Here's another tidbit of Jackson real estate history. This building is located on the corner of Willow and East Hansen in east Jackson, but it started life as a schoolhouse on West Broadway where New York Subs (another Jackson Hole favorite!) is now located. After the schoolhouse was moved, the building was home to Wind River Herb Factory, and then was the home to The Yoga Room, operated by Margot Snowden. If you own property in Wyoming, you should have received your property tax assessment recently. All property is valued by the assessor as of January 1 of each year, and the assessment is mailed to the property owners in March and April. If you disagree with the assessor's opinion of value, you have 30 days from the date of the postmark on the assessment to file a written statement with the County Assessor specifying the reasons you feel the property is incorrectly valued. Here's an overview of how house, condominium, and vacant lots sales have trended in Jackson Hole, WY for the past ten years. We had a peak in the market in terms of the number of sales in 2005, and the market fell off a cliff in 2008. In another blog, I'll present the total dollar volume of these sales. So far, 2009 has remained very slow, with only a handful of closings. Wyoming has a well deserved reputation for low taxes, having no state personal or corporate income tax, and having a very low property tax rate. Here's how to calculate property taxes in Jackson Hole (Teton county, Wyoming). Property taxes are calculated by multiplying the mill levy by the assessed value, and the assesed value is equal to the market value times 9.5%. One of the largest and oldest real estate companies in Jackson Hole closed their doors today. The 89 agents and several staff members with Real Estate of Jackson Hole became homeless today, as a dramatic slowdown in residential sales over the past year rendered the company unable to meet their overhead requirements. Many of these agents will likely exit the business, while others will be absorbed into other firms, and a few will open new smaller brokerages.
