What can you do with a 5.00 bar of steel? - 09/28/10 05:21 AM
That's right you did not read anything into this at all.  What can you do with a 5.00 that's (five) dollar worth of steel?  You could use it as a paperweight and the profit you would make is 0.00 or you could use it to throw and the profit would still be 0.00  Well let's see if you made horseshoes out of it you could double your money.  How about needles now it would be worth 350.00 and one more how about springs or wheels for a fine watches now you're talking 250,000.00.  So now I ask you what can you … (1 comments)

It’s not a matter of luck it’s a matter of hard work... - 09/27/10 05:50 AM
I know there are those of you out there who think some of the top producers are just lucky.  I know I did for the longest time.  Now that I'm in the real estate business I know it's not luck (there are exceptions) but its hard work.  Its 08:55 PM and I should be getting ready for bed but no I'm writing a post and thinking about what I'm going to do tomorrow to get more clients are you?  It's a great day to buy or sell a home

Motivation is where you find it… - 09/26/10 06:38 AM

So tell me what motivates you.  Is it the green stuff?  What about providing for your family is that your motivation.  The point is find out what motivates you and use it to grow your business.  Who knows during the phase of finding out what motivates you; you may find there are more things than one.  Use those motivations to do one more call, one more door knock, and one more cold call.   Remember for each no you're one more closer to a yes.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

“Victory has a thousand fathers; defeat is an orphan.” Confucius - 09/25/10 06:14 AM
Don't you love it when a plan comes together?  You go out and get a listing, put it on the market and in a day or two you get an offer or even better you get the buyer to boot.  Oh! the dreams we dream.  It does happen sometimes but in the real world you need to caution your sellers it may take some time for this to happen.  If so you are a hero if not your defiled and treated as a no good agent.  Victory is sweet but defeat is sour.  Price the property correctly and you're a hero … (5 comments)

What do you think about “septenary”? - 09/24/10 06:43 AM
Some people think this is lucky.  Others avoid it like the plague.  As for myself I make no comment either positive or negative.  I have nothing against it but I also have nothing for it.  You find it at casinos all the time.  You may be wondering what septenary means well ok I'll tell you it means: of the number seven.  At slot machines the number seven means you're a winner.  Seven or no seven you're a winner in my eyes for staying in this business.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

I like to be “jocose” a lot… - 09/22/10 06:39 AM
I think I'm this but my wife doesn't think so.  For the most part I view life this way.  Don't get me wrong I have had those moments when it was not jocose.  I do put on a false front because inside I'm doing this all the time.  The meaning of jocose: joking or playful; humorous.  Wake up with a smile and the day won't go wrong.  Smile with someone that's having a bad day and make their day jocose.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home

I’m “tetched” are you? - 09/20/10 05:58 AM
Man oh man do I like this word.  For those of you who chose the military, law enforcement or the fire department for a career I know you have this phenomenon.  Is it only for those professions of course not but it helps.   The meaning of (techt): touched; slightly demented: also used humorously.  After seeing all the things you come into contact with on a daily basis as I have you develop this sense of humor to keep sane.  When things go downhill as they often do in real estate it might help you if you developed a demented sense of … (6 comments)

I will not accept defeat. - 09/19/10 06:50 AM

Don’t retreat reload…?  - 09/18/10 06:16 AM
Let's face it I like talk radio.  I'm a fan of Glenn and Rush not too happy about Hannity but we all have our limits.  Anyway I was listening to one of my radio stations and they were commenting on a speech that Sarah Palin gave in Tulsa at a rally.  If you haven't guessed it already one of the stations I listen to is Tulsa the other one is Fayetteville, AR.  One of the statements she made was where she came from you don't retreat you reload.  Man oh man it hit home.  I know she was talking politics and … (9 comments)

Don’t sell your clients a “hovel”. - 09/17/10 05:41 AM
May you never do this to any of your clients.  To knowingly do this would have your career in real estate come to an end.  You caution your client not to do this but if they insist you can back out and have them get another agent or you can document everything and go ahead.  The meaning of (huv' el): any small, miserable dwelling.  Don't sell your client just anything to get the sell. Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

Don’t leave a “galbanum” taste in your client’s mouth. - 09/16/10 06:10 AM
I've done this before and it's not a pleasant task.  This is never a joyous thing but it's part of the job and happens frequently.  The question is how many times must you do this?  The answer is more times than you want.  The meaning of galbanum: a bitter, bad smelling Asiatic gum resin, obtained from various plants.  I know we all try and not leave that bitter taste in our client's mouth but sometimes you have no choice.  Strive to conquer and bring some mouthwash with you...  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a … (8 comments)

If you do this to each of your clients be they sellers or buyers you'll do well.  I've tried this and most of the time it works but sometimes it doesn't, when it does happen the real estate transaction goes smother and with less headaches.  The meaning of fictile: that can be molded.  Mold your clients into the real estate transaction.  Go over each and every contract so there is no question the client knows what to expect and what not to expect.  No surprises and a happy client is your goal. Don’t “cachinnate” in a crowd. - 09/14/10 06:23 AM
I just hate this when it happens.  I go out to eat with my lovely bride of 42 years and most of the time this doesn't happen.  When it does for me anyway it spoils the whole evening.  I know none of my fellow agents do this but for those of you who do please consider the other people around you.  The meaning of cachinnate: to laugh loudly or too much.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

Don’t “dally” when a client calls... - 09/13/10 05:01 AM
I'm sure most of you know the meaning of dally or do you?  There are several meanings of dally and the one I'm concentrating on is (to waste time: loiter).  If you waste time and do not respond to your clients you'll lose them.   I have a new listing because the client said that the agent did not return any or her calls and very few of her emails.  It's your business and your call.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

“Usufruct” is a new one on me what about you? - 09/10/10 07:05 AM
When I was looking today for a word to write on I came across this one.  I did not recognize it so I got out the old trusty real estate guide when I was in pre-license class.  Nope not in there either.  That struck me that each and every day I learn something new about real estate which is a good thing.  The meaning of usufruct: the right of suing and enjoying all the advantages and profits of the property of another without altering or damaging the substance.  And to think you only thought you knew everything about real estate.  Welcome … (11 comments)

Worrying about it won’t make it go away. - 09/08/10 09:28 PM
There was this agent in an office I had worked in that worried about every detail.  While it is a good thing to make sure all the bases are covered she carried it to the extreme.  I'm not joking when I say she would go from one agent to another showing them the contract and getting their input about it.  Do you worry too much about the small things?  It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

I have and somewhere along the line I bet you have to.  I done things I haven't been proud of and it came around to bite me.  I don't as a practice just try and do something I really don't want to do.  Sadly to say at the time it seems perfectly logical to me.  Anyway the meaning of comeuppance:  deserved punishment; retribution.  Have you done anything you're going to admit that has in one way or the other came back on you?  Join wordsmith on Activerain.   It's a great day to buy or sell a home.

Take care of my business. - 09/06/10 06:48 AM

Do you make pie crust promises? - 09/02/10 06:04 AM
Are you one of those agents who will tell a client anything to get the listing?  Do you tell your buyers the moon is the limit and then don't deliver?  Do you make promises that you know deep down inside you, you can't make good?  If so than you are a pie crust agent.  Be as solid as the pan you place the pie crust in and follow through on your promises or don't make them.  Your business and reputation will suffer then you will proudly ask over the microphone "Would you like to biggie size that for twenty cents more"?  … (7 comments)

Do you use an “ulu” to cut away the fat? - 09/01/10 07:48 AM
I personally haven't seen one of these but I know they exist.  What do you use to cut away the fat?  The fat I'm talking about with this word is fat from any kind of meat be it beef, chicken, pork etc.  The meaning of ulu: a knife with a broad, almost semicircular blade.  The fat you need to concentrate on is the fat in your budget.  While I don't recommend the use of this type of knife literally to cut the fat from your budget consider what you need to do to accomplish cutting the fat.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  … (0 comments)
