Asheville "Scene " Around Town Photo Series - 02/28/09 07:52 PM
Rain was morphing to snow. The clouds were heavy over the mountains in Ashevile today. But, for just a few minutes, the sun carved a space in the sky and, for the first time in my life, I beheld a WINTER RAINBOW! How many of us have had such a moment, I wondered...I dashed inside for my camera and captured the moment to share with you...You may have to look twice to see it, but here is that WINTER RAINBOW..."Scene" around Asheville in February, 2009.

Asheville "Scene " Around Town Photo Series - 02/28/09 07:43 PM
Not long ago we had the opportunity to see something that amazed us. As we were searching for land for a client, we happened upon this water wheel. It was engineered and constructed by ONE person. That person--an 80-year old gentleman who also harnessed the cascading stream and provided power to his community. In difficult days, I remember what ONE person can do, and how ONE person still can contribute in a significant way to the well-being of others....so here is another photo "scene" around Asheville...it proves that amazing things happen here....

Asheville "GREEN" Real Estate and Relocation: MARKET OUTLOOK-It's GREEN (Part 4).Cloudy days in the real estate market? Not so for eco-friendly buyers in the Asheville, NC area. ...
"Sunny days" (see photo )are still to be had. And, as I  reviewed the happenings in the real estate market here in the Greater Asheville area, I recognized bright trends and forecasts.
Yes, to some extent, we have felt the effects of credit tightening and the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
But consider this:  Demand for green built homes has only increased. And, in Asheville, it seems to help drive our market in a healthy … (5 comments)

I love it when 1st Time Home Buyers, especially our eco-friendly clients in search of green-built homes and retrofits,  venture into the adventureof scouting out, investigating, and then bravely proceeding with their very first property purchase. HGTV has a show called Property Virgins that attempts to familiarize 1st Time Home Buyers with the process.

View from Our Back Door - 02/21/09 08:18 PM
It is really not that often that we get to have a visit from the bear cubs....( even though there were six (6) this year!.) ..But when they come to visit, we are ready with a camera, and quickly step inside. After all, the bears have been here for much longer than we have. In fact, our home was built not 100 yards from the bear path...  Here in Asheville, it is important to understand their habits and habitats...even our cat knows that! (see next post)

If you lived on the bear path, like this cat does, you would know to be respectful and not to leave delicious morsels (like pizza crusts) anywhere BEARS could find them...

HOPE FOR HOMEOWNERS PROGRAM - 2009 - 02/13/09 09:10 AM
The other day I had a conversation with a retired gentlelady. She is "no spring chick" by her own admission. She lives with her two German Shepherds and (at seventy-something) works part-time. It's a tough situation . As the snow falls, she fears she may be in jeopardy of losing her home.
I shared the following information with her. It contains a list of lenders participating in the HOPE FOR HOMEOWNERS PROGRAM.
May blessings fall upon you...and prosperity, even in difficult days
In doing research on this program I was given two important pieces of advice:
1. "When contacting any lender … (3 comments)

If you are a First Time Homebuyer think ahead! Make up your mind right now that  BEFORE you invest your hard-earned money in a home (and I mean even a new home) (and even a "green" home here in beautiful Asheville, N.C. ) you are going to insist on a home inspection.

Market reports for the communities you service may not be the most interesting or fun things to write. But there is some real value in doing so.

Busy Consumers Love Single Niche Property Sites - 02/11/09 07:43 AM

Via Mark Owens (Remax of Reading):
Single Niche Property Sites Prove That
 "Small is the New Big".
The clear message from online consumers is "show me what I want, when I want it, and with the least amount of clicks possible".      Real estate agents can capitalize on this online trend by shifting their web strategy from "all-inclusive" property sites to Single Niche Property Sites.
By far, the most common and costly mistake agents make is trying to be all things to all consumers. Agents promote their website as the portal that features EVERY LISTING ON EARTH.  Unfortunately, build this type of … (1 comments)

Consumer Centric Website - 02/10/09 10:20 PM

Via Greg Carlson (Five Star Real Estate):
Here's what I think:   What is a Consumer Centric Web and how is it different?  I believe it is all about what they want, not the morsels that our industry parcels out!  Today, it is not a question of will they obtain all of the information they want (for free and 24/7 more or less) without calling a Realtor.  It is a question of where will they link, or click, to get it!  Does it benefit us, as an industry, to build walls around the information we currently possess?  I don't think so.  Do we … (0 comments)

30 years ago I remember a very seasoned agent, ( 20 yr in the business) yelling at me for writing an ad on my first listing that stated that the home was located across the street from a prominent grade school.  Her statement to me was: "If they know where it is and they don't like the area, they won't call you!  You're not supposed to sell THAT house. SUN OVER THE MOUNTAINS on the dawn of a new day . Here in Asheville, a sunrise really can take your breath away. Do you suppose that a picture can take you to places that no amount of explaining can?
I think so. That is why I am starting the SOLAR ENERGY SERIES that follows with a set of three photos I took here in the mountains and coves of our area.  They remind me of the power and splendor of the Sun. 5 Steps Buyers Can Take to Learn More about a Home's Solar Capabilities: Solar Energy Series (3) - 02/07/09 03:12 PM
As real estate clients become more and more interested in energy and cost savings, before investing in a residential property or building on eco-friendly land, many buyers want to know more about  solar capabilities.  So I put together this list  of 5 Steps Buyers Can Take to Learn More about a home's  Solar Capabilities.
There's much to learn and consider, including, for example, the differences between passive and solar building features and the costs involved. (Unlike passive solar systems, active solar systems, use mechanical devices such as fans and pumps to distribute solar heat or cooling effect from a collector.)
