If you don’t know – there was a major oil spill from the Deep Water Horizon drilling rig on April 20. It is in the Gulf of Mexico and all over the news. The oil is headed for Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and maybe Northwest Florida. It might eventually hit the Florida Keys and perhaps move up the East Coast. Precautions are being taken, British Petroleum (BP), the government, fishermen and citizen volunteers are trying to stop all the leaks and remove the oil. That’s not why I am writing. You can read that information all over the news.

Yesterday I went for my morning walk, on a route not travelled for two years in my neighborhood of Crystal Beach in Destin Florida. As I approached the end of a side street, low and behold- that HOUSE was still for sale!! No way! I did a double take, saw there was yet another real estate sign in the yard. What was this- the fourth Realtor? When I went home, out of curiosity, I checked the listing history of the house. It has been for sale since 2005. That’s right- over four years.

I am president of my commercial condo association in Destin Florida. My real estate office, Rulnick Realty, is in a strip mall with a variety of businesses- restaurants, jewelers, bank, boutique, flooring and more. A few days ago I got a call slip with a message from our association manager:
“Our plaza has won the lotto! Check for $30,000 received in the mail”.
What!? Huh?!! I scrambled for the phone to find out what was going on. The association manager says there was a short note from an attorney that stated, “Partial settlement from EMINENT DOMAIN lawsuit” and a check for $30,000.

The Florida Association of Realtors uses two different versions of the purchase and sale agreement. One is called " FAR (Florida Association of Realtors)" the other " FAR BAR" (Florida Bar Association). In different parts of the state, real estate agent communities have their own customs as to which version they use. In my Destin FL area, for example, the FAR contract is more common.
