Never play with your words. - 12/31/10 06:25 AM

I bet your wondering where is he going with this one.  Well as I plug along I myself also wonder.  Think about the heading and follow me while I try and get this one out.  When we start posts we have a thought in mind as to what we want to say and when we finish we review and reflect on what we have written.  Where a lot of people mess up is trying to rewrite the post and add some words they would normally not use.  To simplify things write the posts and other than misspelled words leave it … (8 comments)

Mercy or strict justice? - 12/30/10 08:11 PM

Has anyone ever did you wrong?  I know that’s a silly question if you’re alive you have been wronged.  When you were wronged did you ask for and get swift and strict justice or did you ask for mercy?  Turn it around and imagine it was you would you ask for strict and swift justice or mercy?  There are things that someone does to you which requires no explanation but for others think about it before you demand justice.  You a big person the decision is yours.

May you and yours enjoy a “salubrious” 2011 - 12/29/10 05:55 AM

I’m writing this a little early but it is what it is.  The New Year is approaching and I want to get this out before it gets here.  I have had the best year to date 2010 but it’s not going to be nothing compared to 2011.  OH! by the way the meaning of (se loo’ bre es) promoting health or welfare.  May 2011 be the best yet.

Have you ever had the feeling of “prescience”? - 12/28/10 06:28 AM

OK all you doubtful Thomas’s and I know you’re out there.  No disrespect to the name Thomas just a figure of speech.   Now back to the subject matter.  I have experienced this more than once and sometimes it brings chills up the old back (another figure of speech).  Anyway I would like to hear from those of you who have or have not had this experience.  The meaning of (presh’ ens)to know beforehand; an apparent knowledge of things before they happen.

Don’t keep your clients in the “privity”. - 12/27/10 06:06 AM
Ok you military guys and gals reread the heading and read each and every word.  Are you sure you read what you thought you read?  We as agents do not need to do this as it may and should cost us our license.  This is one thing you were taught in class and I know you hear it almost every week.  Some bonehead (agent) will do this and in so doing leaves a bad taste in the mouth and senses of the clients we serve.  The meaning of (priv' i te) a private or secret knowledge.  No secrets between agent and … (5 comments)

Be sure to give your clients a piece of “thenar”. - 12/26/10 06:50 AM
I do this without thinking and I bet you do to.  This is a form of finalization of getting a listing or contract.  It's often done by the female sitting, the male standing and you can use either the right or left hand but the right hand is usually used.  Now for the meaning of (the' nar) the palm of the hand.  I relate this to a handshake.  It's a lost art, what a shame.

You are in the "proletariat" class of people. - 12/25/10 02:13 PM
If you're reading this post you are in this class of people.  I will do this until the man above calls me to come home.   To be not in this class to me is not an option.  All people fall into this category no matter who you are.  The meaning of (pro'le ter'e et)the working class; industrial working class.  No one knows how much work goes into this business unless they are in it.  It's a shame other people can't see all the hard work that goes into this profession.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  Enjoy the day it may be your … (8 comments)

The Haircut - 12/24/10 06:29 AM
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut.  After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barberreplied, ' I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.        When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ' Thank you ' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.        Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill,  the barber again replied, ' I cannot … (18 comments)

This is one you got to see!! - 12/23/10 01:00 PM
For those of you who have children (teenagers) or older you just got to see this and forward it to all the people you know who have children.  This is very graphic and that's what they need to see.  May you have a Merry Christmas.  It was filmed in Australia but believe me it happens in the US once is to often.

Being “schlump” will not get that listing. - 12/23/10 06:30 AM
Ok I've been accused of this and sometimes it's true.  I know each and every one of you have done this before.  The question is how often does this happen.  For me it's about 1 time a month but I have been known to do this more often.  The meaning of (shlump) one who is sloppily or poorly dressed.  I have not been schlump at a listing have you?  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  Enjoy your day it may be your last.

Are you “raison d’etre” - 12/22/10 06:52 AM
I do believe I have you pegged on this one.  This is something you can't deny because sunshine when you discover the meaning of these two words you'll understand.  Now tell me before I give you the meaning of raison d'etre why are you here?  What do you hope to accomplish in your lifetime?  The meaning of (ra' son det') reason for being; justification for existence.  So now tell me your justification for existence.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  Enjoy the day it may be your last.

Meeting with the Principal Broker. - 12/21/10 06:53 AM
OK in my former profession if you had a meeting with the boss it was not going to be a good day for you.  You as an independent contractor have some advantages and disadvantages.  I don't need to go into what they are as you are already aware of what they are.  Anyway in my meeting with my partner we went over what we hoped to accomplish in 2011.  He brought to our attention one item we needed to do that we are not currently doing.  Goes to show you, you learn something new every day. Enjoy your day it may … (5 comments)

“Pavane” after a closing!!! - 12/21/10 06:30 AM
You know I am amazed each time I open my Webster's© and start reading.  The book never ceases to amaze and educate me.  As a result I try and educate other agents and the public as I post a new word.  So at the end of a closing "pavane" but not in front of your clients or other agents cause sunshine they will think you're crazy.  Sorry almost forgot the meaning of (pe van') to strut, walk like a peacock.  So strut your stuff and have a good time.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.  Enjoy the day it may be your last.

Are you a MIP or WIP? - 12/20/10 01:34 PM
Caught your attention didn't I.  Now speaking for me I can assure you I am not one of these but I know some who are.  You women need to define your own status.  I did mine long ago and so did my wife.  You may be asking yourself what in the world does MIP and WIP stand for.  Well Pilgrim MIP is men in panic and WIP is women in panic.  They have not bought anything for Christmas yet and they are in a panic to find that special something for that special person.  Enjoy your day it may be your … (3 comments)

Deliver the message!!! - 12/20/10 06:40 AM
The other day my partner and I submitted a bid on some property.  We received a counter offer with a note attached by the other agent.  To make a long story short the other agent told us how the sellers were upside down and how much money they were brining to the table.  Not to be rude but that is not my problem.  I relayed the pertinent data to my buyer and we let the counter expire.  I understand the seller's problem and again I'm not trying not to be caring but business is business.
On the good side my buyers … (10 comments)

May the “lemurs” stay away from your door? - 12/19/10 07:42 AM
Again this is one of those things I hope you never encounter.  While reading over my Webster's © I noticed this and thought most people if you read over it quick would associate with an animal.  Of course for those of you who read my posts know this would be too simple so now the meaning of (lem' yoo rez') evil, night walking spirits of the dead.  Enjoy your day it may be your last.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.

Have you known or know someone who is “icono-clast”? - 12/18/10 06:25 AM
Well I hate to admit it but yes I have known and still know these people.  Personally I think it's a blow to the American way of life.  But on the other hand if we did not have these types of people we would still be stuck in the 1600's and I for one would like to go back and see it but I would not want to live in that time.  Medical reasons you know at my age it would not be good.  Anyway the meaning of (I kan' e klast') one who attacks and seeks to destroy widely accepted … (4 comments)

“Ecumenism” the buyer and seller? - 12/17/10 06:35 AM
Are you going to do this?  Well I need an answer.  Accordingly I do this all the time.  Sometimes you do this with cooperation from another agent; other times you can do this on your own.  Do I have your attention?  Ok now for the meaning of (ek' yoo me nizem) the principles or practice of promoting cooperation among different religious faiths.  If someone can do this and goodness knows we need it then your job is to get the two parties to agree on the contracts.  Simple words but sometimes difficult to accomplish.  So now tell me are you a … (5 comments)

May “duplicity” stay away from your door. - 12/16/10 06:08 AM
Surely there have been some agents who have done this.  Gladly I can say I haven't known any and I keep my fingers crossed.  I can tell you one thing though if I do know one I'm not walking I'm running in the opposite direction.  The meaning of (doo plis' e te) hypocritical cunning or deception; double-dealing.  What I can't understand is why an agent would do this and place his career in jeopardy.  Join wordsmith on Activerain it's a hoot!!!

Turn the lights on!!! - 12/13/10 05:39 AM
While I was in law enforcement one of the exercises we went through was this.  The instructor told us there was a violent felon in the room and he (she) was armed.  It was our duty to enter the room and take the suspect into custody or use whatever force necessary to assure the arrest.  We entered the room and found it to be dark as dark can get.  As we were stumbling around shots rang out and most of us succumbed to our injuries as a result.  That's when the instructor flipped on the light switch which was located next … (10 comments)

It’s here if you look for it. - 12/12/10 06:51 AM
Ok I know it's the holidays but now when most agents are taking the holidays off my partner and I are working harder than ever so when the New Year starts we can have a good inventory of homes available.  To those agents who are saying they can't find any listings I say to you if you look for them you can find them.  You may need to change your tactics but they are out there.  For you sellers who happen to read this a lot of people are taking their homes off the market during the holidays.  I say to … (14 comments)

Have you known agents or clients that were “unco”? - 12/11/10 07:11 AM
Personally I've known both.  I'm not saying there are anymore out there but I'm sure there is.  The question you need to ask yourself is how many do you know.  Since I'm the only one in my family that has this abnormality I think (know) I'm just fine.   There are some of my AR friends that I'm happy to say has this disease.  By the way the meaning of (un' ko) Unknown; strange, a strange person or thing.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.

Don’t be “flaccid” around clients other agents or for that fact anyone. - 12/10/10 06:32 AM
I know I just know people are looking at this one and scratching their heads thinking is this what I think it is.  My smile is about as big as it gets as I'm writing this post.  I can see the thoughts racing through your minds.  As a part of my training from my previous job I can assure you I do not do this at all.  The meaning of (flak' sid) lacking force; weak; feeble.  Don't seem weak around your clients they will think you're the same way when trying to market their property or finding them a home.  Wordsmith … (9 comments)

Don’t “elision” your contracts. - 12/09/10 06:28 AM
My fellow post readers I can assure you I have (not that I recall) never been accused of this.  I seen some contracts that I would question not trying to say that an agent would but it takes all kinds.  I truly dislike trying to be politically correct but that's another post.  Anyway the meaning of (e lizh' en) any act or instance of leaving out or omitting a part or parts.  Don't leave out anything on your contracts it may make one wonder what else you're trying to leave out.  Join wordsmith on Activerain.

I've done this more times than I wish to count.  I've seen it done and sometimes just sometimes mind you I chuckle inside to think that someone would do this.  Since I retired I have backed off considerably from what I was at one time.  Anyway watch it the meaning of (e sur' bik) sharp, bitter or harsh in temper, language etc.  Once the words come out of your mouth it's hard and downright impossible to take them back.  Think before you speak.  Join wordsmith on Activerain

Booze and cigarettes can't live with and can't live without them - 12/06/10 06:29 AM
Now I don't know about you but back in the days when you had a drink you had a cigarette.  Many the times I did it.  Just think of all the money I could have saved and all the hangovers I could have avoided.  Now this is what happens when you consume a little too much.

“Debouch” you fellow agents. - 12/03/10 06:26 AM
I know I know we are independent contractors but hang on a minute.  Even as independent contractors we had to start somewhere.  Someone had to show us the ropes and take our hand for the first several months (in my case the first 18 months).  Afterwards I have helped several new agents and enjoy when someone asks me a question.  If I do not have a ready answer I research until I find one.  The meaning of (de boosh') to come forth; emerge.  Help the newbie's and maybe you will be amazed on what you know that you thought you didn't.  … (4 comments)

Everyone has a “pedant” what’s yours? - 12/01/10 07:30 AM
When I read the meaning of this word I started to make a list of the things I'm pedant about.  My hand cramped so I had to quit before I was done.  I have learned that when I practice this it keeps me out of trouble even though some people get irritated I will continue to do this so get over it.  The meaning of (ped' nt) a person who puts unnecessary stress on minor or trivial points of learning.  So tell me what's your pedant?  Join wordsmith on Activerain.
