Summer Lovin' at Carl's! - 08/11/07 10:22 AM
By Irene Morales Ward 8/11/2007 Having lived in the Fredericksburg area for nearly 20 years doesn't exactly make me an expert in Civil War history. However, I do think it makes me something of an expert in another field - area food! Initially I didn't understand the hype and hysteria. It was February when I first moved to South Stafford and the idea of an ice cream cone was not exactly top on my list of things to indulge in. But it didn't take long for me to hear whispers from neighbors...its almost Valentine's Day! Carl's will be opening. When I had the nerve to

fredericksburg area information: Stafford Teen Honors Our Fallen Soldiers - 08/02/07 12:27 AM
By Irene Morales Ward, Northern Virginia Real Estate August 1, 2007 For Jonathan Sharp, a 17 year old rising senior at Stafford Senior High School, planting 20 trees and a number of flower beds into rock hard soil was a labor of love. The Fredericksburg Veterans of Foreign Wars was a busy place last Saturday! As a part of his Eagle Scout project, Jon decided to pay tribute to those from our area who have lost their lives fighting to protect us from terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan. The War on Terror memorial became a reality on Saturday afternoon under a scorching sun with the
