And that's how the fight started!

One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift.

The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.

When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"

And that's how the fight started...

************************************************************
My wife walked into the den & asked, "What's on the TV?"

I replied, "Dust"..

And that's how the fight started...

************************************************************

A woman is standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror. She is not happy with what she sees and says to her
husband, "I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a compliment."

The husband replies, "Your eyesight's darn near perfect."

And that's how the fight started...

************************************************************

My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary. She said, "I want something shiny
that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3 seconds."

I bought her a scale.

And that's how the fight started....

************************************************************

I asked my wife, "Where do you want to go for our anniversary?"

It warmed my heart to see her face melt in sweet appreciation.

"Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said.

So I suggested, "How about the kitchen?"

And that's when the fight started...

************************************************************

My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, "Do
you want to have sex?"

"No," she answered.

I then said, "Is that your final answer?"

She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying "Yes.."

So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."

And that's when the fight started...

************************************************************

When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive.

So, I took her to a gas station.

And that's when the fight started...

************************************************************

I tried to talk my wife into buying a case of Miller Light for $14.95. Instead, she bought a jar of cold cream for $7.95.

I told her the beer would make her look better at night than the cold cream.

And that's when the fight started...

************************************************************

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asked, "Do you know her?"

"Yes," I sighed, "She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since."

"My God!" says my wife. "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?"

And that's when the fight started....

**************************************************************

I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car.

You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed, and little things just seem funny?

Yeah, well, I couldn't believe it. He was a DWARF!!!

He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, "I AM NOT HAPPY!!!"

So, I looked down at him and said, "Well, then which one are you?"

And that's when the fight started...

************************************************************

I took my wife to a restaurant.. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please."

He said , "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?"

"Nah, she can order for herself."

And that's when the fight started...

Edward Moore Kennedy May you find peace at last.

I had the privilege of meeting "Ted" on more than one occaison. The first was when he spoke at my high school graduation more than 3 decades ago. At the time he was involved in a bitter dispute with his constituents over desegregation and the issue of forced busing. Most of his constituentcy was opposed but "Ted" knew that the moral road demanded an end to the absurd idea that segregation was good for Boston. I can still hear the groans from the audience when he referred to my school (Boston College High) as "South Boston High". I though there would be a revolt right then and there.

Ted would be the first to admit that he made many mistakes in life, who among us hasn't. I think that anyone who has had to live with the tradgedy that he has propably would have succumbed long ago. As the youngest of nine children he learned his place early on. He suffered as his oldest sister Rosemary was institutionalized after a failed attempt by their father tried to help her by having a lobotomy performed. He suffered the loss of his oldest brother Joseph who died when his plane blew up on a suicide mission during World War II. We all know he lost his brothers John and Robert to assination. He also lost his sister Kathleen in a plane crash. He himself broke three vertebrae in his back in a plane crash. He became a father to all his siblings children as well as his own. He suffered through his first wife's alcholism. He perserved and became the spokesmen for not only his large family but for all of us who suffered.

He was present at every single burial for every Massachusetts veteran who died during the Iraq war. After the service of those who were buried at Arlington he would stop by his brothers graves. I can't imagine the hurt he felt.

There could be no better memorial to "Ted" than to pass universal healthcare for all is his honor. After all he served 46+ years in the US Senate trying to get this accomplished. Not because he wanted it but because he saw the need of so many of us who need it.

Thank you "teddy" from all of us.

Seems like just yesterday that the party of No was touting these folks as just what America needs.

No wonder people are actually electing the Al Frankens of the world. Seems we need a little comedy if this is the best that the Republican party can tout.

Chinese Drywall rotting homes from the inside?

According to several reports, most recently CNN, Chinese drywall has been emitting a corrosive gas that is threatening homes built over the past 5 years that have used this product.

Knauf Plasterboard Tianjian and L&W Supply Corp. are two companies being investigated for selling drywall containing strontium sulfide, a substance that is known to produce the odor of rotten eggs and could damage copper wiring and other components.

The number of U.S. homes that have Chinese-made drywall is staggering. A recent study estimates that the product was used in up to 50,000 homes across 40 states, including Florida, California, Arizona, Alabama, Nevada and Louisiana. Who knows how many more homes may be in danger from using this product in renovations.

First is was a food scare, then a milk scare now a drywall scare. The Chinese Nationals are loaning us billions of dollars so that we can buy thier goods so that they can destroy us. As if we didn'y already have enough on our plate to fix. Remind me, just who is looking out for the American consumer? Not the FDA nor anyone else.

Does anyone know of a reputable breeder of Shih Tzu pups?

My wife and I have been having a hard time dealing with the loss of our most recent baby who passed away at the end of December. We had a lovely Shih Tzu before him as well and are feeling like we probably will want to adopt another in the coming months.

I do not want to get one from a puppy mill or from a shopping mall pet store.

Any advise you could offer us would be most appreciated!

When should a community consider a name change?

I am an admitted history loving person. I do not profess to know it as well as I should however.

I have had the priveledge of being born and having lived in Quincy Massachusetts for almost all of my life. We have a wonderful history to be proud of.

My thought for today is how we managed to name the various sections of our city. Some like compass points ( i.e. North or West Quincy) lack a certain amount of imagination to say the least. Merrymount for instance captures the image of its not so puritan past as the spot where a Maypole was raised and certain rights of spring were practiced. This is a story for another day though.

Today I question the naming of the Germantown section. This pennisular was originally named Shed's Neck after settler Daniel Shed of England settled it around 1643. This would appear to be an appropriate name. In fact it lasted until Joseph Palmer and Richard Cranch came up with the idea of a planned manufacturing town in the 1750's. Germantown was born when they started this endeavor by installing a glass factory with imported German Labor. The glass made there was of such an inferior product that the factory was gone by 1760. Certainly we can come up with a better name than one which remembers a failed attempt at P.U.D (planned Urban Development).

The area was later a major shipbuilding area. Two other names this spot held were Gull Point and Sailor's Snug Harbor. Both superior names in my humble opinion.

Maybe we could get the local politicians to change the name to reflect some better aspects of this historicaly proud residential neighborhood. Please let me know what you think. Also if you have any ideas or knowledge of how to start the process.

The Irish in America give thanks today.

"Ireland, thou friend of my country in my country's most friendless days, much injured, much enduring land, accept this poor tribute from one who esteems thy worth, and mourns thy desolation."
- George Washington, speaking of Ireland's support for America during the revolution.

There are approximately 20 million Americans who claim some Irish ancestry today, there are only 4 million Irish in Ireland. We who are the descendants of those who left Ireland either before or after the great famine are thankful this country took us in and gave us a chance at a better life. It was not easy in the beginning. Signs like "Irish need not apply" and worse met many. Prejudice was common. Insults were more common.

"When anyone asks me about the Irish character, I say look at the trees. Maimed, stark and misshapen, but ferociously tenacious."
- Edna O'Brien

So this St Patrick's day, we are thankful that we were given a chance. That we repaid that debt by building railroads and fighting in wars. We are thankful that the fighting is mostly over and that the prejuduce is mostly forgotten.

Bear Market Rally or return of the running Bulls?

As I write this post I am listening to the talking heads at CNBC and wondering if anyone there really has any clue about what is going on. Personally I am hoping for the start of a Bull Market but I am old enough to know that just bringing back the "uptick rule" won't determine the answer.

If indeed this turns out to be the starting point for a Bull run then I guess we could conclude that the financial course we are on is starting to produce fruit. What do you think? Are you bullish or bearish?

Cost of the Iraq war measured in dollars almost equal to the cost of the last stimulus package.

According to the National Priorities project the cost of the Iraq war is now approaching $621 billion dollars. This of course does not count the loss of human life and suffering.

To think this cost was never even accounted for under any of the Bush budgets is astounding. Now that we have a President who is trying to balance a budget while including the cost of this ill concieved war people are focusing on where are governement dollars are going? What were these people focusing on before?

I wonder, does anyone still remember we are supposedly looking for Osama Bin Laden still?

Let's first fix the budget, the economy will follow and then let's get out of Iraq, stabilize Afghanistan and find Osama. He'll be the tall Saudi Arabian laughing so hard he peed himself.

My humble attempt at a positive change in our healthcare system.

After spending some 15 years working in healthcare administration before embarking on my real estate career I had the pleasure of seeing many good and bad policies. Not all healthcare is bad as some would have you believe.

The first item that needs to be addressed is the decline in the number of good physicians entering the field. This trend started some 30 years ago when our best and brightest thought they would become Wall St tycoons or Lawyers instead of doctors because that was where the money was to be made. The rising cost of malpractice insurance coupled with the cost of medical school scared many away. Now we have a shortage that effects all of us.

My solution is to subsidize the cost of medical school to those promising students in exchange for a gaureenteed stay in the field for a specified length of time, similar to the approach used by the military to get and train good pilots. Then we need to pass legislation limiting the amount of jury awards to those who suffer from a loss due to malpractice. I know first hand the actual reserves that have to be carried by most hospitals on their books is astronomically high. If Wall street brokers were forced to carry similar insurance then we probably wouldn't have had our current financial meltdown.

The next step should be to limit totally unecessary and expensive tests and treatments. We should not all feel entitled to these tests just because we want them. We should also realize that the answer to all problems does not come in pill form and that not all big pharma costs are not validated. For instance we are bombarded with television and print ads (which cost huge sums of money) for various presciption drugs that we "should ask our docter about" Really now, how many of us are really smarter than our doctor?

After being away from the rain for awhile, I see that after reading a few posts

that this country is still as divided as ever. It is no wonder why we are in the financial mess that we are when people won't even compromise one inch on their ideaologies. If ever in my lifetime there was a time to pitch in and just get the job done it is now.

When Ronald Reagan was President, the "Me Generation" was set on a course to ruin this country. The Forbes magazine list of the 400 richest people became more important than America's 500 largest companies. Binge buying and credit purchases became the mantra of "Shop until you drop" Our national debt more than doubled in just a scant three years.

We have now managed to have our debt soar under President Bush by some 5.7 trillion dollars which by the way was more money than all previous presidents combined.

President Obama has now also increased our debt. He is at least trying to reduce it over the next four years. Mind you, he has only been in office for little over one month.

If you were a part of the "me generation' you are part of the problem. If you lived within your means and saved for a rainy day and ignored the pervailing selfishness of those times then you should be proud of what you once did. Now is the time to be proud again and put an end to the petty nonsense and bickering that is so prevalent and pitch in with whatever you have to help solve this mess or we won't have a divided country much longer. We simply won't be one country any longer.

Abraham Lincoln, ( much in vogue today) once said that "a house divided can not stand" It was true then and is true today.

So quit your whining and do your part to help your fellow man. Sometimes the medicine is worse than the disease.

If Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican party then we must be entering a time of a one party system.

Sarah "it took 5 schools and 6 years to get a journalism degree" Palin is the hope of the party?

Take a look at her SAT scores

Take a look at how she handled real journalism majors along the campaign trail! She must be an even better actress than Marilyn Monroe at playing a bimbo because I have not seen one iota of evidence to suggest that she is remotely ready for the national stage.

Frankly she couldn't even impress the McCain aides that spent all their time prepping her instead of focusing on getting their man John McCain elected. She even got punked into believing she had a call from the French President.

I wonder what people see in her that I don't. Then again P.T. Barnum made a lot of money by acknowledging that there is a sucker born every minute!

We should not trivialise this day. Too many have given too much and we should never forget that.

My thoughts and prayers go out today to all those men and women who have given their all to make this country what it is today. Their lives and those of their families have shown great courage and determination in serving their homeland.

Many have given their full measure and it was not in vain. Someday I hope that wars will cease to exist, that we can all find common ground to stand upon. I know that this is probably naive but I shall never give up this hope!

My ancestor's have fought for this country since the civil war. Pictured here is Colonel Patrick Robert Guiney of the Massachusetts fighting ninth. A distant relative who served with distinction and valor.

My own Father served as an Army Staff Sgt in World War ll along with two of his brothers, one in the Air Force and one in the Navy. My Dad like most of his generation did not often speak of war and never of his own exploits. I know he landed at Normandy on D+2 and that he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. I know he was lucky enough to come home relatively unscathed. I know many of his friends were not so lucky.

My father (the one on the left) taught me many things before he passed. He taught me right from wrong, he taught me that Death is the great equalizer and he taught me to never judge another man until I've walked in his shoes awhile.

I hope to take some time today to travel to the Massachusetts National Cemetary in Bourne where he lies along with my mother and a few Uncles who served along with their wives. I hope he knows that my sisters and I miss him and that on this day in particular we will think of him often and we will be thankful for the job that he was called upon to do.

Faking attacks, hanging someone in effigy, death threats, when will we stop giving fanatics their 15 minutes of undeserved fame?

Is this what George W. Bush (the uniter not divider) imagined when he authorized the Karl Rove swift boat tactics and smear campaigns? Both political parties have their fair share of wacked out fanatics, however they both need to put a clamp down on this nonsense. When white supremists are vowing to kill a Preseidential Candidate it has gone way to far. These far right and left radicals need to be told in no uncertain terms that this behavior is not to be tolerated by the American people.

Everyone on both sides seems to be frustrated with the tone of this years campaigns. We are also fed up with corrupt Washington politicians. We all probably agree that those responsible for our current economic crisis need to be held accountable.

Hopefully we can also agree that the people responsible for this kind of crap need to not be placed in the media spotlight as that is all they want anyway.

First Obama and his supporters were elitest now they are LIV's?

Will the hypocrisy from the right never end this election season? With ten days left the name calling has escalated to beyond belief.

The polls show that most Americans (not just Palin's real Americans) are sick and tired of the past eight years of corruption, division and criminal activities of the republican administration.

LiV which is an acronym for low intelligent voter which is how they choose to attack today. What will tomorrow bring? Scare tactics have been an art form since Karl Rove made a name for himself. Weapons of mass destruction, economic ruin, socialism, and any other nonsense they can think of to maintain some control on their power.

I've even heard some of them talk about buying an island and seceding like Todd Palin wanted to do. Now that sounds like a real American thing to do right?

So you tell me, are Obama supporters elitist or are they of low intelligence? You can't have it both ways.

Diva Palin going rogue on McCain campaign advisors?

Sarah Palin is apparently going out on her own after complaining of the mishandling of her and her image by the McCain campaigns advisors. Well, I will say this about her, she has no problems with self esteem. She actually thinks she knows more than her running mate.

Here I was worried about what would happen if Dubbya went down for the count and we had to put up with Dick Cheney. Palin would make Cheney look sane.

McCain sources say Palin has gone off-message several times, and they privately wonder whether the incidents were deliberate. They cited an instance in which she labeled robocalls -- recorded messages often used to attack a candidate's opponent -- "irritating" even as the campaign defended their use. Also, they pointed to her telling reporters she disagreed with the campaign's decision to pull out of Michigan.

"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.

"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

Tracey Schmitt, Palin's press secretary, was urgently called over after Palin wandered over to the press and started talking. Schmitt tried several times to end the unscheduled session.

"We acknowledge that perhaps she should have been out there doing more," a different Palin adviser recently said, arguing that "it's not fair to judge her off one or two sound bites" from the network interviews.

The Politico reported Saturday on Palin's frustration, specifically with McCain advisers Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt. They helped decide to limit Palin's initial press contact to high-profile interviews with Charlie Gibson of ABC and Katie Couric of CBS, which all McCain sources admit were highly damaging.

In response, Wallace e-mailed CNN the same quote she gave the Politico: "If people want to throw me under the bus, my personal belief is that the most honorable thing to do is to lie there."

But two sources, one Palin associate and one McCain adviser, defended the decision to keep her press interaction limited after she was picked, both saying flatly that she was not ready and that the missteps could have been a lot worse.

They insisted that she needed time to be briefed on national and international issues and on McCain's record.

"Her lack of fundamental understanding of some key issues was dramatic," said another McCain source with direct knowledge of the process to prepare Palin after she was picked. The source said it was probably the "hardest" to get her "up to speed than any candidate in history."

Voting is a lot like trying to decide which house to buy. It is often an emotional choice

You know the story about the head and the heart. Sometimes you can't please both. As I was working on my clients late last night to help them decide on which property best suited their needs it all started to become clear.

One could choose to vote for the old fixer upper. After all it does have some charm. It was well built but has had some deterioration over the years. It's a bit cranky now but still has some good views. Maybe the electrical system needs updating. The plumbing runs a liitle weak. The roof has a few missing shingles. You can tell that the bones were strong, but it might be a money pit. It added a new addition but it doesn't fit in well.

Or one could choose to vote for the newer home. Its electrical system works fine. Its green(earth friendly) and it offers the best of what's available today. Sure it might cost a little more but its views are terrific. The plumbing doesn't leak and has good flow. The roof is well coiffed and it stands straight and tall. It has a solid foundation and there are no surprises. It's thoughtfully laid out. Which one will you choose?

Political Barbie not as popular as McCain thought.

Seems that John McCain thought he hired the most popular Governor of any state to be his running mate when he announced Sarah Palin as his choice for V.P. It seems like the honeymoon is over for Sarah Palin. New polls suggest a key group of voters is starting to sour on John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin and that's potentially bad news for the ticket.

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll suggests worry about Palin's experience is really dragging McCain down.

Out of more than 2,400 people between the ages of 18 and 24 who were surveyed over the course of four weeks in September and this month, 40 percent said the Palin pick made them less likely to support the Republican ticket, the poll showed.

Twenty-five percent of respondents said they were more likely to vote for 72-year-old McCain because of his choice of running mate and 35 percent said the pick made no difference.

"Twenty-five percent more likely, 40 less likely -- that's a net negative-15," Della Volpe said.

The Palin pick had a similar, minus-15 percent turn-off effect on young women voters, the poll showed.

It is very expensive to own a Pit Bull today.

My apologies to Stewart for borrowing his Pit bull photo!

Besides the obvious cost of lipstick (which Rudy Guiliani tells me cost $16.00/tube) there are so many other costs like boarding especially if you bring along the pups. For instance Alaskans paid $21,012 dollars for their Pit Bull to take her three pups along for 64 one way flights and 12 commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. Now Alasks does not specifically address expenses for a Governor's children, but allowsfor payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business. Alaskan State Finance Director Kim Garnero has told the associated press she has not reviewed Palin's expense forms so she can't tell if Palin's 7 year old daughter or 14 or 17 year old sibblings conducted any business for the state. What we do know is that after McCain picked her for a running mate and reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to the previously filed expenditure reports . In the amended report, Palin added phrases such as "First Family attending" and "First Family invited" to explain the pups attendance. Too bad that the organizers of these events said they were surprised that pups showed up uninvited.

Then we have the added cost for clothing. The Republican National Committee has spent $150,000 on new clothes for Sarah so that she would be dressed appropriately for her public appearances. Among other purchases, the party spent $75,062.63 in a single trip to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis and $49,425.74 in Saks Fifth Avenue in St Louis, Missouri and New York City. A bill totalling $9,447.71 was paid at Macy's in Minneapolis, which played host to the Republican National Convention last month. Back in New York City, Bloomingdale's was paid $5,102.71 for more clothes and accessories, while $789.72 was spent at Barney's in the same city. The party also spent $4,716.49 on Mrs Palin's hair and makeup during September, the records disclose, while $295 was spent at the exclusive babywear shop Steiniauf & Stroller - suggesting Mrs Palin's youngest child, Trig, has also enjoyed a new wardobe. Meanwhile, $4,902.45 was spent at Atelier, a top store for men - perhaps to allow Todd Palin, the Governor's husband, to be kitted out with new outfits.

Let's also not forget the per diem money or the Oil industries kickback to all Alaskans. I never knew Pit Bulls could be so expensive!

Rush Limbaugh cries racism. Why is this idiot not in jail?

Limbaugh is quoted saying, "Mexicans are stupid and unqualified" and "Shut your mouth or get out."

Wow another stunning example of republican rhetoric that I am sure will help us reach across the isle to our fellow men.

"Obama is now stoking racism in the country," Limbaugh said. "Obama is a disgrace - he wants the public to think he is Mr. Nice Guy while his thugs are in Alaska looking for dirt on Palin and he runs race-baiting ads and lies about what he has done and what McCain has done.

Or how about this doosey Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) success so far is because people "can't criticize the little black man-child:"

Limbaugh has made racist attacks on Obama his forte. In March, he declared Obama had "disowned his white half" and "decided he's got to go all in on the black side." Last year, he called Obama "Barack the Magic Negro."

This pompous ass drug abuser should shut up and be thankful that can make a ridiculous sum of money for telling lies to whoever is stupid enough to subscribe to his bull sh**. Can you imagine the inauguration party that Rush and Cindy McCain might throw? Drugs for everybody!
